I am writing an email about a prospective job which I need to send out tonight. There is a word that is used internally at the company that is not a real word, which would help make it seem that I know what the hell I am talking about. I can not find this word online at all and have no way to know how to spell it.
I want to know whether it is appropriate to use the "sp?" in a formal email. I don't know if that is purely an internet slang type abbreviation and don't want to use any such language in the email.
Thanks in advance for the answer.

Shit, man. I would just write the word and if it's wrong it will look like you misspelled it. If you write "(sp)" you run the risk of looking inappropriate for the formal context and you also look unsure of what you're talking about, even if you get it right.
I am interested in the position advertised on craigslist to join your deceptocons (sp?). I am highly qualified for this as I am a robot who turns into a vehicle, and I am also evil. I've attached my resume for your review, and look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
the OP.

I'd be willing to bet that if you can't find it on teh intrenets, it doesn't exist. You probably just heard some pretentious jackass use it somewhere because he thought he was smart.
"At Gallipoli many azcaps were killed by the Turks. Later Mel Gibson made a movie about it"
I made it to the azcap part of my interview.
I'm probably just going to go with, I made it to the azcap(apologies if I've misspelled it) part of my interview. That should be formal enough, and allow me to mangle the spelling. Hell I don't even know if it has a proper spelling.

There is no other word and the definition is over two dozen words long. It doesn't matter though. I used Primus's original suggestion and am now finishing the email.
Thanks guys.

I would suggest writing the following:
"[word] (apologies if I've misspelled it)"
Rock Band DLC | GW:OttW - arrcd | WLD - Thortar
