I really fell off the wagon shortly after Rajang arrived on PC. Been caught up in too many other games but hopefully I'll get back to things to try out Safi and all the other new monsters when I return.
I have one more question before I grab this thing on PC. I was very, very far along on xbox one. Is it possible to speed up my way through the base world stuff, be it with increased drop rates or whatever, if most of what I want to do is the new stuff?
The Guardian Armor set and Defender weapon trees are designed to help you breeze through the game to reach Iceborne content.

There's also the option of using someone else's save, and then using an editor to change the name of the character, and using the free character change voucher to give it the look you want. If you really want one, I have my save that is near end-game gear for the base game IIRC, I haven't bought Iceborne for PC.

Yeah. @Knight_ Seriously you've got a bunch of ways to just go hog-wild on catching up, and well, frankly? I fully recommend cheating to catch up etc - as long as you're not shitting on anyone elses fun (or destroying your own fun), go hog wild.

For those with less time on their hands (like me), I've enjoyed the improved decoration drops mod that balances things out so you're not getting garbage decorations all the time.
I blame the industry at large for instilling me with this. But all the talk of mods and cheats and stuff for this game makes me nervous, despite the fact that this is otherwise entirely a co-op/single player game, and it literally doesn't matter. "They're hacking the game and getting an unfair advantage... oh wait why should I even care, even if they join my game then my hunt goes faster anyways.".
The game very much feels like every other persistent game out there, so I keep thinking all this stuff is going to result in a ban. But it doesn't, because it doesn't matter. And shockingly, Capcom apparently realizes that it doesn't matter. I feel like most other publishers would drop ban hammers otherwise, for actions that again mean absolutely nothing to nobody. Other than my slight annoyance that you just got the decoration I had to slog for, I couldn't give a shit otherwise.
"The sausage of Green Earth explodes with flavor like the cannon of culinary delight."

Well...the bolded irks me. I'm trying to get better at learning the timing and behavior of the monsters. If somebody who's cheated joins me and makes the fight trivial, that's going to be negatively affecting my experience.
It can be a co-op game, but those who co-op with me can still ruin my experience with the game.
EDIT - basically, all this just cements in me my desire to play with people I know well enough to say "Knock that shit off when playing with me" if they're using mods to make things easier for them. Or, at the very least, if they're just using damage readouts on the monsters, to just not tell me the info they're getting.

My rule of thumb on cheaty stuff is i never do anything that should have an notable effect on ingame play. I'll sometimes cheat in resources or decos because i simply dont want to run around in cricles grinding out resource points, or hoping that a specific 4 slot deco combo drops to complete a build, but otherwise, i'm all about hte legit play. People using hacked weapons, excess skills, stuff that one shots monsters - all of that would fuck me right off. Half the appeal of monster hunter is the actual challenge of the fight.
I've never noticed any cheating issue at all when SOSing either way on PC. I'm sure that monster nukes or what have you exist, but I imagine the worst you'll encounter is people with monster HP bars on their screen, which you'll never know about.

Until they start saying things like "350 left on the tail!" or they'll just rattle off the monster health and/or % remaining as the fight goes on. Thankfully, the times that's happened, the person has been receptive to me asking them to not share the info.

got my ass handed to me multiple times on PC vs furious Rajang
then i realized that they upped the cap for armor upgrades, which burned a hole in my pockets
One more thing to farm after safi is done
I run a health bar and dps meter and I've seen 3 or 4 people doing 1k+ damage per hit before. More power to them in solo play but I'm not sure why they'd do it multi.
Yeah, I generally agree with the kind of bummer on the laissez faire attitude towards modding in advantages on PC.
The only thing I have modded are the texture files for broken parts to be red and bloody, to better differentiate them from the weakened effect from the clutch claw.
Otherwise I am perfectly content to farm The Name is Lavasioth ceaselessly. Pretty much it's classic Japanese ARPG ala PSO, just gotta grind it out and RNG plays a big part.
Honestly, this thing looks significantly slow and annoying to take out without all the fire support. Between the times it decides to spam the ice nova for a minute straight so I can't get any damage in, the tail spin that comes out of nowhere in half a second and flings you away, and etcetera, I'm not looking forward to the next bit where I'm supposed to chase it and take it out solo.

If they're a Greatsworder, that's entirely practical and possible..ish. TCS usually hits for over 1k for me as long as i line it up right. Though if i'm doing a full combo, there should be a chain of weak hits into a big meaty one

Yeah, i'm not a fan of seeing the health bars or % - I personally feel that there's an art to knowing these things off the ingame info, and working it out.
For instance! if the monster flinches once when you hit a body part, the next flinch usually results in the break! (As long as the flinch comes from hitting the same body part - Monsters have unique flinch status bars for each hit zone)
I haven't used any mods yet, mainly because I am historically averse to them (and I didn't know how to install it anyways). The deco drop improvement sounds reasonable, though, but I haven't done it yet.
Separately, though, just trying to grind Guiding Lands to unlock the frost area in it.

How many monsters are there, without counting Zorah, Behemoth and Leshens, in total (including variations), with Vanilla and Iceborne together?
I still haven't finished Iceborne so i can't really check from my game. I counted 63 off a wiki... is this accurate? That seems pretty high!

Depending on weapon and how long a monster's sleep animation is, it is entirely possible to be locked into an attack animation by the time you notice the sleep proc.
Which is not to say that there aren't jerks who just w+m1 regardless.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Counting varitations, 66 by my count (this is counting subspecies and variations as their own thing). Not sure why you'd discount Zorah, he's a canon monster! 67 with him.
It's reasonbly high, as these things go, but not the highest that monhun has been. I belive Generations Ultimate (otherwise known as XX) wins that crown - a quick google indicates it has a staggering 93 large monsters.
Which, honestly, i would not be surprised if World 2: Electric Boogaloo (World made such megabux there is garunteed ot be a follow up using the same/simialr base engine) castches up with or exceeds. Monster hunter games tend to aggreate monsters.
I'm not actually sure how many large monsters there are across all games - it'd be interesting to find out (though i'd discount MonHun Online and Frontier from this count)
The ridiculous thing about GU's count is that the game doesn't have traditional subspecies (other than special variants) to pad out its numbers, just about 20 Deviants.

I love that hte offical reason they took Great Jaggi out was to let him rest.
Because he'd been THAT much of a punching bag. Poor guy.
I once killed something in tri, and in the 60 seconds that i had left before end of mission, killed the Great Jaggi that ran into the area from full health. Another time i killed a great jaggi without letting it move - just stunlocked to dead.

Also I don't count Zorah because he's too big to fit on-screen.
I'm basically drawing little GBC Sprites of all the MHW Monsters (save for Zorah because it's too dang big, as well as Leshens and Behemoth because they're not really Monsters from Monster Hunter.)
Last night, while helping a buddy through the Iceborne story, I had a moment I didn't even think of could happen....happen. We were hunting a Tigrex for him and I had just grappled on to his head. I got the wrong side and thus clawed him to go the wrong direction AWAY from the wall....but it allowed me to see the Odogaron coming up the ramp towards us.
Not wanting to get in between the two, I fired off my slinger burst into the Tigrex head. Tigrex surged forward in pain and collided with the Odogaron. The game not only treated this collision as being as bad as being fired into a wall, but it treated the Odogaron as if IT had also just collided with a wall. Both monsters went down.
It was awesome.

Nice, I did not know that!
i had a monster bounce off a vespoid once
It's also possible to get a three-for - One monster can knock down two others.
On a different note, i'm very happy with my current set.
Brahcydium Helmet, Gloves, Safi chest/wait/boots
Dragonvein Awakening
Brachydios Will (2)
Attack boost +7
Agitator +7
Evade Window +5
Health Boost +3
Crit Boost +3
Weakness Exploit +3
Focus +3
Coalesence +1
Blight Res +1 (an accident of gear)
Crit Eye +1
Speed Sharpening +1
Lightbreak Blade with Health Aug 2 and Defense Aug 1.
Start off with a heft 30% affinity just for having my weapon drawn, jump to 50% the moment a monster enrages, and WEX gives me the other 50% if i'm hitting a tenderized weakpoint.
So true Raw of 376, and true status of 44. Which is happy crazy town, really!
Only real issue is the sharpness, and speed sharpening helps out there - i might actually drop a level of attack boost to get SS2. (It's a very minor loss to my effective raw and true raw, like less than 6 points of effective raw).
Plus, you know, it's tanky as fuck thanks to the truly stupid healing output you get between double health augment on a GS and Safi's Dragonvein.

You can also bonk a monster off of player shields.
Nice, I did not know that!

They need to be reassured that the Unicorn is a big jerk.
Almost the biggest of jerks.
Almost. . .
