In the timeline, she hasn't been seen in over 200 years. That was the big reason that it was only immortal or time-fucky characters that you saw in Dominaria, is enough time had passed that all the dudes from the old sets have died. Whatever the reason for her appearance, it's probably not related to Phyrexia.
It wouldn't surprise me if she's turned into some sort of lich. That kind of shit is in her and/or Chainer's wheelhouse.
what if dominaria united is about the current phyrexians timetraveling backwards through and grabbing/compleating people from different eras of that plane and brother’s war is an alternate retelling of the story with current-story characters mucking about inside it. it seems about right in the development cycle for a product to come out that someone somewhere thought cribbing from avengers endgame would be a big seller

I hate that you're probably right. Teferi would absolutely be like "I know a crazy motherfucker who could fight Phyrexians like a demon and invented the Golgothan Cylex." and Karn would be all "I'm listening"
I just wanted it to be a cool throwback set, but now it's gonna be time travel and I'm gonna be fussed.
"Go down, kick ass, and set yourselves up as gods, that's our Prime Directive!"

The Golgothian Sylex is a Thran artifact, Urza just managed to get his hands on it. (Also, Karn already found it back in Dominaria, IIRC?)
I think Braids retreated into whatever place she used to store the Nightmares/Horrors she’d summon when we last saw her, so if she’s been hanging out there the whole time she may have become one herself.

So far I really want to see an Elminster deck played (not going to build one myself). Noble Heritage looks delightful. Naultiloid Ship is a must have for my vehicle deck. Alora is just begging to be a ninja commander (although we already have several... Satoru and Yuriko and Kamiz and...) but abusing ETBs is always cute. And it doesn't have to be Dimir - lots of interesting options in other colors!
So far though the deck I want to make is Tasha.
Edit: Lulu Aristocrats or something? I think there's potential there...

So here's a question I can't seem to find an answer to--does (e.g.) Nissa Who Shakes the World's ult count as playing lands, for purposes of the Arena quest to play lands?

Playing land is a very specific action.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

I dunno, removing the distinction between mana abilities and activated abilities is probably up there as well. That would just completely wreck the game even on a basic "I try to cast a spell" level, and would feel absolutely gross to play.

There's a reason why those things don't use the stack!

The first time I ever lost a game to damage on the stack shenanigans was when I had a Muzzle on my opponent's creature, let it through unblocked, and he bounced it with damage on the stack to kill me.
I was a certified level 1 judge at the time and had never heard of this shit. I was so fucking upset that's how the rules worked.
Still flummoxed that there is not a term for "instants and sorceries" yet
Non-permanent.
You're not wrong, but that contains a lot of things that might not exist yet but could, and I doubt they would ever template cards that care about instants and sorceries that way.

Yeah they've never actually used that on a card. It's just the only one I could come up with until Rosewater finally pulls the "Instant is a supertype" trigger. Which will also never happen, to be clear.

I've been poking around some standard builds (lots of Jund Midrange stuff out there) and I like how Sarulf is getting a bit of attention. I suspect it's as a response to all the Treasure and sacrifice decks running around.
Mana dork lord is beautiful and I look forward to the nonsense he'll bring.
Or animated lands, those work too.
Edit: Viridian Joiner or Marwyn the Nurturer can get very dumb on that last trigger (add mana equal to their power). And Wurmcalling goes infinite with them. (Fanning the Flames too, if you have a way to filter the mana to red)
Edit 2: Actually the wurms are superfluous since you just swing all your other infinitely large tramplers you're making this way. The infinite infinitely large wurms are just a bonus (or you have a haste source, I guess, you're in red after all).

Selvala would work for color fixing, and can draw cards off the wurms.

I wonder how many cards that would actually break?
EDIT: I guess the primary issue would be things that refer to Sorceries and not instants, right? Those would have to be errata'd to say non-instant sorceries.

It would also muddy the distinction between "instant-speed" and "sorcery-speed" effects.

To nobody's surprise, there is a Baldur's Gate card.
