similar trappings (turn based, hit buttons at right times to boost attacks) but it's a lot simpler (parties are just mario and one partner)

they are also charming and amusing as hell

The Paper Mario games are fantastic.

and this was just a couple years ago! Still tons of fun.

And then they had to fuck up the games that came after it.

I'm not counting Starfox Adventures, since that was supposed to be a different game anyway, and it's perfectly fun for what kind of game it is.

But man, Starfox Assault was just a giant poopy poop.

I remember Starfox Adventures as being pretty decent, and then immediately after beating it I opened up Metroid Prime and forgot everything about Starfox Adventures.

Yeah, it was a pretty average action-adventure game.

But even as a dumb teenager I was put off by how the game treated Krystal, especially since I knew about what the game was originally intended to be.

    "apolitical"

you know the world's fucked when you can't say "hey, maybe we should all stop discriminating against, oppressing, and killing non-heteronormative individuals" without it being taken as a fucking political statement

"Stop discriminating" is necessarily a political statement when the people discriminating are the ones with all the social clout and political capital
