it resides in the same area as The Goonies in my mind. There's an abundance of really, really, really annoying yelling/faux commotion, and most of the humor just falls flat for me. So I get annoyed at the terrible kid stuff and then not much else is funny to me.
It isn't as big of an offender as The Goonies, but it uses the same stuff. God, I hate that movie thought.

I was playing MMX at a friend's house a few months ago
he watched me beat it from start to finish (which takes about 45 minutes)

Do not mistake this as a plea for head-banging in sport, a defence of bullies, or a veiled anti-gay message. I have no particular fondness for gratuitous roughness in games, no time for bullies at all, and as a downtowner, I live surrounded by gay men, who, like most women, I adore as a group.
Goonies was kind of amusing. The bit at the end where they are playing the skeleton piano had some pretty silly music jokes that may not have been intended to be jokes.
I really like Love Actually and I should watch it again soon

To be fair I loathe Richard Curtis films because they are about the schmaltzy romantic lives of the (stereotypical) inner London upper middle class idiot. It's almost like he calculated their content to annoy me. I can see why people like them, I just personally can't stand them.
like they ground up some of the film reel and a man in a lab coat put it into a beaker of science fluid and swirled it around and the fluid turned green
