Hiller just saved the Swiss team.

And then the Swiss team almost scored shorthanded in overtime. Fuck this game is intense.

    Edit: Hiller saves them again!

Sweet. Canada-Russia women's curling tonight. I've been waiting to watch a commentated Russian women match, given that they seem to be curling their lights out lately. Too bad the Canadians have nothing to play for any more...

Its harder to dash their expectations if you don't place them high on a precarious perch.
Loss of the last 2 world championships, but win at the last 4-nations cup. Overall though, over the last 5 years, Canada has won the majority of matchups.
Yeah, just before the Olympics started someone had reported on the record between the two teams over the past few years and it had been in our favour. Wish I could find it now.

USA's 3rd relay member really sucked that up, turned a 0.3 lead into a 14.1 deficit. Down the anchors now, USA chasing Austria for gold in the Nordic Combined relay.

3 Canadian rocks in play, with the hammer... China's last shot gets sent right through. Easy draw for 4.

(Don't ask me why there are 3 Canadian rocks in play... but China's apparently playing with a new skip, subbing in their alternate?)

China's skip has had serious problems over the past week. It may be a move similar to the one the US made to swap out Schuster for Smith.

    Did it myself:

Last 5 Women's World Ice Hockey Championships:

U.S. leads in wins, five to four.

Canada has outscored the U.S., 19 to 18.

Way to go Sergei Kustitzen. Just rush the goalie, you're the only hope left for Belarus, lose the handle of your stick and run out of room.

    Bleh.

NICE. US anchor has all but erased Austria's 14 second lead, down to 2.2 secs halfway through the last leg. Hope he saved some gas for the final stretch.

    edit: he takes the lead!

ed2: now they're swapping places, talking to each other. 0.8km to go.

There are now 7 rocks within the 8 foot or better. 5 of those are Canada.

This game is going to end by the 4th end, I'm calling it.

Edit: 8 rocks now, 6 Canada.

Hiller is not a good option. Can the US borrow Franzen to run over him like he did in the playoffs last year?

Yea, he had to do something risky. It's not like he wasn't going to score one, so might as well go for the huge score for the crowd.

It looked to me like there was a shot on the left (as we looked down on the house) where he could hit his rock hard and that would take out both reds. Looks like he tried something else though, because the guard he hit was way off from where I thought he'd aim.

If he tried it on the right side of the house, he'd be cutting against the grain of what the current rocks were oriented (I think I know the shot you were talking about), meaning it'd have to curl quite a bit to get the correct angle in play.
