Well, shit.
My indecision is eating me up inside.
I just started my third playthrough.
I now have a ME2-new Male Shep, Adept.
A ME2-new Male Shep, Infiltrator.
A ME1 imported Female Shep, Adept.
They each have their pros and cons.
I want to play Male because the prospect of being an Interstellar Charles Bartowski is difficult to pass up (even if they gave her a very strange jawline), the romances all seem really interesting. Plus the default male model looks the best of all options.
The female romances are not grabbing me.
But on the other hand, the infiltrator is furthest along in the storyline and has a sniper rifle and is male.
The male adept is an adept, and is male.
The female is super powerful and equipped with cool stuff early on, has loads of money and the background I want and can toss fools.
I could start a new game with my level 50 renegade character, but I don't want the renegade background.
Curses.

So... this incisor rifle I keep hearing about. Is that paid dlc? Do I have to be in the marketplace to pay for it, or does it show up on the Cerberus network? The last time I was able to log on was Sunday, and that was when I downloaded my Dr Pepper dlc and Zaeed. I didn't see an incisor rifle.
One thing I really don't get: People who go Renegade but don't help out wounded people.
I mean, you are alread yin a conversation with them. Those people are bleeding out right in front of you.
What is the reason for letting them die? You gain nothing from letting them die,so why do it?
I dunno, but I got an extra 2,000 credits off the sick Batarian while going to pick up Mordin by letting him die.
Or think of it this way.
Why would you waste medigel on a random Batarian sick with a fatal plague?
How much paragon/renegade do I need to properly defuse their argument? I didn't have enough the first time I played and you need it pretty much max to stop Miranda from being a bitch, so...
Full, but you can talk to the pissed off one afterwords and reloyalize them if you get a full bar.
When you leave behind your squad to hold the door the best way to do it is to take anybody who is capable of fighting straight up and using a non pistol weapon, like a shotgun, sniper rifle or assault rifle. These guys will survive, while leaving behind dudes like Mordin and Miranda who aren't soldiers leads to deaths. I did Legion through the vents, Miranda leading the fireteam, Samara for the barrier, Grunt for the escort, and took Mordin and Miranda with me. Everybody loyal, full upgrades, no deaths.
How much paragon/renegade do I need to properly defuse their argument? I didn't have enough the first time I played and you need it pretty much max to stop Miranda from being a bitch, so...
What happens if you fail?
I'm not positive, but:
I'm pretty sure the way it works is you need 75% in either to diffuse the argument as it happens, but if you miss that chance, you need 100% in either to persuade the offended party to become loyal again.
Although I'm not sure because I ended up playing a mixed Shep and as a result I never got 100% in either so I just didn't have a loyal Jack at endgame.
How much paragon/renegade do I need to properly defuse their argument? I didn't have enough the first time I played and you need it pretty much max to stop Miranda from being a bitch, so...
What happens if you fail?
You lose the loyalty of the one you didn't side with. This is eventually fixable by making a Parangon/Renegade check while talking to them again, to get their loyalty back. If you also fail that one, however, you're SOL
Edit : damn it internet.

Courtesey of that wonderful silly goose Stele, here's the anomaly list so that it doesn't get lost too far in the thread:

I had
Legion thru the vents, Garrus leading the fireteams, Samara for the barrier, Jacob for the escort and didn't pick anyone to guard the door, hence everyone stayed (except Samara and Tali). Full loyalty, full upgrades except for maybe one SMG one, and didn't have any deaths.
Working on my 2nd playthrough. (1st was Paragon MaleShep, this one is Renegade FemShep)
I tried playing an Adept on Hardcore, but kept getting my ass handed to me during the Archangel mission after I split up the team, so I bumped it down to Veteran. I could probably have gotten through it if I'd kept my team together, but I was worried about leaving Archangel on his own. Was I worrying about nothing, or are there any significant repercussions?
For my Insanity run, I'm going to play the Jerk with a Heart of Gold route (Renegade speech options and taking any advantage in a fight, but doing the right thing when it comes to matters of actual importance).
Going by advice, I'll probably go back to soldier for that one, but I'm not sure which bonus talent to go for.
I think I've got ammo pretty well covered, so I'm looking for something that'll help me stay alive long enough to shoot. Which is the best defensive skill? Off hand I can think of Barrier, Geth Shield and whatever Grunt uses (is it this games version of Immunity or something?), but I'm not sure what the different strengths are.
Speculation on ME3:
Since we're looking at a Grand Finale, I assume guess it's going to finish with a showdown with the Reapers. I'd guess you spend most of the game rallying support and organising a force to take them on. I can see some good Paragon/Renegade choices in there (Do you help the Quarians enslave the Geth, help one side wipe out the other, or organise a peace/truce to get both fleets fighting for you?), and combined with finding a way to fight back that doesn't cost a fleet per Reaper, there could be a lot of potential there.
I'd also expect someone to ally themselves with the Reapers to help themselves (TIM is a prime candidate for this, as either he's pissed as hell at you for destroying the base, or he's spending time on a base with a direct connection to a Reaper. How far can they make indoctrination work?)
What's with the lack of gay options bioware? Seriously better sort this out for three.
I mean maybe it was just me, but after Garruses loyalty mission, when he's telling you how he blows off steam, I got hella overtones. Is the scene the same with female Shep?
IIRC Bioware's reason was that there isn't enough "demand" for it to justify the cost of writing and recording extra dialogue and whatnot. I guess the development team's assumption at the time was that non-gay gamers can't possibly be interested in a (male) gay romance option for their character, basically underestimating their entire audience.
Dragon Age might have convinced them otherwise, though, so I'm keeping my hopes up for ME3, even if it's a moot point for my main Shepard, a hard woman whose heart died with Kaidan (because I couldn't bring myself to like him no matter how hard I tried).

A lot of people seem to be (suicide mission spoilers):
Sending Legion through the vents, opposed to Tali. What, you guys don't think the gal can handle herself? :P I'm one to talk though, I sent Legion through anyway, just to hear more of D.C. Douglas.
Addendum: Screw you EDI, I'll probe Uranus if I damn well want to.

This time I didn't let him take the shot.. good convos with Sidonis and Garrus result. Quite a bit better than just letting him waste the guy. Should have done that the first time around..

That is such a dodge.
So Zaheed brought something to the forefront of my mind.
The Turians are an incredibly war hungry imperial power. Yet are as a people are incredibly polite middlemen. Have the largest fleet in the galaxy. Fairly heavy class elements and regimented separation thereof. Colonizing defeated enemies but don’t treat them as badly as many of the other races (whilst still not treating them ideally). And have a complicated relationship with the upcoming foremost species inline to become the largest power in the alliance, both militarily and culturally. One with which a lot of their history is based on a specific war, and whilst there is hatred there also seems to be some mutual respect.
Yet not one of them gets a British accent?

You know, I think there is only one thing the game is missing.
More advesaral dialogue.
I'm thinking mostly of in ME1 the two times you and Saren are shoting at each other from behind cover before the fight breaks out, it just felt fucking awesome and the lines were delivered with perfect emotional punch. (At least on FemShep, I never did go very far with MaleShep)
The only part in the game I can think of that had that same quality was when you are recruiting Jack and she shouts at the leader guy "You're a two bit slaver and I don't have time for you."

Hey DVG, you should add that anomalies list to your resource list while you're at it! Because anomalies are a kind of resource, right?
So I briefly started ME2 till I realised I had bad ME1 saves where I picked dumb decisions. Just watching the ME1 credits now with the proper decisions made.
So about ME2: Did they get rid of god damned planet exploration? Mako Mountaineering was fun as balls, oh look some ore! oh look some shifty looking cow! oh shit a thresher maw!
I tried to land on a planet but it sent me straight into a building, and the other planets have some boring scanning minigame.

FemShep can blow off steam with him. It's mostly played for laughs (definitely the comedy option of romances), but there's a pretty tender, heartfelt line at the end of it.
Personally, I felt like the fem romances were pretty weak. Jacob's not terribly interesting and Garrus is, as I said, mostly for comedy. Haven't seen Thane's yet.
Also, FemShep has awesome lewd smirks.

When you find an anomaly (a planet you can land on, they're much rarer this time round) then it drops you straight into the mission zone. They're mostly/all different, not cut and paste jobs, and they're actually fun. There's a list posted by me, (original list compiled by Stele) on page 2.

When I read the new and improved Turian codex entry, I though they were based on the Roman Republic, just with a MUCH deeper hierarchy. Specifically I had read this wikipedia article on how Romans were divided into classes based (at least in theory) on the ability of their lands to support them as military personnel (or in the higher classes how big an ARMY their lands could support.)

I had Miranda lead not one but two fireteams and had zero casualties, so if nothing else the game itself considers a loyal Miranda to be a good team leader. :P

Yet there was enough demand to have Garrus as a FemShep-only romantic option that they not only wrote and recorded extra dialogue for him but a whole inter-species romance side effects spiel for Mordin? Wow, that's not even a good attempt at dodging the issue.
On a completely unrelated note, I thought I was the only one who went for Doomed Kaidan Romance FemShep. Hi5, invented melodrama that the game doesn't even recognize pal!
