Aight, I just finished Evangelion 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo which is a dumb name but anyway
I've lost the thread.
Ain't none of this shit make sense no more and it barely ever did to begin with.
Also, I don't know if Shinji is supposed to be sympathetic but I absolutely despise this little shit. His (dub) voice actively makes me want to run headfirst into a woodchipper.
Edit: the more I think about it the more it feels like Evangelion suffers from having too cool of a premise. It's vague and mysterious and an absolutely absurd spectacle but the necessity of having to explain all this insane shit and move it towards some kind of resolution with closure means that it's gonna collapse under its own weight.
Granted, I still have 3.0+1.0 to go so maybe it sticks the landing. Also I'm watching the redo and not the series which I kinda didn't know was a thing going into this so I have no idea how these differ and if maybe I should've watched Evangelion + End of Evangelion. I dunno, Evangelion is baffling both in the subject matter and how you even engage it.

if it helps that's basically everyone's reaction to 3.33. the last movie 3.33+1.whatever the fuck basically explains what the fuck happened in 3.33 better than 3.33 does

I kinda almost wish that all these angels and shit never got explained and just existed as the backdrop to interpersonal mecha drama. It's like, what would happen if we woke up one day and the apocalypse kicked off with a giant fucking space cube with one billion angel eyes or whatever? We wouldn't know what the fuck was going on, it would just be a matter of trying to survive and adapt and understand what little fragments we could about the great Cosmic Red Hue that's come to make everything obnoxiously red.
I get Hideki Anno has like, things and stuff to say and I'm being picky, here but it's just my gut reaction.
Anno getting to co-direct Shin Godzilla and subsequently Shin versions of all his favorite tokusatsu properties probably threw a big wrench in the schedule

If the quality of Shin Kamen Rider and Ultraman are any indication, let him stick to doing that.

This is pretty much what the original series + End of Eva is.

The big thing is at teh time, from what I remember, 3.0 basically sent Anno back into a depressive state which, when you know about Anno’s past, the way Eva is basically his most personal work, and 3.0 basically being about “What if you did desperately run back home to your abuser thinking that everything was all your fault and thought you could fix everything by doing what they wanted from you?” And then… yeah, can see how that grinds further production to a halt for someone like Anno.
Supposedly, it was the Shin Godzilla project that helped pull him back out of that state.

doesn't seem like it's streaming anywhere currently but the new bluray release of the OVA is out next month
also don't watch the theatrical cut, it cuts out too much stuff for something that doesn't have all that many moving parts in the first place and suffers for it

If you're on the fence about buying it, I wouldn't be surprised if it hits streaming after the smoke clears, like Kimagure Orange Road did.

Oof, I actually hadn't heard he was in a bad place after that one, that certainly explains the timelines a bit better.
Maybe they should just... stop driving him into depression in order to make anime.

In an incredible demonstration of not getting the joke, there are people accusing Mashle of plagiarizing Fullmetal Alchemist, because apparently the education system failed them and didn't teach the definitions of homage, parody, and satire.

Yeah; I imagine things too like the small net controversy that kicked up in the wake of the NHK documentary about the making of Shin Kamen Rider don’t help either. There’s a bit there where Anno and the action director end up getting into an argument about how they’re doing the fight sequences for the end of the film (from the documentary you can tell that Anno is clearly not very experienced in directing fight sequences in live action, at least not at this scale, and has difficulty expressing just what he’s looking for), and at one point the action director walks off set because of it, then Anno goes and apologizes to him for his behavior and asks him to come back to set, which, you know, being a professional he does.
But you have, for some reason, folks on the net comparing Anno’s behavior on set to, like, domestic abuse, and it’s pretty shitty because Anno himself was actually on the receiving end of that as a kid from his dad (he’s written about it in Asahi Shimbun before; there’s an English language edition floating around somewhere still), who sounds like a pretty big bastard.

Rebuild of Eva 3+1 was genuinely kind of impressive in how much it felt like a final capstone on all of Evangelion
like I don't know if that movie lands the same way if you're new to the franchise and watching all at once, but with >15 years of buildup like I had, it hit like a goddamn freight train
I watched all the rebuild movies in a row over a couple days at some point, they didn't really land for me sadly. I could not put my finger on what worked and didn't work though, it's complicated. The original TV series was pretty important to me so the ways it deviated from it felt bad to me, and the ending didn't really feel like a more satisfying conclusion than the end of the TV show, or End of Evangelion was either.
If anything Mashle is copying from Black Clover given that also has a main character than can't use magic so instead just works out all the time. But that's the extent of that comparison.
Mashle is copying a manga I read years ago where the main character has "Muscle Magic", which is just him being so ludicrously strong he can do impossible stunts that baffle everyone around him who can use magic, and is socially awkward because he doesn't fully comprehend societal norms resulting in shenanigans.
This is the nature of manga though, most of them copy what came before and sometimes they end up more popular than the original.

I should probably catch up on Mashle soon; it’s one of those Jump manga like Witch Watch and Akane-Banashi where instead of week to week with the rest of them it just feels better to let them build a back log up and read in one go

You’re right.
The best is Godzilla vs the Cosmic monster

That's ridiculous.
It's clearly just Harry Potter with muscles.
(Mashe's FMA jokes are great).
Is longer than the gap between End of Evangelion and 1.0

It didn't feel as long due to how long it took for 3.0 to come out in america officially, but yeah, its wild
