It's not necessarily my favorite game of the generation, but team fortress 2 is probably the game that best exemplifies what games have become over the course of this generation
TF2 was beaten by Red Dead in the first round by over 30%

Economic experiments? Hedge funds? Mired in ancillary bullshit like hats?
two major things TF2 added that basically represent the trends of this gen:
Achievements/other progression stuff. This is pretty self-explanatory, we learned we like the constant sense of getting better even when it's for having been blown up by a crocket.
And yeah, the hat stuff. Business models don't include games now so much as games themselves are starting to develop their own.
Not to speak of the rebirth of competitive FPS play, steam sales, and so on

brrrr incorrect thats wrong
no RDR is probably a better game
but TF2 is the game I'll think of the most when asked to describe what happened to games this gen
Also ragging on CoD4 for military worship is kinda what the hell because I remember that game being subversive as shit.
not... really? i mean, one dude does get blown up by a nuke, which was a neat idea at the time, but the overall tone is "hoo-rah, soldiers!"
and the sequels, of course, are just straight-up propaganda
I think it mostly comes through in those death screen quotes
Over the course of the game they get more and more cynical until they're literally quoting Dick Cheney
And then also there's the end of the game where you've done so much and lost so many friends and the government you did it all for is just going to cover it up and give you nothing in return
I believe you're actually saved by the Russians in the end

Most of the problems were created by the "good guys", anything the Americans do is pretty much a constant clusterfuck, there's that whole cold, detached gunship sequence, and the climax of the game involves everyone unceremoniously dying until you're saved by the Russian guy Price emasculates in the first level.

Killzone is kind of the 3 Star-iest franchise out there, so that makes sense
I don't know if any of them besides the first one are bad, but none of them are great
I really liked Killzone 2 but even I wouldn't call it great
Good enough for a console that had another year to go until Bad Company 2, I guess

I hear 3 is meh
It's also a prime example of how to do F2P right
game of the generation is hard
littlebigplanet 2 maybe? or maybe rock band?
those are probably the two games I played the most, at any rate

Bwad Shoemaker himself said on his tumblr that it could be better than Brothers.
And we all know about Brothers.

Who is going to argue the game that brought this isn't the game of the generation
rdr was boring and I couldn't finish it
