now, for your next trick could you explain the last mission to me? Snake infiltrated ocelot's boat to shoot a virus at the patriot satellite. The virus was written by Naomi/Sunny who was at one stage working with fuckcelot. At some stage naomi was working with ocelot. Why couldn't they have just posted the virus to him on his boat, instead of tricking snake into doing it?

    Uhhh.....
You know, I hadn't thought of that in depth.

Naomi only started FoxAlive, though, she never completed it. Sunny (and perhaps Octacon) needed to finish the virus, meaning that Naomi couldn't have just written the thing herself and given it to Ocelot. For Sunny to have worked on FoxAlive, Naomi needed to get into Philanthropy. Once she did that, it might not have been plausible to just walk back into Ocelot's den without raising suspicion, particularly if Ocelot had 'convinced himself' thoroughly of his role as Liquid (i.e. even he didn't know what his real intentions were, thanks to "drugs and autosuggestion"). Thus, the only option was for Snake to infiltrate and plant the virus himself.

I'm grasping at straws here, I admit. It's the first thing I could think of. Hopefully someone else can explain it better than I.

In the meantime, let me distract you with the be- LOOK OVER HERE!

Taking a closer look at the trophy/achievement list, somebody had some fun writing them.

    MGS3 smallish spoiler:
    Problem Solved, Series Over
    Create the Ocelot Time Paradox

Clearly the best one, right there.

Jumped into Peace Walker first, since I've already played the other two and it's the one I haven't gotten to. Am... not sure what to think here.

I'm definitely okay with the bite-sized mission structure, though the railroading can get really fucking arbitrary at times (just played through one of the early missions, where it won't let you down one of the paths because 'it's not part of the mission.' But looking at the map, it's actually the most direct way to the goal. Um... okay). The extremely stripped-down controls... definitely less okay with.

You can't move while prone, something that you could do as early as oh say THE FIRST ONE? REALLY???

The Mother Base management, however, is probably the least MGS-style element, though I don't think it's a bad thing. Reminds me alot of Valkyria Chronicles, actually, down to the weighing of various crew members' skills for squad assignment and upgrade setup, though it lacks the utterly brilliant XP distribution system.

So far the Fulton Skyhook recovery chute-thing is the highlight for me (there's something weirdly satisfying/supervillain-ish about knocking out unsuspecting soldiers, then abducting them with high-speed balloons to be 'converted' :D) and
Amanda seems pretty awesome (hopefully she'll break the MGS female curse of not getting to do shit, Boss of course being the exception that proves the rule).

Will see where this all goes.

the best thing about the fulton was that in portable ops, you recruited guys by knocking them out and sloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwllllllllyyyyy dragging them to spawn. you could recruit soldiers that were able to drag guys faster, but it still sucked bigtime.

I've played through MGS2 a ton of times. It was even my very first PS2 game. So it's no small thing to say I know most of the game inside and out.

This is the first time I ever noticed that Olga has a freakin' scar going over her face!

I think I'm officially sold on the whole "HD" revolution now.

If you think about Portable Ops, it was kind of creepy.

I don't think it's a spoiler, but just in case:
You drag enemy soldiers into your truck, where Campbell will then do "stuff" so that they join forces with you.

Campbell might as well be driving a white unmarked van, handing candy out. o_O

Anyway, just got to pick it up, about to dive into PW. Again. Looking forward to it, actually.

And awesome thing about the Fulton system in PW later on in the game:
    Carl. Gustav. Fulton. Rounds.

    Hell yes.

In Metal Gear, there's always an explanation, even if it's a stupid explanation. :P

The virus wasn't finished when Naomi left the group. Sunny had to finish the code with bits left over from Emma's GW programming. She also altered the computer virus so it wouldn't completely fuck up known civilization.

Ocelot is still a douche, he thought killing the present world information system and having unending chaos was good, a war torn world just like Big Boss wanted. He was willing to continue to fight Snake to keep up appearences and keep the Patriots distracted, but if Sunny hadn't switched the code for Snake, the world would still be in ruins.

If that makes it seem like Snake is just a tool of those above him... you're right. It's rather a big theme of Metal Gear that soldiers are always pawns, and face not only the torment of war, but are essentially puppets themselves. The best soldiers like the Boss and Solid Snake acknowledge this, but continue to do their best to change the world. The tragedy of Big Boss is he tried to break this system of control, and only made the world more chaotic and bloodthirsty. He says as much in the ending of 4.

PW is looking pretty darn good, all things considered. The tweaked controls are nice too, though it take some getting used to switching between PSP and PS3. The roll button in particular, which was mapped to the attack button on the PSP, but is now nicely as the X button on the PS3.

Transfarring seems to be good as well. Easily transferred my save from the PS3, which is then locked out until you transfar back in.

Is it recommended to play Portable Ops before Peace Walker? Or does PW pretty much ignore PO's existence? (I ask because I think I kept reading over and over that PW was a sequel to MGS3 with no mention of PO at all in previews.)

If you can play PO I'd recommend it, but if that requires buying a PSP or anything, meh, just quickly read the wiki or something. I enjoyed it, and a few things happen in the story, but don't put too much effort into playing it.

How easy would it have been to bring out MGS1 as well, I don't think it's too farfetched to expect a full hd remake and standalone of the first PS1 title.

They said it was too old to be worth it. I know there's a fancy PS3 HD collection comes with a code to download it from the PSN.

A full remake of all the MGS's with the MGS4 engine would probably be the best thing ever made. Ever

Chuck MG and MG2 in there and I'll agree. I tried playing them about 2 years ago and they're just a bit too old for me.

It says 1080p on the back of the box, but all 3 games are displaying in 720 for me and I can't force it any higher.

Not that it makes any difference at all, mind you.

MGS2 wasn't my first PS2 game, but it was the reason I wanted one. It took a few months of groveling, but I finally got my mom to agree to get me one for Christmas. Then since MGS2 came out in November the next year, she got me that for my birthday. I was in 10th grade at the time, and I was a pretty fat kid...and I ran a little over a mile home from school nonstop, because MGS2!!!!!!!!

Then I beat the tanker and got to Big Shell....

That goes down as one of the most shocking moments in gaming history. I have so much respect for the devs for doing it.
At first I was pissed. What the fuck, i'm not Snake anymore? I'm some whiny bitch who's only had VR training. But over the course of the game, you grow to like Raiden as he stops being a whiny bitch and starts being a bad ass. It takes all game though.

I think that's where everyone's "dislike" of MGS2 comes from. It took a couple playthroughs, but I came to accept Raiden as a suitable alternative to Solid Snake. Still my least favorite MGS game though :P

Of course, MGS3 came out and made everything alllllll better

You might've been even more pissed they hadn't changed it up for the US release.
In the original Japanese version, you started the game as Raiden, and the Tanker level was a flashback you played through much, much later in the game. There was no indication that you would play as Raiden at all from the pre-release media and ads, too, if I recall correctly, so a lot of people were expecting to be snake from the get go, and the reveal turns out to be Raiden. Personally, I think they should have preserved this, because when you meat "Pliskin" halfway through the game it's not as shocking. But then, I'm sort of in the minority about my opinions on MGS2. I think it has the greatest plot of all the games. Not in terms of comprehensibility, mind you, but in a post-modern self-analytical way. I remember sitting there in shock after beating the game, after going through that half-hour long codec call with JD. And then it hits me - From start to finish, Kojima was fucking with us all. That beautiful bastard.

Also, quick Transfarring question for anyone who can answer it: Is it possible to bounce between multiple PS3s? I'm going to be traveling soon, and I'm wondering if I can take a game from my PSP, play it at home on my PS3, then transfer it back to the PSP and repeat the process on a different PS3. I'm not sure if the lock-out is specific to one PS3 and one PSP, or if it allows multiple systems.
