Wish I could have thrown my sisters in the oubliette and finished my war with Mauretania before that session ended. Oh well, should be able to do that pretty quickly next time.

We take a moment of silence to mourn the passing of Duchess Matilda of Tuscany, dead at the age of 70 and having ruled the nation of Tuscany for 50 years On the positive note, hooray random HRE change back to Limited Crown Authority!
As for Thursday, hopefully it's done by 10, but latest it could be is 10:30 which would suck
Woo Kingdom of Ireland. Boo the heir to the Duchy of the Isles (and possibly heir to Norway!) dying, as I had my heir betrothed to her.

I'm just happy Matilda decided to kick the bucket just moments after I conquered that territory in Croatia. Though now I have to build a land bridge through Baden to it.
Yep. My treasonous sisters can attend the renaming ceremony, then it's straight into the dungeons with them.

I'm surprised you had any troops left after all of that. Wouldn't all of Africa rising up and everything but your island declaring independence put a large dent in your standing armies? Or are you relying on mercs at this point?
I've got a pretty good personal levy in the Duchy of Sicily, but yeah I did hire a few mercs. Also I caught a break by capturing the Duke of Tunis almost immediately, which got that big chunk of valuable land back under my control.
Since they were conquered/cultural enemies/religious enemies, I'm guessing most of his levies were from Sicily/Apulia.

Yea, I was just thinking since you lost all of Calabria and a few of your other main provinces except for I think 1 on the main island that that was where most of your troops would normally have been coming from.
Thankfully, at the moment, I've only got counts and no duchies so if anyone does Rebel it's only going to be 2 provinces max. 4 more Italian provinces (3 after Aquilea falls) until I can form Italy!
Now the only question is what language to use. I guess I could go for faux-latin like Rogerium or something like that, but that's kind of lame.

Playing ahead (just 10 years forward from the current save) in our current game has some amusing and frightening results:
Ireland is winning its war against Scotland. I don't know what the fuck's going on in southern France but I'm sure Phyphor will be totally happy and not at all annoyed! Norway continues to collapse. Sweden declared war on the HRE because they are apparently idiots. Kent rebelled again (honestly at this point Pollo you should just give them their own tiny independent Duchy out of respect for sheer determination). Sicily recouped its territory after the myriad rebellions and switched to Africa (the AI likes to do this).
Meanwhile, and most disturbing, the HRE's projected expansion has it going absolutely haywire. First it declared war on Estonia and gobbled them up. Then it declared war on that place up near Sweden and Russia with a K twice to capture all of that (that's what brought Sweden to war with the HRE as they want their own province back). I expect if this continues that it will gobble up the rest of the Pagans in Scandinavia if not outright going for Sweden itself, as our HRE seems to be expansion crazed. Not to mention that everyone still loves the Emperor. He's both Just & Kind, with "The Just" title and I've yet to see a vassal of his below 50 -.-

I've been planning that bite for decades, darksun. It's going to happen. So sure, you can have some of the provinces Aragon took in that picture. Though it's a pity that we can't each gain provinces from a single war.
It'll either end earlier in which I'll be (hopefully) right on time, or it'll end right on 10 pm in which case I may be up to a half-hour late, which would suck.

I've got no problem starting late either (west coast time ftw). Busy busy day at work today, and being home, fed and ready to go right at the usual time might be a bit of a struggle.

Pictures!
Here's our current territory from players:
And here's a picture of how Toscana is doing:
As you can see, I've unified all of Northern Italy except for Ancona (which I was in the process of taking before their ruler up and died and ended the war prematurely) and Cremona which I'm leaving for now. I've also snatched a province away from Croatia simply because that was when the HRE instituted Medium Crown Authority and all my intra-HRE expansion was halted. I should also have that province currently sieged as part of Baden under my control within the year.
But this doesn't note the bumpy ride my rulers had. As noted above, Duchess Matilda (may she rest in peace) died passing the Duchy of Toscana to this guy:
I was happy with that guy. He had 2 sons, 3 daughters, a good wife. Alright he was Weak and Craven and Slothful but I was just getting over Short Reign. And then he got maimed -.- Naturally this was a death sentence and he died not long after. This was bad as I'm still in Gavelkind and wasn't at the point yet where I was going to shove my brother into a Bishopric. In fact, I was banking on the fact that my dude would live long enough to form Italy and not worry about Gavelkind splitting my empty up. But nooooo, he dies and my brother inherits the entire Duchy of Ferrara which consists of a good 6 counties including Venice. Here's the brother in question:
You'll note he's dead. See, I had about as good an army at this point as he did because of the split and I only had claim to one of his territories, so it would have been slow to get him back into my sphere. But then friendly old Lombardia mentions over vent he has a 50% chance with 8% detection of assassinating my brother. Poor thing, slit his own neck while skipping rope with friends. This has left me with my current ruler:
Much happier with him. I have a Princess in the HRE as a wife and good stats. I'm Slow because there's something going on in my dynasty. Seriously, my dead Brother was club-footed and I had a sister that was hunchbacked, my father was Weak and I think he had brothers that were club-footed or slow as well. Hopefully this guy lives for 40 more years so I can pump some kids out of him and form Italy.
So the current Queen of Norway is probably going to lose her claim, but if she maintains it, it's going to be inherited by one of my cousins. Who's now in-breeding with another cousin. His heir is actually inbred. Good times.

Huh.
Forming the Kingdom of Italy isn't far off for me in our MP game, which I knew and was expecting. What I was not expecting was that when I become king I apparently get bumped up to 2nd in line for inheritance of the HRE. That has some...interesting implications.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go slit the th...I mean, introduce myself to the 1st in line to the Emperor's throne to get to know him better.

Just gonna make it that much more awkward when it's time to declare independence.
And you'd probably need kill _any_ close male relative of the Kaiser to hit the #1 spot. HRE electors loooove them some Kaiser sons.

Funny thing that. Turns out our current HRE only has 2 5 year old sons.
And after forming Italy I noticed that one of my Plots was "Kill the oldest HRE son".

Oh well. I've typed this long, I can type until I get my adapter.
I don't mind starting a bit late
So your realm has problems.
Gavelkind succession forcing you to share with your idiot brother?
Got an heir waiting in the wings that's utterly unfit for the throne?
Then maybe you need to hire...the Cassassin.
For a highly affordable fee, this Cremonese Criminal will come to you.
He specializes in cleaning up dynastic messes and getting out clean.
So if your royal family tree is in need of a little pruning, you know who to call...
