They will continue to keep him on air because he's their biggest audience draw/most prominent eldritch horror. Even if some advertiser drop him, others will happily show up and cover the slack to get those trendy spendy white supremacist eyeballs on their vile catalogue of horrors.

Even if enough advertisers pull out that they have to boot him, they'll just replace him with another guy who takes the temperature down just enough to seem comparatively reasonable and empathetic, and then he'll slowly turn the rhetoric back up

An important aspect of how Fox works is that it actually relies very little on advertising.

I mean obviously it's money and they want money but for reasons more complex than I can recall they also just charge by an order of magnitude the highest fee to be carried on cable.

    From https://unfoxmycablebox.com/:
Pay for cable or satellite TV? You’re subsidizing Fox News whether you watch it or not.

Your cable or satellite TV provider pays a subscriber fee to carry Fox News. That cost is passed directly on to YOU.

Every network charges cable and satellite providers a small fee per subscriber; the one for Fox News is extraordinarily high. A typical household pays Fox News almost $2 per month—about $20 per year— via their cable or satellite provider, regardless of whether they actually watch the channel.

In 2021, a wave of big contracts between Fox News and TV providers for subscriber fees are set to expire. These contracts make up about 65% if Fox News’ subscriber fee revenue. If we want to stop paying the Fox News “tax,” now is the time to act.

A massive number of people passively pay a $2/mo to have access to Fox News, regardless of how they feel about it.

So even when shows are whittled down to like a single emergency food bucket, that's only a small percentage of the revenue they get. It's worth it to get rid of it entirely if you're still using cable.

It's funny how Democrats won an election following "defund police" being a talking point for a year and Dems claimed it destroyed them, and now they're championing "fund the police more" and they're going to get dumpstered. This will of course lead them to the conclusion that "defund police" double destroyed them

Well then explain to people that the slogan means diverting funding from punitive measures to education and economic equality in a way that prevents crime better than any thug with a badge ever could. That seems pretty popular. No? Just going to cry? Going to piss and shit yourself a little?

Its wild to me that for so many issues the democrats plan has become telling voters that they don't actually like the thing they like and instead they should want this other thing instead.

They do this while stans tell us that those popular idea's are actually a loser politically.

Man what video games were white mobs playing in 1866?
The whites stomped, kicked, and clubbed the black marchers mercilessly. Policemen smashed the institute’s windows and fired into it indiscriminately until the floor grew slick with blood. They emptied their revolvers on the convention delegates, who desperately sought to escape. Some leaped from windows and were shot dead when they landed. Those lying wounded on the ground were stabbed repeatedly, their skulls bashed in with brickbats. The sadism was so wanton that men who kneeled and prayed for mercy were killed instantly, while dead bodies were stabbed and mutilated.

Directly I'm sure 4chan was more to blame, but indirectly Fox and Tucker influence a LOT of people and keep that kind of hate alive irl amongst a wide range of adults. Some of whom will go to 4chan and continue spreading it. It's not an isolated, either/or thing

In less scary news, I learned about Muriel Tramis, a game developer who left Martinique to get a career developing military drones in the French military, got bored with that, and moved to the games industry. Her career saw the early days of home computer game design and had lead development design on several titles

Freedom (alternatively subtitled The Shadow Warriors, or les Guerriers de l’Ombre in French), is about a slave uprising in Martinique where you play as one of 4 slaves gathering allies for an uprising.

This is the second game she set there, the first was Mewilo (had a failed kickstarter remake), where you were a paranormal specialist sent to the island days before the legendary eruption that killed thousands. Your character, unaware of the eruption, is chasing down the spirits of slaves who were ordered to bury their masters' gold before the uprising, and were then killed and buried with said gold. Their spirits acting as watchdogs.

So, learned about her, and how she got fucking inducted into the French Legion of Honor

    https://www.gamedeveloper.com/design/french-game-designer-muriel-tramis-awarded-legion-of-honor

Oh, and she is still alive and still doing game development.

The rhetoric in the shooter's manifesto is indistinguishable from Tucker Carlson's nightly rants.

The manifesto also just... straight up has graphs from The Bell Curve in it.

4chan helps memeify the ideology, but it's not where the ideology is formalized and initially disseminated from

I imagine a key difference between 4chan & Fox News is that if you have a relative addicted to the latter, you likely have Fox News playing in the background constantly.

4chan is very likely far worse but by its nature requires an active engagement (eg: reading/browsing).

Fox News? You can have that garbage washing over you while you prepare dinner, while you clean the house, while you do laundry, ect.

Yes! I just discovered her the other day when I was doing research on early game developers for a class I teach to after-school kids. In the past I've featured Roberta Williams particularly after the GG debacle resulted in a lot of kids saying that girls don't design games, but lately I've been really wanting to give my black and brown students someone they can aspire to. Tramis' story is particularly awesome because I can show off what the medal of the legion looks like and say maybe someday they can win an awesome medal like that too.

Plus Tucker Carlson talking about that shit is why when people who aren't terminally online they don't fully consider that kind of manifesto insane. And its an easy entry point to start looking up those kinds of theories and then lead people to youtube racists who lead them to 4Chan.

Fox news viewers will see the story and say "He has some good points, but I wouldn't personally take his actions."

Muriel Tramis, second video game personality to be inducted into the French Legion of Honor.

The first, inducted in 2014, was... David Cage. Yikes. Still in it today, though that might change with the upcoming trials against his company by former employees. (Crimes punished by at least one year of prison "automatically" exclude a legionary, but a decision to exclude a legionary "for acts contrary to honor" can be done but they require that that person be allowed to defend themselves.)

Anyway, good that Muriel Tramis is getting state honors.

    Children's rights are human rights.

Yeah but right wing militias and hate groups basically operate with impunity in the US as it is, and I guarantee that it's not because of a lack of coordination between law enforcement agencies. This isn't going to impede those groups regardless of who is in power so opposing it seems performative.
