I don't think we've talked about books in some time.
Anyways,
here's the top ten books you shouldn't read before you die. It starts out pretty accurate, then it goes off the deep end. Accusing Hunter S. Thompson of not being literary seems to be missing the point, don't you think?
Right now I'm reading Diablo Cody's memoir
Candy Girl, because it was free and I'm not in the mood to read about existential terror and man's inhumanity to man.

I think I'm going to read Shantaram if I get a chance. Any of you read it? If yes, what do you think of it? If no, how you doing?
I might read Animal Farm again. I read that book like once a year.

Thsi past year, my college chose Persepolis as the book it would ask incoming freshmen to read and discuss at the beginning of the next year. The student newspaper then ran an editorial about how the program was getting dumbed down and Persepolis wasn't a real book b/c it's a comic book.
I wrote an angry letter to the editor that I'm sure everyone ignored when it ran.
Holy shit I thought the main LotR trilogy was boring. I had no idea.
I agree, the first book was the only one I got all the way through.
After about a hundred pages of tennis bullshit, I decided I'd had enough.
Boy, Podly's going to be pissed that Ulysses is on that list.
The only book on that list I agree with is basically anything written by Jane Austen.
The rest of those are pretty awesome and it sounds to me like that guy just wants to read Dan Brown.
I really liked it, though. It wasn't really a storybook, more of a tome of Middle Earth history.
Those are fun when you're a kid
Dumb
Formulaic
But fun
nobody ever has finished ulysses
Seriously.
I guess that's why Joyce seemed to quit halfway through, too.
WRONG

It's pretty great, but I can't talk about it in the Writer's Block because the thread is spoiler tastic. The second book has been as good as the first for the most part.
Took a class on it.
You are looking at one of 15 people that finished that monster.
It was fun in parts.
Fuck this book, long and hard.
were those parts the ones where you stopped reading
Everything past Cirith Ungol just makes me feel like I'm fucking starving.
Also debating whether i should be productive and head out to DC this weekend for the National Book Festival. I mean, Neil Gaiman's gonna be there! and Brad Metzler! umm, and RL Stine?
No, Joyce was pretty clever with what he tried to do with that book. I think he took it way past the point of decency and I'm pretty sure in the back of his head, he was laughing about the pain he was going to put people through, but that doesn't mean it wasn't good and entertaining at parts.
Not a fan of pretty much anything involving Bloom's wife. Just boring.
And boring, and poorly constructed and in archaic English and completely worthless and
oh booo
"Because it feels so good when I stop."
