I am bad at this. I can't seem to stop getting games and am very bad at beating them. Currently at 43/188 after buying Final Fantasy III (VI) and The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past from the VC.
Made some progress in Tales of the Abyss this week. I just hate that it's this long. 45 hours and still not done.
I'm going to be having this problem soon with Skyrim (already spent 50 hours on it and barely scratched the surface of the story), Mario & Luigi 3, and the Witcher. My usual strategy is to pick either a game under 10 hours or one that I've nearly played to the end and plow through it as fast as I can. 50 to 100 hour RPGs throw a wrench into that.
Right now I'm trying to finish Sonic Unleashed. I think I only have two story levels and a boss fight left, but I'm stuck on the QTE-Em-Up airplane level near the end.
I picked up Mass Effect 3 yesterday, since it was $30 off at Gamestop. There's also a whole bunch of indie games on sale this weekend, and I know I'm going to fall for a few of them, like the PA Eps and the Zeboyd pack, but my backlog needs a clean-up, so I'll do so later.
After putting it down about four years ago, I finally finished Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations. It's only part of my Greater Backlog (5/∞) , but finishing it allows me to start playing Ace Attorney Investigations on my Gift Backlog.

I didn't care for #2 as much either, but I think #3 might be my favorite in the series so far. Since I have my DS out, I've started working on Solatorobo again.
GamersGate VOID sucked me in. On the plus side, I'm about 75% done with Crisis Core, and considering which handheld game to play next. I'm thinking of going back to Lock's Quest and at least seeing if it's more playable on a DS Lite while riding a train to work than it was on a DS Phat while riding a bus.

Just wrapped up Alice: Madness Returns. Still want to complete the original game that's included as a bonus, but I think I'm gonna put that aside for now.
Might come back in a few months and grab a few achievements, but I'm by no means an achievement fiend.
Found a gently used copy of Ace Attorney: Investigations for fifteen dollars at a Gamestop while on vacation. I have the whole set now, and I'm hard at work on it. Going to see if I can clear it tonight or tomorrow.
I bought the Humble Indie Bundle and the Indie Royal Bundle. I couldn't help myself.
Not too terrible, because I'll probably only ever play Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery from the HIB since I already owned some of them, but a bunch from the Indie Royal.
I'm making good progress on Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles: Ring of Fates too. Football Manager not so much. I may end up cutting that one short.

Just made an account and put maybe 1/4 of the games I gotta play up there.
Another game "done". I went to the end of Tales of the Abyss and youtubed the ending. 58 hours is a long time to play one game.
Say what you will, getting to the final boss, not being able to beat said boss after numerous tries, and getting frustrated, can't I watch the ending on youtube to save time and consider the game done?

Completed Penumbra: Overture, Black Plague and Requiem. Overture is great, and has great scares and puzzles. Black Plague is truly fucking terrifying, and the puzzles are also quite brilliant. Requiem is not as scary, but that's probably because
I accidentally read somewhere that there are no monsters, only environmental hazards
. The puzzles are still very good though; feels like lots of Half-Life puzzles. At no point in any of these games did I ever find myself thinking "derp, this puzzle is right out of Resident Evil 4." Each one makes me feel like a hyper-intelligent brain guru. PROTIP: Requiem is included if you purchased Black Plague on Steam, or on Frictional Games' website.
Easter eggs: There are two easter eggs I found. In Overture, you can find the Merch on one of the walls in the last chemical mixing room. There's also a funny Half-Life reference at the frozen lake part.
Wagon falling is because of the Humblest of Indie Bundles: Superbrothers, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Super Meat Boy, Lone Survivor and BRAID. The other 3 I had already purchased. BRAID I also have incomplete on 360, but PC is better, so shifted the Xbox entry to the PC backlog instead.
EDIT: Forgot I had Shadow Complex unfinished on Xbox.

It's awesome to see all the activity in this thread. Nice to know I'm not alone in my backlog adventures.
!Update Status (98/124 99/125)
A few weeks back I finished Saints Row 2. I was very surprised at how much I liked it. It was free with SR3 and I really had no intention of playing it and planned on just jumping straight to SR3, but the SR thread told me I should give it a try. Now I'm really excited for SR3, which is supposed to be even better, but I have one or two more open world games on my list to play first.
I also knocked out a few non backlog games. I platinumed LEGO Harry Potter 5-7, and I finally through Minerva's Den for Bioshock 2. I liked it more than Bioshock 2, but I think it was built up by the internet a little too much. It also made me realize that I'm really done with that method of storytelling (interactions with NPCs primarily over radio, using audiotapes as the main method of fleshing out the world, etc.).
I technically got a ton of new games with my PSN+ subscription, but the only one that I'm adding to my backlog is the Ratchet & Clank game. I hear it's not that good, but I've played all the others and it was on my list to pick up on the cheap, so I'll get to it eventually.
I'm one episode into Back To The Future and I'm gonna start Uncharted 3 tonight.

I felt the same, and for me it didn't change for the entire 20-30 hours I played it. Probably the game I had to force myself to finish the most. I kept hoping I'd start enjoying the it more, but it felt so huge and lonely. I'm assuming it's better with friends, but I played it solo.
Yeah, I have a feeling it'll be the same with me. Except I won't have any friends to play with and will give up. Hell, I bought it to play with a friend and it never panned out.
I wrapped up Ace Attorney Investigations from my Gift Backlog today. Now I'm going to go weep over Capcom turning down AAI2 for localization.
I also finished Tomb Raider: Legend to prep for playing Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Since this is my second time playing it, I guess I can't really put it on my Completed Games list.

I'm going to be having this problem soon with Skyrim (already spent 50 hours on it and barely scratched the surface of the story), Mario & Luigi 3, and the Witcher. My usual strategy is to pick either a game under 10 hours or one that I've nearly played to the end and plow through it as fast as I can. 50 to 100 hour RPGs throw a wrench into that.
Right now I'm trying to finish Sonic Unleashed. I think I only have two story levels and a boss fight left, but I'm stuck on the QTE-Em-Up airplane level near the end.
After putting it down about four years ago, I finally finished Phoenix Wright: Trials and Tribulations. It's only part of my Greater Backlog (5/∞) , but finishing it allows me to start playing Ace Attorney Investigations on my Gift Backlog.

Completed Penumbra: Overture, Black Plague and Requiem. Overture is great, and has great scares and puzzles. Black Plague is truly fucking terrifying, and the puzzles are also quite brilliant. Requiem is not as scary, but that's probably because
Easter eggs: There are two easter eggs I found. In Overture, you can find the Merch on one of the walls in the last chemical mixing room. There's also a funny Half-Life reference at the frozen lake part.
Wagon falling is because of the Humblest of Indie Bundles: Superbrothers, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, Super Meat Boy, Lone Survivor and BRAID. The other 3 I had already purchased. BRAID I also have incomplete on 360, but PC is better, so shifted the Xbox entry to the PC backlog instead.

!Update Status (98/124 99/125)
A few weeks back I finished Saints Row 2. I was very surprised at how much I liked it. It was free with SR3 and I really had no intention of playing it and planned on just jumping straight to SR3, but the SR thread told me I should give it a try. Now I'm really excited for SR3, which is supposed to be even better, but I have one or two more open world games on my list to play first.
I also knocked out a few non backlog games. I platinumed LEGO Harry Potter 5-7, and I finally through Minerva's Den for Bioshock 2. I liked it more than Bioshock 2, but I think it was built up by the internet a little too much. It also made me realize that I'm really done with that method of storytelling (interactions with NPCs primarily over radio, using audiotapes as the main method of fleshing out the world, etc.).
I technically got a ton of new games with my PSN+ subscription, but the only one that I'm adding to my backlog is the Ratchet & Clank game. I hear it's not that good, but I've played all the others and it was on my list to pick up on the cheap, so I'll get to it eventually.
I'm one episode into Back To The Future and I'm gonna start Uncharted 3 tonight.
I felt the same, and for me it didn't change for the entire 20-30 hours I played it. Probably the game I had to force myself to finish the most. I kept hoping I'd start enjoying the it more, but it felt so huge and lonely. I'm assuming it's better with friends, but I played it solo.
I wrapped up Ace Attorney Investigations from my Gift Backlog today. Now I'm going to go weep over Capcom turning down AAI2 for localization.
I also finished Tomb Raider: Legend to prep for playing Tomb Raider: Anniversary. Since this is my second time playing it, I guess I can't really put it on my Completed Games list.
