YO! [MTG] WRAPS [Sealed League Week 2, last day to turn in results is SATURDAY]
I never really got how that game worked, though the art was usually cool

So I saw some modern master for sale. Figured why not.
First pack I got Oona, black and blue fae lord. I was excited and thought she was worth bananas. Nope, five dollar card.
Fooey. Well, try it again.
Dude reaches way back for a pack. Almost suspiciously. I say "no, I want the one where the dude is breakin' dem chains."
He obliges.
And inside is the Verdillion Clique.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
You mean Vendilion Clique? My google-fu suggests you do.

basically you have a deck, minimum 60 cards, maximum 4 of with the exception of "unlimited" cards (unlimited is basically the Relentless Rats type)
you also have a Hero card that starts the game on the field and isn't part of your deck. your hero has X number of life points. this is how many life points you the player have. when your hero takes damage equal to or greater than their life points you lose
other than that it's basically magic: spells, monsters, abilities, "artifacts". the big changes are the "any card can be a resource" system and the fact that because resources aren't colored cards are frequently typed so that they can only be used in decks w/ certain heroes
example: a horde ally can only be used in a deck with a horde hero. equipment is class-based, it'll show what class decks it can go in
the other big change is damage stays on creatures. they don't lose life they gain damage. when damage meets/exceeds life, they're gone

it's also hella cheap compared to magic
i'm thinking of buying singles to make a halfway decent Contemporary (modern) deck
it's basically a tribal weenie deck
for 49 of the 61 total cards, thirty bucks after shipping
that makes more sense when someone spells it out for me. resources was the part I was REAL confused about at first glance
for resources you have Quests, which you play face-up. Quests have a "complete quest" condition on them, usually pay X resources and maybe do Y on the same turn, and then a reward
but! if you're really boned on quests you can play any card facedown as a resource
but you can't turn it face-up and play it later
so you can maybe throw down that one big seven drop as a resource and eke out a few cheapos buuuuuuut that bomb isn't going to be there later
also all of the hero cards are double-faced and have an ability that involves flipping the card to the cool full-art backside
hero cards are cool

speaking of non MTG card games, kaijudo is actually kind of fun.
kaijudo fucking rules
Still bitter they cancelled the game originally. I got an invite to Continental Champs the year they cancelled it, and I even made the trek to Charleston, SC to play in it. Well, I was jusssst too young to go alone so my grandparents took me. Great memories from that trip.
jgeis on

one night at work my boss realized that another employee was going to have to do a Learn 2 Play event for kaijudo despite not knowing how to play it
so we cracked a couple starter decks and he ran the two of us through a few games
we ended up spending the rest of the night playing and i volunteered to run the thing because the game rules

only I can pull multiple dollar rares consecutively in that set of all things

I'm not ragging on Planeswalkers, honest.
I'm just saying, with the reveal of this new Garruk.... I'd honestly have rather had Primal Hunter stay in Standard.
