Game of the Year 2010 Poll [VOTE HERE]

So every year since 2004 I have been doing a Game of the Year poll on this forum. And here's the poll for 2010:

There are a lot of Game of the Year polls out there, but the thing that makes this one interesting (in my opinion) is that although most GOTY polls just give you a list of maybe five of the best-selling games from the last year, and ask you to choose your favorite; THIS poll gives you a list of EVERY game that came out in the last year (more or less) and asks you to vote for [up to] your top 20, ranked by how much you liked them. Here's last year's poll results if you want to see how this works. We actually wind up with a serviceable ranking of the top hundred or so games from the last year, with blockbusters, obscurities and cult hits mixed in side by side.

I will run this poll until January 8 and then post the results.

When I made my list in the Christmas thread the other day, my mind completely blanked on VVVVVV because it's the only PC game I've ever dug, so I had to give that its rightful spot

Also, I feel a little bad, because I didn't get to play everything I'd have liked to. I just got Hot Pursuit and Kirby's Epic Yarn today, and I still want to give Deadly Premonition a shot.

And I was bummed that Dead Rising: Case Zero and Dead Rising: Case West didn't make the list after all, despite both of them being stand-alone titles. Case Zero would have made my top 20; Dead Rising 2 absolutely did not.

Wow. I didn't realize how much I've been playing games from 2009 and older. And I'm even more surprised that I actually had 10 games to vote on.

I specifically chose product that A) I own or played significantly with friends, and I played for more than 30 seconds. Thanks to the Steam sales I picked up quite a few games from this year, but didn't touch them.

I played more new games than this of course, but lots of my 2010 hopefuls (e.g. Metroid, Golden Sun, Reach) were disappointments. Other games (e.g. Hydro Thunder, Sonic & Sega Racing) were solid but unremarkable, and I wouldn't feel right putting those in a Game of the Year list. Not to mention, most of my favorite games this year weren't released in 2010. I'd vote for Defense Grid and Batman:AA if I could! But I can't say this was a bad year, because Mass Effect 2 and Just Cause 2 are easily some of my favorite games of all time.

I really need to put more time into Monster Hunter Tri and get Civ V, I bet those could have placed well. This year also gave me my personal two most disappointing games ever, Metroid: Other M and FFXIII. Hated them, and I wanted to love them so much.

The numerous, terrible, game breaking bugs I experienced single-handedly kept it from getting second place in my list too. I kind of feel like I should've voted with the new patches in mind, but in the end the experience of playing it at launch was hampered too much by deleted saves and broken quests.

I get the feeling that God of War 3 won't do so hot, but do give it a go PS3 owners, it really is an amazingly fun, polished, beautiful game.

Great year overall, I had a ton of fun.

Was there a big multiplatform game that came out that would be a contender? Uncharted was the first exclusive going down the list from last year from 1st.

But yes, RDR is probably the one to beat this year.

The PC version was probably the better of the two.

Also it had faster mineral scanning so that's the best reason right there.

Probably going to be the most Kinect-centric vote on the board :rotate:. High number of XBLA/XBLIG titles too . Going through the list made me realise - so many games which should have made my list I've not played yet (Super Meat Boy, Mass Effect 2, Assassin's Creed : Brotherhood, Red Dead Redemption especially.) Spent a large part of this year playing through the 2009 games. Some of the games on the Wii should have probably made their way into my list too, but again, not played yet. Certainly the best year so far for Wii releases which have interested me. On PS3 too - nearly voted for Heavy Rain but don't own it so... just not enough room on the list. Only 8 games in my top 20 are retail disks!

Also totally forgot about Pinball FX 2, didn't mention it in the recommendations thread, but that should have been in my top 10.

There are games on the PS3 especially I've enjoyed this year, had some good times with PS3 (Blue Toad Murder Files and Buzz are favourites of mine, also Heavy Rain) but I don't own one so... also not got a Wii, but like I said, certainly the strongest Wii showing as fare as my tastes are concerned this year, especially DKC. But even the 360 releases - my list is also missing most of the typical 'big guns' as far as the 360 is concerned (Super Meat Boy, Mass Effect 2, Red Dead Redemption, Bayonetta, Assassin's Creed : Brotherhood).

Most of my games this year have been XBLA/XBLIG, 2009 games, things which have not made the list, old games on Steam - and then a massive pile of Rock Band 2 - Rock Band 3, Monday Night Combat, Halo : Reach and Kinect stuff.

That's what happens when they actually put more effort into them

In years past, I think the only arcade games that placed on my lists were Pac-Man CE and Shadow Complex

This year I've got five to seven, depending if you want to count VVVVVV and Cut the Rope as that type of game (and I would)
