I don't even call him Gaben, but I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would care as much as it seems you do that other people do call him that.

If I could change my gamertag to just be my name, I would
Fuck Gabe and Tycho, their names are Mike and Jerry
All this means is that you haven't chosen a Gamertag that's nearly cool enough
Or your real name sounds pretty awesome
Although yeah, I've never really referred to Mike and Jerry as Gabe and Tycho
They are the dudes that make those characters, they aren't those characters. Though I did used to wonder how much about those characters is autobiographical.

I see what you are saying, but Gabe and Tycho are actually pretty different from who Mike and Jerry really are. I could see why they would want to dissociate themselves from their characters in that respect. So that If nothing else, in a new comic thread or discussion on the comic its not being said that Mike is probably gay for more than just Spider-Man and that Jerry would fuck a giraffe or dog.
Screen names can be pretty stupid and I think a lot of people come to regret their own "handles" over time (hence the name changing thread being so popular, aside from the spectacle), but plenty of people just use nicknames or names they are comfortable using elsewhere. And at least most of the ones here aren't as obnoxious as say . . . most XBox Gametag names.
The biggest one for me are the guys that do Retsupurae, who are referred to as 'Slowbeef' and 'Diabeetus' and I feel like a goddamn moron explaining that to people or ever referring to them as that
