@Tamin: It is entirely too early in the project to give any real feedback. Get *something* other than scaffolding and then we shall see.

@Cool Architectural Dudes: Alright so I have been keeping this under wraps for a while, but I need your help. Specifically, I need to know how to make tall, thin arches. More specifically, the kind like you see in this James Gurney illustration, on the left side:
    gurney3.jpg

I have been practicing and developing new architectural techniques in and around Candle Keep for the last few weeks. When we get the server wipe on halloween, I have a new city planned, you see.
    Waterfall%20City%20afternoon%20light%20lg_300.jpg

Oh yes. Oh yes. It will be glorious. But I need help on the arches. Suggestions? I've tried stairs and half-blocks but nothing really gives a curved feeling in the small amount of space available.

Aaand here we go. This is literally the second time I've ever used Premiere, so it's not perfect, but I'm happy with it. All the sounds are straight from Bioshock 1 and 2.

I would strongly recommend viewing these at 720p on youtube, so they look less awful.

Actually, that's Waterfall City, capital of Dinotopia and home of the great clock and the Libiary. Must've read that book 20 times when I was a kid...

Man, that'd be epic to see...I wanted to make R'lyeh, but that would take far more effort and time than I have at the moment...

It looks like he actually dug a channel for it, so it actually falls down one more block than the hull layer, so there is no spread. He might have dug out from the forcefield by one block, perhaps.

creative mode doesnt have water physics if i recall correctly. as far as i know, it was a self propagating virus type block, it just spread where there was space if it could. i.e. if there was a block in the skyline, it would flood the world.

My girlfriend has bitched at me a few times these past couple weeks, for playing Minecraft. I finally sat her down and gave her brief instructions on how to make her first wooden pick and some torches. Twenty minutes later she screams in terror. I was busy cooking so I ran in to see what was happening. She had her little dirt house blown to bits by three creepers. Apparently she'd gone outside to see what they were, thinking they were docile like sheep.

She's hooked and is now trying to get enough arrows to fend off any creepers that come near her wood cabin.

lol I hope you each have your own computer, otherwise good luck getting on to play.

So I've just found the most beautiful natural scene ever in Minecraft..

I had been starting a single player game for fun and to mess with carts and just to fool around in when I came across this:
    beautiful.jpg

A water spring between TWO pools of lava?! Obsidian out the wazoo!!!!

At the time, I didn't have a diamond pick, so I started grid mining nearby and found 4 diamond ore. Made a diamond pick and am now carefully working my way around. This is going to be HUGE if I can properly tame the water and not burn/drown in the process.

Also didn't know that there was so many places I haven't seen, but I guess that's just how fast Rapture is growing.

    Well, shit.

Now we're going to have to put on just as good a show for Columbia.

A couple conceptual ideas for the video:

Keep it kind've close to the trailer. Saltonstall can be preaching his jingoist rhetoric from the rotunda (that small round thing), the player approaches, gets a 'gun' out of the chests (reskinned bow, probably), then Salt turns and looks at the player, calls for Charles to 'attend'...

Then, I think, with my plugin, I can spawn a horde of chickens on myself, which I can reskin to look like crows. :3

We melee Charles off, go chasing Salt through the city, eventually stumble into a bar at which point the player gets mobbed to shit.

Hey so, it occurred to me that I hadn't taken a single photo of the Keep in all these weeks. I made a quick screenshot walkthrough, posted here for your amusement.

For the record, CK was largely a one man project with assists by Morkath, Corehealer, Solleiz, and a whole hell of a lot of digging teams. It was completed over a period of 3 weeks or so. (Completed isn't the right word, it'll never be completed- always more to do!)

    Without further ado:
    CANDLE KEEP
    A walking tour
    CK7.jpg

Here we are at the front gate. To the left are the stables, ahead is the main street.

    CK1.jpg

Through the stables you will find the North Quarter. Not entirely finished, this area features the courthouse, united nations assembly, and baron's villa.

    CK2.jpg

The many flags of Einland fly above the united nations building.

    CK3.jpg

Reversing course, we enter the Old Town. Here we stand in the town square, facing the cathedral and clock tower.

    CK4.jpg

Towering above us on the ridge sits the Keep itself, a mongrel collection of towers and secret halls.

    CK10.jpg

There is a cold and lonely throne inside the Keep. Where is its' owner? Perhaps lost in the dungeons that honeycomb the undercity.

    CK6.jpg

Moving westward we find the harbor, apparently under attack by cephalopods unknown.

    CK11.jpg

The lighthouse, recently incorporated into the city proper.

    CK9.jpg

The top of the lighthouse offers a good view of the colosseum and South Quarter, currently under construction.

    CK12.jpg

Finally a view of the Colosseum interior, currently playing host to a spleef arena.

    CK8.jpg

With that we bid adieu to the town of Candle Keep. Many mysteries lurk in her depths, but you will have to visit in person to discover them all!
