Totally! That's half the reason I couldn't enjoy the Wii Donkey Kong game (Land? World? New Donkey Kong? I don't remember the name). That and "shake your controller for super jumping precision".
retro isnt using the kremlings but nintendo uses them in places

Nope. There's been pictures of the hole that Ridley created during his boss fight in other m, which some people have taken to mean he'll occasionally fly through it to bug you, but there haven't been any actual pictures of Ridley.

Brawl had some neat hidden mechanics too.
Did you know that you could increase your grab range by a lot by doing it right after you pivot? Combine that fact with the super-armor you get from a grab that hits as you are hit, and Sonic is hilariously effective as a grabber against the unaware.

I find the Fire Emblem assist trophies to be unlikely.
Scrapping a fan favorite from a game with a major impact on the series in favor of a couple not particularly popular baddies who do basically the same thing just doesn't seem to have a reasonable angle.

Lyn's been on one game that came out 11 years ago, it makes sense to replace her with characters from a much more recent and highly popular entry in the series

Also yes Gihrahim is played-straight Gays Are Evil but he's still one of the better new Zelda characters. Everyone in SS had tons of personality and Gihrahim was near the top there.

hes the humanod form of the main villain's sword, and is a counterpart to Fi, the spirit that lives in the master sword
Liberation is broken in so many fundamental ways. I dunno, maybe they fixed it up for the HD version? The Vita version is barely holding together as a coherent piece of game.

He's the evil counterpart to Fi. He's also basically a computer haunting a sword, and that sword is the evil version of the Master Sword.
Knowing this, literally everything he says makes sense as something an Evil Fi would say.

The white armor is straight up broken. Missed the secondary weapons, but 10 first aid kits is a lot of extra health.

Little Mac was considered for Brawl but rejected because Sakurai 'Couldn't think of enough variation in his moves.'
Then again, the Villager was considered too but they couldn't figure out any moves for him.
And Ridely he has said generation after generation is just too big. To which I say fooey. Make him like Charizard.
Finally, the best possible change I could see would be to play as Squirtle as a standalone. Squirtle is the best character in brawl, bar none.
I think they're both by far the most likely newcomers, Chrom being more likely than Little Mac.
