In playing tom Clancy games I usually find their politics amusingly by-committee bland compared to their actual reputations whereas a lot of shooters considered unpolitical can be frankly much more problematic (CoD etc)
The politics by-committee means there is a ton of extremely problematic stuff. The substanceless rah rah American patriotism mixed with "boo rules and corrupt government people getting in our way" and "it is A-OK to kill these drug smugglers, brown people, etc." stuff is both bland and problematic.
It is like how Farcry 5's nihilism is the result of playing it safe.
I guess we would have to start taking specific games here because this does not describe Division 1 or the parts of Division 2 shown thus far at all
Ghost Recon wildlands had zero American patriotism, but you did kill drug smugglers at the behest of the local government
Rainbow six is just “stop the bomb or free the hostage” most of the time
Farcry’s cavalier attitude towards depictions of torture and the games’ general tenor overall strike me as a hundred times more gross than Tom Clancy games of the last few years
The Splinter Cell games had a thing about the government agent Sam Fischer being able to break any law for the greater good of the American people because America. When some government people turn out to be evil, it is not intended to be an indictment of the system but merely the wrong people being in control of it.
Noah Caldwell-Gervais did a good review of Wildlands.
One particular mission highlighted Wildland’s moral flippancy. I was tasked with killing one of Santa Blanca's priest figures, who was preaching in a church populated by two dozen heavily armed soldiers. I flew an explosive drone right up the main aisle and blew it up; no one knew what hit them.At first I thought, "I'm pretty smart for using a drone here." Then I realized: "Holy shit, I just used a drone to massacre people at church."
The entire plot of working for the CIA to kill drug smugglers with murder porayed as an effective means is like a lot of 1980's style jingoism.
The game takes place in Bolivia in July 2019. The country has become increasingly unstable as a Mexican drug cartel known as the Santa Blanca Cartel gains more power and influence within the country and turns Bolivia into the world's largest producer of cocaine. The United States government is compelled to act when a bomb targets the American embassy in La Paz and undercover DEA agent Ricardo "Ricky" Sandoval is executed by the cartel. A Ghost Recon fireteam is deployed to Bolivia as part of Operation Kingslayer, a joint operation between the CIA, DEA, and JSOC.[4] The team consists of team leader and support gunner "Nomad", vehicle and assault specialist "Midas", hacker and tactical engineer "Holt", and sniper "Weaver". The Ghosts enter Bolivia with their CIA contact, Karen Bowman, who was also a close friend to Sandoval. They meet Pac Katari, leader of the Kataris 26, the only resistance against Santa Blanca. Pac Katari requests they rescue Amaru, whose ideologies inspired the Kataris 26, from Santa Blanca. The Ghosts are then free to tackle the cartel in any way and order they see fit.
Even the twist is part of a "danged government not doing enough to murder these folks and not letting the good patriots get their murder on enough" thing.

Definitely when I was playing The Division I had the strong feeling that, A: it sure was fascist, and B: That that really never occurred to the folks making it.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

One of my favorite characters in Anthem is the intelligence agent you work with on two of the games instances. He's just so casually insulting to you in the missions, and if you visit him in the bar he'll occasionally comment on things you the player did but in a catty way. Its delicious.
Sexy delicious.
I loved that conversation tree, and then later when max gets involved its even funnier.
Though I think my favorite tree was Marl and Gunther, my only worry there of course was if that portrayal was offensive to German people, so I sent a video of it to Haps so I could justify my fear.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Tcheldor I got Aramintha last night. Her with Kiris has shown to be just great boss farming.
Nice!
Aramintha can do some good stuff. Unhealable and Attack+ are solid options to have in a good dps.
For a solid team you want to have someone who can cause defense down, someone who can cause attack up/crit up, someone who can take hits, and someone to keep them alive.
Sometimes these roles can be filled by the same people (e.g. the high end meta is to make very tanky healers).
I used your dragoon lady last night to get past a story mode boss that was causing me problems. She one shot it lol.
Luna does damage. She's the current hotness, but I don't really like her that much. If you didn't realize, you can also set and use supporters of different classes. When choosing a friend just tap the icons near the top of the supporter page to check the warriors/knights/etc. available.

A good way to make the uncomfortable backdrop of a Tom Clancy game slightly more palatable is to make sure you are never, under any circumstance, playing a cool looking white guy
It's best to play either a plucky single mom Division agent who has just been activated, or maybe a plucky single grandma Division agent who has just been activated

Also there is fine print that they could release dlc during the season pass period that is not in the pass
...Isn’t that literally the whole reason to get a season pass? Like so you get all of the dlc released for a period of time. Otherwise you’d just buy you wanted which is one or two things usually.
At 92 dollars for a dlc pass for DoA it should just give you a subscription to whatever the japanese porn equivalent is of brazzers. Like come on 92 dollars?

Well this is horrifying. But definitely confirms my bias that everyone online is a huge liar, even me.

I only finished about 3/4 of it but I thought Farcry 3 made your character look like a dick who had dissociated from the reality of trying to save your friends and gotten in way over your head.
I remember your handler in the first area seemed like an important guy you should listen to at first, and then seemed pathetic after the last quest he gives.
Basically giving you a "you fuckin did it guy! You killed a bunch of random dudes. Don't you feel special" vibe.

Jeez Lightsaber construction, seems like this is the only one press didnt get photos of
There are several styles you can chose to build: Peace and Justice, which includes designs you’d see on Jedi from the Republic era; Power and Control, which includes more Dark Side styles; Elements and Nature, which features more raw, natural materials in the hilt, like a Rancor tooth of sacred wood; and Protection and Defense, which is a more ancient and archaic version of the weapon (think Star Wars goes medieval.) “Some have little engravings on them that we can’t read,” says Cody Hampton, a senior merchandiser.
The colors of the lightsabers run from Sith red, to Jedi blue and green, and Mace Windu purple. It all depends on the type of kyber crystal you purchase to power your sword, and each colorful gem has readable tech inside that can also be removed and added to a holocron cube, to hear lessons from long-gone heroes and villains.
Bina’s Creature Stall
Remember, everything in Galaxy’s Edge is in-character, so you may not be buying a stuffed porg doll in this shop — you’re buying a pet.
The baby tauntaun squawks and coos when you pet it; the miniature tentacle-beast rathtars shudders savagely; the worrt frog lashes out its tongue, and the pufferpig growls sweetly. Larger, animatronic versions of these creatures will populate some of the cages and aquariums around the shop – but those aren’t for sale.
Toydarian Toyshop
Star Wars loves puns, so of course this plaything stall is overseen by Zabaka, one of the winged, blue creatures similar to Watto from The Phantom Menace.
Again, this isn’t Earth, it’s a galaxy far, far away, so they wouldn’t be selling our action figures. The toys here are more like the kind of handmade stormtrooper young Jyn Erso used to play with, or the X-wing pilot doll that Rey grew up idolizing.
I cannot wait fir Jenny Nicholson's video on the park where she has $3500 in merch to show off

That's probably what the last DoA cost. There was so much DLC, they had a more complete edition follow the Ultimate Edition.

SBNation on youtube does this 'deep rewinds' where they zoom in on a given pitch that was really important and then tell you what led to it before playing it out. I watched the yankees lose on the final pitch in 2001 world series and as much as it hurt, I enjoyed reliving the series that I remember very little (because they had won so much to that point in my lifetime, and I had dvds of those seasons that covered all the storylines, but they lost in 2001 so it was a diamondbacks dvd which wouldn't have talked much about the yankees so I didn't get it)... good stuff.

I may have been misremembering because I did not pay a ton of attention to the intro of wildlands — I was under the impression based on the first mission that the Ghost dudes had been requested to assist by Bolivia and that’s why the guy in the comms room hooks you up with the local resistance, not that the US initiated it. I’d have to go watch the intro again.
Killing resistance guys or civilians or enemies who surrender will give you a game over if you do it willfully and excessively unlike the vast majority of games I’ve ever played.
I guess my broad takeaway from these games is that they operate like every game I’ve ever played, which is to say I get to unilaterally use violence on people and generally no external constraints really apply to me.
Tom Clancy games sort of half assedly grapple with this more or less by series whereas the looting and imperialism of western fantasy goes largely unreflected by developers as far as I can tell: genocide goblins, take their gold religious statue, pawn it. Games like GTA are too overtly ethically bankrupt to really even grapple with in depth even as bad parody.
I would rather do a combat simulation for fun that gestures towards the present day for material just because it seems more .. concrete? To me than something where I swing a sword like a baseball bat and cast fireballs or shoot ray guns. The addition of things like “reestablish infrastructure” is a huge plus to me as opposed to the “become king” premier of many games.
Also this is purely me but the muddle of Clancy politics in vidya just annoys me less than the “woke” gestures like people whipping their dicks out for Wolfenstein whose Nazi enemies felt like a really meaningless gesture to me in the era of irl Nazis or games like Farcry that adamantly refuse to say anything at all after playing cute about maybe fighting some right wing militia that ends up being totally neutered as a statement when the game drops

In one the us government like, betrayed you?
In the next one you’re on a 747 and I think you’re working for the government again? Or maybe you’re just the antiterrorist x-men, I honestly can’t remember the premise that well
I just got out of a job interview at a big classy-ass firm and the interviewer was like, "love your energy blah blah blah but you gotta wait till I finish my sentence to answer... I know you're actively listening and want to jump in and you have great answers and ideas but it's something people notice"
We joked around a bit after and then I realized I was interrupting at the end for every single sentence of the post-interview jokey period
