Godzilla is definitely a Giant Lizard, and he is nuclear. There Giant Lizards that are not nuclear. The question is, then, are there nuclear lizards that are not giant? I posit you nay.
And please do not cite Godzuki he is baby.

Hey I finally got to watch Shin Ultraman!
It wasn’t as good as Shin Godzilla, but y’know, what could be, so that’s fine. I loved the effects, Anno and Higuchi using the height of modern technology to make computer generated imagery look like the fakest 1960’s TV models and guys in suits. It also continues Anno’s trend of reusing the old sounds and music wherever he can, and that combined with the presentation really creates this surreal, totally unique vibe. It’s not a modern reimagining, or a perfect recreation — it’s like attempting to perfectly recreate the creative vision of the 60’s show rather than its reality, but it considers the sound and creature design uncompromised
The only real problem is that it’s trying to cram a full season’s worth of story into less than two hours! With more time to breathe and do some character work and give its themes somewhere to take root, it would hit harder
As it is, it’s entertaining, silly, psychedelic, and fun, but hard for me to recommend to anyone who isn’t already into this junk. It doesn’t have the broad appeal of the Legendary Godzillas or the genuine craft of Shin Godzilla
In English adjective order size comes before most other specific descriptors, however if Godzilla is a giant lizard full stop, you could possibly describe him as nuclear first
I think then nuclear becomes an "opinion quality" such as delicious, angry, or selfless, which is an interesting connotation. Nuclear could be Godzilla's attitude/predisposition rather than a description of his relation to radioactive materials.
Of course "Radioactive Giant Lizard" would then describe a Godzilla who has been Canceled
Honestly, after fucking up Japan twice, Godzilla was pretty canceled from like 1955 until 1962, when he started getting work as the heel against more famous monsters like King Kong or Mothra, which lead to the opportunity to rehabilitate his image into that of a planetary hero, environmentalist and father.

Don't forget extremely gentle and magnanimous lover.

Yeah I picked it up on Vudu, but I presume it’s also on Amazon and wherever else now
Interesting fact from the Godzilla Redacted panel: for GMK, Shusuke Kaneko wanted a scene where Godzilla destroys the Emperor’s Castle. Toho ended up not approving this scene

The Monarch stuff is the most boring aspect of the new American Zilla. It’s no fun when humanity has some sort of technological or otherwise advantage on the monsters that some dumb secret organization has been studying for decades.
Have monster show up and humanity be out of their depth. Gotta think on our feet.
A little Godzilla in all of us etc.

It works when they specifically prep for it and then fuckin fail because it's Godzilla, you don't win.

Meanwhile I love that shit, reminds me of when the humans had a research facility on Monster Island where they’d put all the monsters to study like a big zoo, that kind of invitation to goofy sci-fi production design is my jam
It just only really works in Godzilla vs Kong, because King of the Monsters ain’t that good
The King of the Monsters Clair de Lune trailer sold me a bill of goods I ain’t yet recovered from.
Not quite as big a quality difference as the Prometheus trailer, but certainly way up there
if we're comparing bills sold, how about that first Man of Steel trailer?
That’s the other one, yeah! Hard to decide which pissed me off more, but KotM really isn’t in that conversation, it’s just fairly disappointing and not active anger
Yeah, this trailer suggested to me a level of awe and wonder about the monsterverse that was not delivered on in the slightest
There's the part where Mothra emerges from the waterfall while an orchestral version of her theme plays and that's the closest the film gets.
KotM runs afoul of the #1 cardinal sin of a giant monster movie. We know you can't have the monster on screen for the entire movie, you know it, the people making the movie know it, and we all except it; but if you're going to focus on humans it has to be interesting otherwise you're making the audience put up with your shitty screenplay to get the next bit of action.
One thing that really bothers me about KotM, and this is a particular pet peeve of mine: The film ALMOST works as an overly self-serious take on the material, which can be good for a wacky premise.. but there's this guy.
THIS GUY. This motherfucker right here. This dude knows he's in a godzilla movie and will not hesitate for a moment to drop in one of those comments or one-liner that the audience should be making about your dumb movie. If you have a character who keeps telling me the movie is shlock, the don't expect me to not treat your movie like shlock.
Are we talking comics Thor or MCU Thor? Because in the comics, Godzilla's superhero nemesis in the Marvel universe (because Godzilla was in the Marvel universe for a hot minute) was Dum Dum Dugan, to give you an idea of where he rated.
Thor can crack continental plates with Mjolnir. Right? I don’t think Thor could fully put down Godzilla because regeneration, but Big G would probably decide it ain’t worth it after a tussle. I think it’s likely that Thor would get beat up some first from underestimating Midgard’s monsters compared to Asgard.
BTW I know these arguments can be very dumb and I don’t want to annoy folks, I just find them a fun distraction.

What little we see of the CGI looks great, design looks very old school, and it actually reminded me of the 2014 teaser trailer, which is very funny
Now if only they’d make a new Godzilla game for something other than phones, we’d really be eating good

Got the Oppenheimer sequel done pretty quick.
Surprised Toho signed off on this one.
But I'll be rooting for Godzilla.
Penny Arcade Rockstar Social Club / This is why I despise cyclists
Oh, because Warner Bros. is run by a moron, that's why.
Frankly I’m astonished they’re putting out more than just a movie every few years so I’ll take whatever I get wherever I can get it

I'm guessing they'll both take a round, then have to team up against some new giant monster from space.
I'm still Team Godzilla though.
Looks like a Godzilla

Is that a fuckin remake of the OG Godzilla plot?

Pretty confident that Thor could beat or at least drive away Godzilla but he’d get beat up a bit first.

Unless another monster wants to do this then Godzilla gets all jealous about it.
I can't believe this is even a conversation in the year of our Lord 2023.
