Although I love the idea of recognizing Khoo as an important part of PAX, but I don't feel that it fits in with the general idea that this side of the coin should depict something unique to the city.
Of the ideas suggested so far, I'd have to say that I like the Mount Rainier idea best.

@Serenity, I think it might be best to go with something that is recognizable to non-locals. It unites us all to have things nearly everyone knows, or at the very least, recognizes.
That is a pretty cool looking statue though.
- Biting's excellent! It's like kissing. Only there's a winner.

I like the Khoo or Jerry or Mike profile idea, but I think it might be better as the theme side of the design (the board game theme this year) and keep the other side Seattle. I don't feel like we've expended enough themes or Seattle sites to justify breaking tradition just yet. That to say, I love the idea, but Rainer fits the bill.
Found a great image that has the QWest building in front of the mountain.
Also another suggestion if we're looking to put a person on the coin, how about the Lenin Statue in Fremont?
I'm leaning toward the Mt. Rainier idea. Having the stadium in front of it should be fine I think, just remember it's CenturyLink Field now, not Qwest Field. If that even matters, doubt it would show up on the coin anyway.
An idea posted in the past (not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread because I haven't looked through it all) would be the Fremont Troll. That would probably be my next favorite option. The monorail is fine too though.
I'd love to use something like the King Dome, that was a huge Seattle landmark until they imploded it. Maybe some other year when we use up all the other big ones. :P
As for putting a face on the back of the coin, Khoo or anybody else, that's something I don't support. The theme has always been to show some kind of local landmark, or some part of the city's history, or just the convention center itself. Using a statue, like Lenin or Paul Revere, is fine, but that's about as far as I'd go.
Alright the mountain idea and ferry that @Dreamwriter posted is pretty awesome. I suppose it's better then my idea, I suppose it is actually real cool and I wish I had said that instead lol.
Rainier is always a good choice. I see you guys are throwing around ideas of stadiums. The University of Washington just rebuilt its football stadium and the first game is coincidentally August 31, during PAX weekend. It has one of the most beautiful stadium settings in the country.

Here are some mock ups:
Monorail V01:
Ferry V01:
These are of course just very rough to get an idea of what it might look like.
If people like these ideas we could vote for one, or we could keep looking.
While I love the look of the monorail, I'm not sure how well it will translate to an impression on the coin (Feels like it might need too much detail)...However the ferry looks sweet & get my vote!

So far, I do like the monorail, but then again, because I spend 4 (now 5) days a year in Seattle, I don't know which is really more significant. I have a sneaking suspicion the ferry really is where it's at.

I like both, prefer the monorail, but neither really scream or even say Seattle to me.
I'm assuming the background of the monorail is the EMP museum but tbh it just looks like a monorail going by a building. Not sure what we're allowed to use since it was signed by someone but I really loved @zeromyst s monorail picture. It showed the monorail and the space needle something exclusive to Seattle.
I have the same non recognition issue with the mount Rainer one. I liked the original picture with everything in it, but the cropped version is just a boat on the water with a mountain in the background. TBH just writing this I can think of a couple places in CA that could represent.
Like I said though I do prefer the monorail idea especially if we can use the picture @zeromyst posted. If we can't I'd like to try and see us identify mount rainier as mount Rainier.
If we are going just off these I do vote for the monorail

Yeah we would have to track down the author and ask permission. It is a nice illustration. (with the distinguishable Space Needle in the background)
Honestly I'm fine with either the monorail or the ferry. I'll try to hunt for some more images (under a Creative Commons license) this week.
The monorail shot used in that mockup actually looks really cool. :P
The issue I have with the ferry/Rainier mockup is that it looks very plain and generic; it looks like any old boat at any old place in front of any old mountain. There's also a lot of white space to the top and bottom of the design.

When will voting for this round end? I love stalking the results.
It will depend on how voting goes over the next day. If there is a clear favorite then I will end the voting, but if it close I will extend it out a little further.
As i take the light-rail to get to pax, and not the ferry, I find the Mono-rail to be more representative.

The Ferry currently has a nice lead (20 vs 14), but it is not a runaway.
So, I will set the deadline to vote for this Thursday at 10:00am Pacific time.
We are coming up on a deadline next week. May 17th is when I would like to have our first draft sent to PCC and get a mock up from them.
Voted for the rail and EMP because Mt. Ranier just didn't look as majestic as it ought to. With the ferry in front of it, the backdrop mountain appears as more of a tall hill than an iconic mountain. Maybe that's just the perspective or scaling.
I'm a little confused. Are we putting colors on the coins this year? I've always liked the simplicity of the bare metal. In other news, I think the ferry looks awesome.

No color.
As previously stated, these images are just to get an idea of what it would look like. Once the theme is decided on then we will create the final artwork.

The monorail coming out of EMP might be cool.
