A monster wearing the guise of the Nazi who ran the concentration camp Erik was held in as a kid has been, brutally, killing mutants in Genosha and there's nothing that seems to atop it, it just survives every single attack as if it isn't even real.
Then Erik remembers one of the mutants he saved during Axis, a young woman with illusion powers.
Turns out her powers are a bit more than she let on and her illusions manifest into reality sometimes, and on top of that she has poor control over them and ends up pulling creations from the subconsciousness of those around her. Hence, evil Nazi monster.
Erik realizes what he has to do to kill the monster and apologizes and tells her it's the only way.
She tells him that it's his monster and there is definitely another way to kill it, its just one he will never do.
So she says she knows that she can't control it and it will likely get worse so he should just get it over with and hide her body because if anyone found out his new mutant sanctuary would fall apart.
The issue ends with him walking away from the site of the deed, realizing he can never build anything truly great because it will always be ruined by his own darkness.
By process of elimination I figured out what the top 5 are and the good news is there's only one of them that I'll be real salty over it getting the type spot.
Although one of the others is a book I think people here overrate to crazy degree despite liking it myself.

That seems kind of forced. Yeah there was another way to kill that instance, but she was just going to do it again with someone else. That was the correct solution. =/

Like the fact that it is one dude writing it over 15 years is half the appeal
It's good as a whole because so many of the individual issues have been good to great, and incredibly few, possibly even none of them have been bad. It is the most consistently high quality comic I have ever read.

I think you have like, the opposite opinion of me here.
Well, at least on IIF.
USM and AXM are both solid runs, but they both pale in my mind compared to IIF.
And I'd probably put Hawkeye on their level as well, overall, but I think I like it better than either of them still.

i look it at whenever i start to get scared or sad, it really helps
it hangs right next to a print-out of the silver age panel of Superman's message on the moon, which is also a therapeutic image for me in other ways
