i just beat someone in sealed who activated their clever lumimancer literally every turn, it's just not good in limited even if it's insane in historic.
would disagree on make your mark in general, i like it just fine, but it's not great without enough 2 drops to cast it on, hmmmm.
it's better on turn 3 when you trade your first 2-drop for their first 2-drop after you cast a 2-drop leaving 1 up and sneak it in by surprise.
really supports a tempo that deck just didn't seem to have.
also pilgrim of the ages is a bomb card in limited control and dead in tempo, which is kinda rough.
just had a pilgrim draw every plains in my deck, chump a daemogoth, and afterward help grind down a pair of 8/8 tokens for value.
sealed is so slow as a format, like dang. if you don't get blessed by the surprise RW or WB aggro deck in your pool, build 3-color big value.
i milled someone out once by activating cogwork archivist 4-5 times to stack my deck and just removing all their bombs :rotate:
I think the problem with the optimisation loop was I'm trying to hit a moving target by not playing meta-decks.
Like it was absolutely blatant with my RG land matters deck.
Put Migratory Greathorn in, because mutate on landfall creatures and grabbing land seems good, and suddenly my deck is playing all the mutate decks.
Remove that card, or play a different deck, and I don't see any mutate decks whatsoever.
So I'm building decks for the meta I see, and that changes the meta, so I refactor, and I either burn out or build a deck that can beat 'itself' (as well as working well against metadecks).
Like Lurrus disenchantment, which preys on other decks with small creatures that might run Lurrus.
Building red aggro or something else meta is easier because the mirror is already predominate, and there's no surprises that need to be built around.
I'm just stoned-playing my old Vamps deck from years ago with a few recent cards added and I have no idea why I keep winning game after game after game in Historic. I do not belong in gold! I am terrible at magic!
Haha
The glorious feels when 60 card removal deck has Ashiok, a 5/5 shark and another two others just spawned from Sharknado, and aa full grip from midnight clock, and I have but an Alseid and a Lurrus on board.
But protection is hard, and so the Alseid protects the Lurrus through his turn so that the Lurrus can bring the Alseid back and protect the Lurrus from blue next turn.
To do 3.
Because the one turn I was allowed to do anything I stacked auras to hit face with a 15/* flyer and take them to 2.
Okay I got a weird draft, too many good cards came around and now I don't know how to build it.
Plargg is a flip that has a white side that is pretty good. Selfless Glyphweaver has a board wipe that is black on the back side. Combat Professor rules. But so does Beledros. Augmenter Pugilist is blue on the back and also very good.
But the mana base is rooough. Do I just cut the white? Rebalance the land? halp

Mono black Vampires is actually a fairly top- tier deck in historic, though your list is a bit different. Hitting Plat is mostly about grinding out games, though.

I think you do not have enough white to justify going full white and witherbloom is a much better splash and you need a couple more swamps to actually have a good chance of casting him
fuck gendered marketing

I built about half of a monoblack historic control deck because I'm a bad person.

Boy howdy Ugin sure is a card, huh.
If people really wanted to win games, they'd wouldn't play decks that allow fun. It's their own fault, really.
I recently made a fairly passable Crackle With Power deck. Dual Strike + Ierencrag Feat + Crackle = 20 damage to face. I threw some Chandras in there to try, and realized you can also win by popping her ultimate. I'm thinking of a GRx build with Vorinclex... maybe blue for counter spells?

Also, Cathartic Reunion + Dual Strike is nuts.
Day9 was playing that recently, it looked fun but pretty fragile.
He was trying out LSV's Mizzix's Mastery + Emergent Ultimatum deck the other day and that just looked gross.
Is not winning an acceptable answer? Not winning is giving me trouble

One of the funnier moments of my recent foray into historic was the first game against goblins. They were down to two Matrons on board and one card in hand, so I attacked with my Simulacrum, thinking there's no way they can hit back for 15 before I play Ugin next turn.
Then they played that goblin that grabs goblins off the top of the deck and attacked for 20ish.
The funniest moment was when I drew one of my recently crafted Ugins for the first time and my stomach instinctively tensed.
My intense hatred for combo is overcoming my love of burn decks. Four games in a row where three copies of Crackle are in my bottom 30.
One of the things I'm noticing playing Igneous Inspiration is that having Environmental Sciences when I'm mana starved is amazing in red, but also amazing is getting bolt something, and still have a card ready to pitch to Seize the Spoils/Thrill.
Also trying to break First Day of Class with Mascot Exhibition, but not sure how to get 9 mana together. Galazeth has the neat ability of turning all your equipment into Mindstones. Goldvein Pick and Shadowspears are good picks, Mazemind Tome and Spare Supplies aren't awful. Something like Pick->Mazemind->Robber+equip->Galazeth->First Day of Class. Not great.
Now that I think of it, FDoC->Lumimancer->Lesson isn't bad. That's probably the intended usage.

Slot it into Big Izzet maybe? Using Magma Opus and whatever the other one is as ramp + alternate payoffs.
Anyway, actually turned up to post:
Ok, bought the emote bundle.
Guy in the FNM play mode convinced me by reacting <MATH?> after proccing and losing an indestructible Resolute Rider to -2/-2
i'm interested in crafting winota because the manabase overlaps with the one i want for historic, and also she's a mythic which means she's cheap(er) than rares.
and i opened four blade historians in sealed, so... the opportunity cost is fairly low.

For some reason, Winota is banned in historic while Muxus runs free, so be careful of that.

Winota was banned in historic a while back when it was a much lower power format. They should probably unban her
Kaldheim is one of the best balanced sets they've released in a while. Even a lot of the draft chaff is pretty playable, and a lot of the Foretell cards are only slightly less good than their more played counterparts (Poison the Cup is great). Strixhaven, on the other hand, is pretty bleh. Lots of winners and losers.
I'm glad the Adventure mechanic was made, but I think it's going to feel a lot more at home in Historic. Will also be glad to see Lurrus leaving and making Midrange viable again.

I really hope Adventures in the Forgottem Realms has support for actual Adventures. Give Innkeeper some new tenants for a couple months.
I wonder if the Forgotten Realms set will be pure lore and characters or if it will have any DnD meta.
Like Drizzt, Gold Dragon, and magic missile cards or any Saving Throw, natural 20, or rules lawyer cards.

Today I learned that casting an 8 mana Blood on the Snow due to the second thing of Elspeth Saves the Day will not, in fact, let you get Ugin back.
v disappointing.
On the other hand, this deck has been tearing up the bo3 ladder. The only game it's lost so far in four bo3 matches was against an elf deck where all three Ugins were in the bottom 20 cards, and it turned around and slaughtered it the next two games.

Loading...?
Thanks for the code?
Guess I have to admit reinstalling a day ago though now.
I would like to Eriska Chariot some fractals.
But been just jamming Lurrus enchantment and limited so I don't fall down the optimisation loop again.
Thanks!

Some days your opponent is stuck on two lands while you draw eight lands off a four land hand and then they dump their hand and kill you.
Some days your opponent plays a Winota and you turn her into an elk.
Why do you want to clone 0/0s?

rediculous

Dina and Vito are traps for this build.
The real combo is duplicating the shit out of Plumb the Depths for Winterbloom Apprentice and Segmore Witch
If you have a Bastian of remembrance out when you plumb the depth its more or less game over

The standard meta is still largely defined by the stupidly powerful Eldraine and select cards from Ikoria and M21
Rotation is going to completely upend the entire thing even more than usual
