Yes, but that's because LOTR did it first you see

Always something to keep in mind.

Man, the Norse had stories about Ragnarok over twelve hundred years ago.

I mean, LotR might be responsible for most "magic dying" stories nowendays, but it, itself, was inspired by stories of all the gods dying and humans inheriting Yggdrasil.

    Quick, who is this?

    Oh right, Mission Impossible.

I was wondering why they had two Americans starring in a film about the British intelligence agency.

What's the context of that clip supposed to be?

    Scrubs spoilers
In that episode, an old friend of Dr. Cox comes to visit, but it turns out he has a bad case of leukaemia (I think, it's been a while). Anyway, throughout the episode, Cox keeps telling him how he's gonna make it, everything will be fine, ect.

Until that scene, where JD snaps him out of it and it turns out they're at the guy's funeral and Cox was in denial the whole time.

    So they pulled a MASH?

no, Gone Girl fits the schlock criteria pretty well

as does most of Hitchcock's work

it's a pot-boiler, and pot-boilers are generally considered trashy no matter how good they are

I guess I haven't heard shlock used that way

Usually I hear it used as cheap or inferior

Like, specifically bad or of poor quality, not just trashy or kitschy

well maybe trashy is a better word I don't know. I don't mean it as a good or bad thing, more the type of story that it's telling, it's not a great descriptor but I aint thinking of a good one. To see if anyone else said similar I've just typed gone girl schlock into google and got this

"It's schlock, but it's the Mozart of schlock"
