Spent a lot of time in the bandcamp mines over the last few days to unearth a few more great albums
Nocturnal Departure
Old school black metal from Canada. This shit is fierce and and the album does a great job with sequencing between some of the more high energy tracks and the slower cuts.
Sitting at the crossroads between black, thrash, and crust, this band is cutting deals with many devils. The songs are all incredibly tight, high energy, fun, and the vocals, particularly on the title track, make this ep a standout.
Everything Hellripper has put out is worthy! Coagulating Darkness, their last album, is even better than that mighty EP. His compilation is also great, with all the old demos.

Damn, you weren't kidding.
Anneliese (and it's delicious outro/coda) off that album is now one of my favorite BM tracks of the last 5+ years.

I once listened to that song like a half dozen times in a row on a car ride. It's fantastic.
Have you listened to Deathhammer yet? Pretty much a guarantee you'll dig them if you dig Hellripper. And imo Antichrist from Sweden is better than both of them.
The blackened speed/thrash/heavy sub-genre is one of my absolute faves.
It’s blackened doom I guess? It’s like Bell Witch’s Mirror Reaper but shortened by a third and split into three songs.
Descendant X on

I don't know how I've never listened to Angel Witch before, but thanks for that. Also, tangentally, for introducing me to the art of John Martin - they used one of his paintings for their first album cover.

I randomly decided to check out PledgeMusic today. Maybe there's a new reissue for a band coming out like what they did with Kreator last year?

Totally listen to their classic s/t debut album with all the extra tracks! For me it's the best heavy metal album of 1980 and still holds up.

All I had heard by Angel Witch prior to the above song was their self-titled song in Brütal Legend. I didn't actively seek them out because traditional metal wasn't really my thing back then, but the chorus stuck in my brain.
There's this video going around of about 1000 people at coachella bobbing their heads to one of the new Tool songs. It was so unintentionally ironic that at first I thought it was a Hard Times article.
If you're digging on all that new post-black metal, the new Foscor might tickle your navel a bit. They've always been pretty good, this album continues the evolution.
Also it might just be me, but the new Mgla and Atlantean Kodex records are putting me to sleep.
Weird little glitch stuff interesting, total solar metal
I get it that people think liturgy are “hipsters” or think their manifesto was tryhard even though it accurately described their sound, but anyone who blows off a track like “mysterium” is not someone whose opinions on BM I’d take seriously

I remember not liking Liturgy in the past, but that was a while back. I’ll have to give them a listen when I get back in wifi range.

Uh, nope. The site's just....gone.

Kind of a shame, I got Delain's Live at Paradiso through them; the band also said it wouldn't have been possible to do without PM's model.

And the new Shock Narcotic, which came out a couple of weeks ago is some vicious grindcore.

The single they've had up on Bandcamp for a bit wasn't great but this new album I can definitely appreciate.

Looks like they got the same guy who's been doing the Opeth videos.
I like the song.
