Well that's kind of embarassing. Fortunately we get some good news from the science labs to counter our shame.
All right, shiny new armour! We'll just send the plans down to engineering and get Dr. Shen to knock us up a few sets...
God dammit Dr. Shen.
The Overseer ship shows up again, and once more we fail to shoot it down. But then a small UFO appears over Canada and we vent our frustration on that instead. Hopefully we can figure out how to take the Overseer craft out (paint go-faster stripes on the Firestorms?), but in the meantime - let's go get some elerium.

Intermission Base Report
Shortly after that mission the council report rolls around. They're not too impressed.
Personally I think that's grossly unfair. We didn't let three UFOs escape, that was the same UFO escaping three times!
Dr. Vahlen completes her latest research project - the alloy cannon. I thought this was going to be a thing you put on your planes but apparently it's more like an awesome shotgun?
I think Fuzzbutt and Rank would probably love one of these. Unfortunately I want to research plasma cannons for our fighter craft and I don't have enough elerium to do both, so they're going to have to wait. I do have enough elerium left over after starting plasma cannon research to make a single set of Titan armour, so I do, because there's no point trying to hold onto it as it'll just degrade. Second Wave, everybody!
So, a few days later
Hooray! Only we can't actually build any, due to - you guessed it - lack of elerium.
Also we can't do any more research. So I guess all the science guys just get to take some time off.
This is hilarious/annoying because I have TONS of money now. But no sodding elerium! Fortunately a few days later we detect a large UFO over Canada (again. Why are they all going to Canada suddenly?) Large craft means lots of elerium, hopefully.
Squad Two should be up. But they're not, because I decided I want to get some of my mid-ranked soldiers promoted up a bit if I can, so that I'm not screwed if I suddenly lose a couple of my older vets. So all the highest-ranked guys under Major are going on this one.
I'm sure they'll be fine. They have six medkits, that's a medkit each, nobody is going to die.
Macky gets our only heavy plasma as she has much better aim than Alagant, and Alagant has two rockets versus her one. And Murderbot, being the most likely to run up and smash her face against a muton, gets to try out our snazzy new Titan armour.

So that was mission 30, which means it's time for another report on our soldiers. As before, ability key under the spoiler.
Sniper abilities
HS: Headshot - Fire a shot with +30% critical chance and extra damage on critical hits based on the tech level of the sniper rifle. 2 turn cooldown.
SS: Squadsight - Allows firing at targets in any ally's sight radius. The targets still need to be in the line of sight for the sniper, but out of his range of sight.
Gs: Gunslinger - Confers 2 bonus damage with pistols.
DS: Disabling Shot - Disables the target's weapon; weapon can be fixed using a reload action.
BS: Battle Scanner - Throw an item which grants extended visibility for 2 turns; 2 uses per mission.
Op: Opportunist - Removes the sniper rifle's aim penalty on overwatch shots and allows them to cause critical hits.
LP: Low Profile - Half cover functions as full cover.
ITZ: In The Zone - Killing a flanked or out-of-cover enemy does not use up an action.
Heavy abilities
FR: Fire Rocket - Fire a rocket that does 6 damage. This ability cannot be used after moving, nor more than once per mission.
HT: Holo-targeting - Shooting at or suppressing enemies also confers a +10 Aim to any allies' attacks on those enemies.
BS: Bullet Swarm - Firing the primary weapon as the first action no longer ends the turn.
SR: Shredder Rocket - Fire a rocket that causes all enemies hit to take +33% damage from all sources for the next 4 turns. The rocket's blast is weaker than a standard rocket's.

Assault abilities
RG: Run & Gun - Allows firing or Overwatch after Dashing on the turn Run & Gun is activated. 2 turn cooldown.
Ag: Aggression - Confers +10% critical chance per enemy in sight (max +30%).
TS: Tactical Sense - Confers +5 Defense per enemy in sight (max +20).
LR: Lightning Reflexes - The first reaction shot taken against this soldier each turn automatically misses.
CP: Close and Personal - +30% critical chance against adjacent targets.
RF: Rapid Fire - Take two shots against a single target in quick succession. Each shot carries a -15 penalty to Aim.
Fl: Flush - Fire a shot that forces the target to move; high chance to hit but reduced damage.
CCS: Close Combat Specialist - Grants an automatic reaction shot against any enemy which closes to within 4 tiles, without the need for Overwatch.
EC: Extra Conditioning - Grants bonus health dependent on the type of armour equipped.
Support abilities
SG: Smoke Grenade - Deploy a smoke grenade once per mission. The smoke confers +20 defense to all units, not just allies, and lasts during the enemy turn.
Sp: Aprinter - Allows the support to move 3 additional tiles.
FM: Field Medic - Carry 3 medkits instead of 1.
Rv: Revive - Return critically injured soldiers to 33% health instead of just preventing their death.
DS: Dense Smoke - Smoke Grenades have increased area of effect and confer an extra +20 defense boost.
DP: Deep Pockets - Grants the soldier an additional inventory slot.
Psi Abilities
MF: Mind Fray - Basic psi attack. Does 5 damage and gives penalties to the targets aim, will and mobility. Lasts two turns; robotic units are immune.
Ins: Psi Inspiration - Removes Mind Fray and panic from all allies within 3 tiles, and strengthens their will by +30 for 2 turns.

The Overseer ship shows up again, and once more we fail to shoot it down. But then a small UFO appears over Canada and we vent our frustration on that instead. Personally I think that's grossly unfair. We didn't let three UFOs escape, that was the same UFO escaping three times!
Dr. Vahlen completes her latest research project - the alloy cannon. I thought this was going to be a thing you put on your planes but apparently it's more like an awesome shotgun?
I think Fuzzbutt and Rank would probably love one of these. Unfortunately I want to research plasma cannons for our fighter craft and I don't have enough elerium to do both, so they're going to have to wait. I do have enough elerium left over after starting plasma cannon research to make a single set of Titan armour, so I do, because there's no point trying to hold onto it as it'll just degrade. Second Wave, everybody!
So, a few days later
Hooray! Only we can't actually build any, due to - you guessed it - lack of elerium.
Also we can't do any more research. So I guess all the science guys just get to take some time off.
This is hilarious/annoying because I have TONS of money now. But no sodding elerium! Fortunately a few days later we detect a large UFO over Canada (again. Why are they all going to Canada suddenly?) Large craft means lots of elerium, hopefully.
Squad Two should be up. But they're not, because I decided I want to get some of my mid-ranked soldiers promoted up a bit if I can, so that I'm not screwed if I suddenly lose a couple of my older vets. So all the highest-ranked guys under Major are going on this one.
I'm sure they'll be fine. They have six medkits, that's a medkit each, nobody is going to die.
Macky gets our only heavy plasma as she has much better aim than Alagant, and Alagant has two rockets versus her one. And Murderbot, being the most likely to run up and smash her face against a muton, gets to try out our snazzy new Titan armour.

LR: Lightning Reflexes - The first reaction shot taken against this soldier each turn automatically misses.
CP: Close and Personal - +30% critical chance against adjacent targets.
RF: Rapid Fire - Take two shots against a single target in quick succession. Each shot carries a -15 penalty to Aim.
Fl: Flush - Fire a shot that forces the target to move; high chance to hit but reduced damage.
CCS: Close Combat Specialist - Grants an automatic reaction shot against any enemy which closes to within 4 tiles, without the need for Overwatch.
EC: Extra Conditioning - Grants bonus health dependent on the type of armour equipped.
Support abilities
SG: Smoke Grenade - Deploy a smoke grenade once per mission. The smoke confers +20 defense to all units, not just allies, and lasts during the enemy turn.
Sp: Aprinter - Allows the support to move 3 additional tiles.
FM: Field Medic - Carry 3 medkits instead of 1.
Rv: Revive - Return critically injured soldiers to 33% health instead of just preventing their death.
DS: Dense Smoke - Smoke Grenades have increased area of effect and confer an extra +20 defense boost.
DP: Deep Pockets - Grants the soldier an additional inventory slot.
Psi Abilities
MF: Mind Fray - Basic psi attack. Does 5 damage and gives penalties to the targets aim, will and mobility. Lasts two turns; robotic units are immune.
Ins: Psi Inspiration - Removes Mind Fray and panic from all allies within 3 tiles, and strengthens their will by +30 for 2 turns.
Not going to be the MVP, but when the war ends and the world inevitably falls into a post-apocalyptic society, I am basically going to be king badass.
