Yeah if you take really good character creators from other games, both recent and older, the one here really doesn't rate at all. The end result you can get looks nice because it's a nice looking game, but they way they let you pick the options is so poor it's hard to get the exact result you want out of it.
And getting the result you want is the most important part of a character creator.
If it was a matter of resources that the creator be a bit shit because work had to go elsewhere, then I'm (just) ok with it
The good news is that it can be reasonably fixed with just a bigger breadth of options, possibly from the DLCs, but yeah it's not going to rival a TES or Dark Souls creator (Or hell, Monster Hunter or Nioh 2)
This is CDPR. They could have put resources anywhere they wanted to for this game. My gut feeling for years now has been that they let scope creep get away from them and then didn't have time to finish nearly anything they wanted to cram into the game. Hence the crunch and delays, and then this buggy mess we have at release for them to continue working on.
I just realized what this game feels like to me... Buggier alpha protocol.
(I loved alpha protocol)
That might be why I'd prefer 3rd person gameplay here but the get better with guns by putting points in them felt like something I couldn't place last night
I'd also like a 3rd person option, just because it seems easier for me to process what's going on from that perspective, and boy, is there a lot to process in this game.
Last night I was wandering around outside Lizzie's bar waiting for them to open. Just kinda gawking at everything around me like a dumb tourist when I start wondering why the hell I'm starting to lose health.
Then I turn and see the divider between the street and the sidewalk is topped with waist-high barbed wire, and my dumbass is just sliding my arm along it like its a railing!

interestingly if u mess a bit with settings @ high using 1080p and 3950x and 2070super
indoor stable fps 70+ with raytracing on
indoor stable 110+ with raytracing off
surprisingly playable with raytracing given how badly control tanked on the same rig with the raytracing on
also what idiot thought a forced double tap input for the dodge was a good idea
1) its a dodge and i have to hit the button twice? literally the highest latency input in the whole game
2) imagine if i was wandering around and double tapped a direction while sneaking
incredibly silly that this one made it into live, give us a single button input for it and the ability to disable the double tap danke

Anyone playing this on base ps4? It seems like a dumpster fire that shouldn't have been released from what I've seen online, but I'm happy to be told otherwise.
I'm playing and yeah. Resolution is butts and a lot of pop-in, also constant frame rate dips.
It reminds me a lot of playing Morrowind on the original Xbox.
enable nvidia overlay in nvidia experience if you haven't, then press alt+z to open overlay, on the left side will be "filters". there will be 3 presets and an "off", select the empty first preset, add a filter type "sharpen". thats how it looks without messing with the settings
then you can enable / disable it at any time by selecting the "off" preset rather than preset 1 or whatever

just found it. holy shit, that does look A LOT better for just about zero performance impact. notice the character in the back and the lack of blurriness, also the aquarium

yeah it feels like the game is using some kind of bad forced anti-aliasing (i don't think its fxaa because forced fxaa would be insane but...)
i have no idea why it is so foggy - its foggy even if u disable all the variants of dynamic resolution / performance scaling and the post-processing options that should obviously affect it
just did a mission where I had to drag a knocked out surgeon from the bottom of the slums to the street and get him in a car. I figured out a way past all the enemies after a few tries just mercing them all, where Everytime they just shot the unconscious body and ended my contract. So I reloaded and toss the body over a fence, by standing on the fence and grabbing him while crouching. As I hustled up the last set of stairs I walked into a gang member and they gave chase. I got the guy into the car and hauled ass to drop him off. I got paid for the job... With a special electric damage katana called The Scalpel. It's less DPS than my current sword but... C'mon lightning sword?? Gotta use this
Also this hints at the fact that putting opposite gender genitalia/voice on otherwise very stereotypically gendered bodies was more intended as a transphobic jab / inspired by porn tropes than meant to open up the possibility of playing freely with your character's gender prez.
This has been today's edition of "Companies turning queerness into a fun novelty for the cishets". It's honestly.. idk. Makes me feel sick.
Combat has gotten much more entertaining since I gave up on guns and have focused on beating everyone to death with my sledgehammer. Especially coupled with the hack that decreases physical resistance for everyone connected to the network
I was going to hold off, but it got gifted to me and I streamed the first bits of it last night and it sure did lock me into scanner slow mo and break hilariously less than an hour into the game. Bodes well!
Game is real pretty, gonna have to mess with the graphics when I have time, but a 2070 Super and a 3900X with RTX turned off was running everything else at ~60 with the defaults all set to ultra, so should be fine.

For PC
I just put both options for Cascading Shadows to medium (With RTX on) and performance improved greatly.

new day same crashing at the exact same spot. guess it's shelf for you for the forseable future
i saw people reporting that if ur crashing at the corpo start sitdown thats common with older cpus that can in theory run the game but do not have avx capability (a more recent vector manipulation instruction set iirc)
My goodness this game. I was sitting on the edge of my seat during the AL sitdown, cut the tension with a thin wire. I chose:
to keep Parkers secret given the 2019 cinematic and what we know is coming; but replaying it perhaps things can work out differently - Dex seems pleased when you tell him the truth
. . .and the music that plays later. I legit don't think I've heard a repeated track during these missions. They need to release the soundtrack already.
If you have the GoG version the soundtrack can be found in extras @ED!

getting out of the car to meet vic for the first time as soon as i cross the street it freezes and crashes.

Was talking to a (main npc) in a diner and someone clipped through the wall, t-posed, from one end to the other while dude was talking about v serious things.
Anyone else having a bug with drop points? It seems that if I try to sell multiple items at once, it will take all of the items and only give me the money for the most expensive one. I just lost thousands of eddies this way, I'm pretty sure.
Like, it’s not bad, exactly, but it’s not particularly good either.
I dunno I’m only a few hours in but I find the gameplay clunky, the writing to be serviceable but uninspired, the interface terrible(and super hard to read due to text size), and just in general this is a big letdown.
The spin-attack set on fire move he does with his guns melee-attack is fucking amazing.
. . .as for time, doing like a few sidequests, I reached the title screen at about 9HRs. So engrossed in the game that I completely forgot that was a thing.

remember the "it's ok to not like things" internet video of days gone by?
we really need an "it's ok for you to love something without taking criticism of that thing as a personal attack on your identity" version for the modern age.

Hit the title card. That was a pretty effective intro sequence; it felt meaty and established a lot of character and setting without overstaying its welcome. Even the set-up stuff was to the point and didn't feel like traditional RPG busywork.
So far I find the combat underwhelming, but not offensively so. There's a shitload of stuff happening on screen, but none of it feels particularly urgent. I think a lot of that comes down to the AI and animations. Bullets and debris may be flying, but the character models sort of mill around aimlessly until you mop up all the hostiles. Stealth is a little more interesting and it's fun with a hacking-oriented character to manipulate the environment to create opportunities, but nothing that approaches the level of a game like Dishonored which specializes in that stuff.
The character writing is really good so far, and I like the performances. Having seen the setup for the game proper, I'm interested to see where this goes.
e: oh yeah, the UI is fucking dogshit.

Responding to criticism with your own rebuttal is not taking something as a personal attack on your identity.
I disagree with their assertion and am fully allowed to say something, correct?
