Aw man, why'd you have to go and desecrate this thread by mentioning that thing?
There are bigger maps available. We have mostly smaller to medium sized maps because we rarely have more than 4-5 people on the server at a time. There were at least 7 at one point tonight.
I'll be back on the server at 10:30 for the normal start time.

even with 4 to 5 people, there are some spawn telefrags happening, which is never good. seems like the maps on now are almost exclusively 1v1.
also, anyone know a good size to make a crosshair? im tired of the ugly one i cant see at all
Spawnfrags happen. I've had them happen messing around in 2 and 3 player games. The maps are smaller to keep the action fast and plentiful. If we consistently start getting higher turnout then I'll adjust the rotation to include larger maps. I agree that the maps felt small for the number of people we had, but again the rotation is currently setup to accomdate a small group of around 4.
Type "crosshairsize x" in the console, where x is any number between 0.2 and 8. There's a slider in one of the options menus that will change it as well, but I don't remember which menu it's under.
Glad people enjoyed themselves tonight. I think it was the most fun I've had so far. The sheer chaos was fantastic, but I can see why people might not enjoy it so much. The current plan is to make the two maps that survive this week's rotation the small, chaotic maps; the other 3 will be bigger and more suitable for a larger group of people. I'm doing the map voting thing again, so I need people to vote for their two favorite maps from tonight's rotation to use next week.
There was some talk of possibly doing Team DM next week if we get a similar turnout next week. Anyone else interested in this?

I'd like to keep the map with the walkway across the lava in rotation. Even though I hate frying in the lava that map is a lot of fun.
I had a great time, although I pretty much wore myself out by 10 and only played for one of the post 10:30 games. I'll have to be more patient next time!
Hopefully we can find some good maps for next week that are more suitable for 8+ players. This kind of turnout was really unexpected, and I know it can be quite frustrating to try to get a weapon and a decent chunk of armor off of spawn when the whole map is filled with combatants.
After playing a 1v1 with TelMarine with Quad mutually ignored, I checked the server configs and found a setting for just such purposes - now the big powerups (quad, pent, ring) won't spawn until there are 3 or more players on the server.
edit: I guess I should vote too - tridm3 and ztndm4 are my picks to stay in rotation.

I call that partially my fault on account of not being aware of the regular time. Sorry for drawing everyone's attention too soon.
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
Found another source port a couple days ago that looks interesting. I haven't had the chance to try it out thanks to being completely enthralled by DX:HR, but if someone wants to check it out and post opinions they're welcome to. Thinking I'll add it to the OP later after impressions are posted or I get the chance to try it out.
Map rotation starting tomorrow will be TriDM3, ZTNDM4 (these two are the returning champs), UKPAK5, BalDM3, and BalDM8. You can get the new maps off of the server, but if for some reason you're having trouble getting them then grab them here.

That port is awesome, will post more impressions soon.

Aside from some weird issues with water transparency it's pretty damn cool. It's kind of a Lo-Fi Quake with modern effects. It'll give you flashbacks to the DOS days, but run at a good framerate and has some nice modern effects. It won't be replacing ezQuake for online play in my case, but I can see myself having fun with some offline play on this source port.
If you get the weird water glitch you'll see all the level geometry if your view intersects with the plane of the water. You can fix it by cranking water opacity all the way up in the video options.
Huge points to that sourceport for the fisheye support (try r_fisheye 1, fov 90, ffov 220), but I think "Physics and movement fixes for a smoother experience" translates to "no bunnyhopping". Although as a Quake replacement rather than a QuakeWorld one I guess that doesn't matter much.
Server's back. Quake night for this week is rescheduled for Thursday (tomorrow) at 10:30PM ET. Quake night will resume it's normal Tuesday at 10:30PM date afterwards.

Hey Bullio, I hope to have the server back online at that time but I cannot say for certain. Tomorrow night at 5PM EST they are moving the server to a physical rack with APC support, so we can power cycle it remotely. They claim that once they move the box over its a quick 1 hr turn around, but you never know.
I'll have Idol update once we know when things will be popping. Sorry for the downtime I hope this will be the last of it. No likely though.

What's the best way to get Q2 running on Linux? A lot of these ports seem to be Windows only.

No idea. A quick Google isn't turning anything up, though I think there are
Our server is still down and it doesn't appear it will be up for tonight, so I've found a public that will at least be serviceable for tonight. Server name is "Quake-Legion.net (FODFFA)". I don't know what FODFFA is, but the rotation is comprised mostly of maps that people should be familiar with. Hopefully the server will be back for next week, or a makeup date later this week.
For anyone curious about the server-side demos, you can download them directly through your client (at least with ezQuake). Connect to the server, and type "cmd dlist" in console to view the list of demos saved. Find the number of the one you want to get, then use cmd dl <number> to get it. If, for example, if you want demo 155, use "cmd dl 155".
Once it's done downloading it you can play it from the demos menu.

I am considerably worse now, but it doesn't stop me from enjoying the old timey goodness.
I really should not be admitting that I'm USED to anything in daikatana.
