was that a continuation of bubblegum crisis? was it bad in comparison to crisis?
Crisis was the first proper anime I ever watched way back in '89 - It blew my little mind back then and I have... emotions for that cartoon.
The issue is that Crisis was supposed to go longer but cut short due to a falling out between Artmic (animation studio) and Youmix (production studio). Also there were contract issues with the music involving Kinuko Oomori (the VA who played Priss) and her label, Toshiba EMI. After the dust cleared, Crash was an attempt to glue the scraps back together and Youmex used another animation studio to do an "accelerated" ending. They got sued by Artmic and everything imploded.
Bubblegum Crisis 2040 was a reboot... It's fine. Everything is fine... just...fine...
2040 is garbage. Crash isn't great like 2032, but damn sure better than 2040.
I was heavy into tape trading back in the day, I could recognize all the characters in Scramble Wars when it came out.

Either Whippy's gonna post saying "So and so, make the next thread" or Tube's gonna post "You should all be ashamed of yourselves. And you're also all banned." Leaving room for interpretation makes things exciting!

nah I’ve decided that culture built on uncertainty and fear are Bullshit, Actually and unambiguously said no punishment will come from this thread unless it gets the weird kind of horny. It’s 2019 and the purge 24/7 out there, I wanted to talk about anime and how I just think it’s neat

Thanks for this thread Whippy. I’ve watched a whole bunch of stuff that I wouldn’t have known about at all if not for various recommendations in this thread.
The streaming services do a real shit job of recommending stuff from their archives, and major anime news websites or youtubers seem pretty dreadful, so it’s nice to be able to get opinions from folks around here who I know have at least a little bit of a similar approach to stuff as me.

Sorry I was just making a joke. I'm about 50-50 with judging the mood of the thread, so my bad. Did you know that phrase in Japanese is 空気が読めない lit: Can't read the atmosphere? Speaking of translation, who'd have thunk that driving for 12+ hours would take it out of you so much.
I'm working on that new Weathering With You video now, but I gotta get back on the road in an hour. I'll finish the full translation with after I get home late tonight, which will be fun because I can show my little sister who's also studying Japanese my techniques and make a fun lesson of it. The general gist of it is the first part shows off Shinkai's body of work and the similarity in themes between them: the beauty of the world, specific life-altering moments in time, and the desire to find that important person to you. The line it ends with is 美しい眺めだった。"What a beautiful view it was."
Now on to the Weathering With You parts. It starts with the same "This is the story of the secret of the world that only we knew." But then by passing under that Torii gate with "strong and instinctive desires" what happens to Hinaちゃん seems like something out of a dream, but it's not. Then we see Hodakaくん lamenting that he needs to live frugally, but he still doesn't want to go back home. Hina befriends him, and shows him her power; "It's gonna be clear skies from now on." The older guy, Suga, gives Hodaka a job working at this occult news magazine. Then that shady government guy is looking for information on Hina, and there's a lot of Japanese that I need to sit down and parse through, but I think they're talking about what does Hodaka really want (i.e. what's his reasons for becoming a run-away and moving to Tokyo), and then we get the same plea from the previous videos.
Unfortunately that's all I have time for now, but I'll do the full translation soon. Normally with most media I know I'm going to go see regardless I'd go full black out, but I'm actually really glad to do this, because there's no way I'll understand what's going on when I see this in Japanese theaters without some prep-work.
Todoroki and Midoriya and Iida are all cool but I think Mori underestimated how much I would also like Tokoyami. I am very much enjoying bird boy’s power and general aesthetic.
Well that is going to be a bit of a wait after the first 3 episodes. Poor @Asthariel
I'd rather they delay the episodes a bit than overwork the animators and/or rush shoddily-animated scenes out to meet a deadline.
This is actually an advantage that streaming-exclusive anime productions have - they aren't bound by the television airing schedule wherein they paid for X number of airings in a row and no you can't have any more than that because they've already sold the next year's worth of that timeslot after your allotment.

I thought it was just season 2 that was hulu exclusive. I know I watched the first episode of season 1 on Netflix.

I think it's a sign of how good the community is here now that we can have an anime thread and not turn it into 1) gross pervy bullshit and 2) obliquely talking about how maaaybe *wink wink* you can find this anime on certain websites *wink wink*
Or maybe we're just desperate to talk about japanese cartoons and once we become complacent the real garbage will start. But I doubt it!

But when it’s good it’s real good
We’re almost to the Todoroki v. Midoriya fight in MHA’s sports festival arc and I can’t wait for @Janson to see that
