Now I want to share all of the "medical breakthroughs" my roommate has been going on about just to watch your head burst from all of the snake-oil being poured into it.
Just go 'Unng Ugh Uff argh' for a long time and inquire if the other wants to go to a more specific level of communication.

besides, real science has little clout in politics anyway
That is because America is shit.
I'll agree, however, that issues should be judged within their own context. I mean, viruses also have a natural origin, but nobody likes those.
Some viruses are beneficial!

I'm glad to see this thread has been going well in my absence.
Truth be told, I'm not a big fan of the QUILTBAG acronym.
It excludes pansexuals, sapiosexuals, autosexuals, fetishists...
And of course, straight people, possible the hardest to understand of us all.
I'd prefer "people with sexualities or genders or maybe both" because it all overlaps and it's impossible to be inclusive if you try to use a set of letters to indicate a spectrum.

This is part of why the fashion in which queer's reclamation has progressed is good
But honestly I also agree with Rachel to a degree insofar as it can still have negative connotations and elicit negative reactions
Personally I think we NEED an umbrella term but Queer might not be the end all

It baffles me that there are so many different terms, classifications, distinctions, whatever between different forms of sexuality. Who cares! It's just sex.

Lately I've been struggling to figure out how important kink is in the larger scheme of my sexual identity.
like, do I want a boyfriend or a dom? Ideally, both, but I don't know how to broach it from either side. (Although I'm reticent to date right now, anyway, since I'll be going away for almost half the year and then might be moving permanently at some point after that, and have no idea where.)

It's not, though
it's life. Someone's sexual or gender identity can very easily colour every aspect of their life.
Being transgender is an obvious example, but imagine being genderqueer or intersexed and dealing with literally every person you try to talk to wondering or asking which pronouns they should use.
Imagine being gay or lesbian and wanting to introduce your partner to people in a social setting.

Even just looking at the sex aspect, different terms are helpful for describing what sort of sex you're into ya know, even if that sex is "all the sex"

that's not the explanation this thread needs but it's the explanation this thread deserves
just so long as we're on the same page then.

The thread isn't just about sex. Gender Identity plays a mayor part and the two aren't always logically linked.
