dao on nightmare is absolutely trivial if you abuse the right things
on my warrior i just had an auraslave mouge with haste and stacked all the ele damage auras, used the warden dlc attack speed upgrade thingy with 2-handers and literally autoattacked things to death in seconds. using special moves lowered my dps because game design
on my mouge its uhh
any enemy with mana gets 1-shot by mana clash
any large single enemy gets 1-shot by entropic death
any group gets 1-shot by storm of the century or just infinitely cced by dumb aoe cc spam (hi blood magic)
the only need to control other characters is when you want to kill the dragons in 3 seconds you need to get them to cast death hex for entropic death triple hit

You're confusing the dissonance between the values of Good for Greek society (which Achilles very clearly fits) with the value of good for modern society, against the definition of hero.
A hero does good for good reasons. An anti-hero does good for bad, amoral or accidental reasons.
You could argue that I'm comparing the values of good in the w40k universe to our modern day values, but that's a lot iffier because unlike Greece, which was a real culture, w40k is an invented property, intended to be viewed by current cultural standards.

our old tax guy was great at getting us money back. we literally got like 10k once because we gave significantly to charity in a year when we worked massive amounts of overtime the whole year. he gets us money back every year. i really hate having to get a new tax guy but...
see the problem is we were consistently giving to charity for several years in a row, around 10% of our income and he was always happy to see us and congratulate us on that. but we haven't been doing that for the last 2 years. last year we had the excuse that i had been out of work. this year we have no real excuse and are embarrassed to have to talk to him about it. also every year he is like no luck on atlanta yet huh? no kids yet?
last year the whole process felt pretty humiliating. i mean he didnt *say* anything but we both imagined he was judging us and our shame was real. soooo real.

There were spells that added elemental damage to your weapons in DA:O. They only applied on auto-attacks. They applied flat damage per strike.
You maximise this by only auto-attacking, as fast as possible (e.g. hasting the party) with these aura spells in effect (iirc they stacked, so you had several different elemental damages on the weapon attacks).
For mages:
Mana was generally higher than health for mages, so mana clash dealing damage generally killed enemy in one or two casts.
Entropic death was a combo spell that did very high flat damage. You combined it with several % damage multipliers (can't remember their names, but they're also in the death tree, and maybe a glyph) to do damage that is over a 1000 several times to enemies inside (normal damage values were a factor of 10 lower).
Storm of the Century you get by combining all three big elemental storms. Most enemies in the game cannot save against hard crowd control (cone of cold, and the blood mage specialisation ability that freezes everyone in the area). So you get enemies into a choke point, freeze them, drop SotC on them, and keep them frozen with another AoE CC spell (iirc, you could do a small rotation of the Blood Mage spell > CoC > Blood Mage spell again to keep them stunned for about 10-15 secs).

mages have these dumb fucking combos where if you cast 2 spells you get nonsense damage
example: if you cast death hex on an enemy inside death cloud, they take nonsense levels of damage (1000+), and that damage is based off the mage who casted death cloud's spell power (so if you have 2 buffbot mages in the party with crappy spell power, they can cast death hex and you get a repeat performance off the stupid damage). i killed every dragon inside a few seconds with it
another one is storm of the century - you just cast 2 of the aoes and they combine into a huge fuck you storm which one shots everything. when you combine this with the easy availability of aoe cc in the form of cone of cold and the blood magic aoe stun it is literally faceroll. and also any enemy in the game that has a mana bar is instantly killed if you cast mana clash on them
the autoattack thing is a basic problem with the way they implemented abilities in dragon age - abilities dont get bonus elemental damage, autoattacks do. so if you have mages who are all running aoe elemental damage auras on weapons, you can stack all the auras on your autoattacker, give them a haste buff and an attack speed buff, and their autoattack dps completely destroys their ability dps - so you just toggle on a bunch of stamina reserving passives and wreck everything. its greataroonie
