It's time for Thanksgiving! The best holiday.
The best holiday.
In fact, Thanksgiving is so wonderful, I believe it should be held every month between October and March.
Why is Thanksgiving wonderful you may ask?
Simple!
Food. Lots and lots of glorious food. and the calories don't even count! I read that somewhere.
Turkey! Which according to one Benjamin Franklin (inventor, and hider of countless treasures) should have been the symbol of America (I am inclined to agree)
Mashed Potatoes! Bonus points for frying them in bacon grease the following morning (unless you're camping out waiting to trample your fellow man in order to get a new TV)
Peas and Pearl Onions! The superior way to serve both peas and pearl onions (be sure to slather this in the following picture)
Gravy! I like mushrooms in mine. However, the year has been poor for mushrooms due to lack of rain which I am not thankful for.
Stuffing! Yeah yeah, I know it's called dressing if it has never felt the inside of a dead bird. I'm still calling it stuffing.
Stuffed Mushrooms! Because they're delicious!
This Stuff! Not my bag of tea, but hey, you do you.
Sweet Potato Pie! or Pumpkin Pie .... as long as it's got a healthy dose of fresh whipped cream, I'm good to go.
The most Important Part of Thanksgiving! Add these to any of the dishes above. Or just eat them from the container because you're an american and no one can stop you! Not even your doctor who is obsessed with your sodium levels. Get a life guy, geez.
What are your plans for Thanksgiving this year? Aside from stuffing your face and lapsing into a food coma?
I plan to watch MST3k and take a nap!

inside me
stuff me
but then we'd have to roast you
that's how these things work
fine i'll die happy
It'll be nice for mom who doesn't get to see us three together in one place as much anymore
That is, of course, if my oldest brother doesn't decide to cancel at the last minute and fuck off somewhere else
It is the Best Thing.
Accept no substitutes.
Oh, no! The Thanksgiving thread is haunted!
Begone, spirit. I banish thee to the Halloween thread from which you sprang.
No, seriously, why you have Thanksgiving weeks after the harvest is done is beyond me. Nothing is fresh anymore!

Where I plan to eat an embarrassing amount of stuffed mushrooms
Going to be making a vegan shepard's pie, vegetarian stuffing and gravy, and biscuits as my sides, and, and if I'm feeling saucy I might go for a Dutch baby for dessert. My wife is going to make devil'd eggs and a big pot of mashed taters.

I LOVE deviled eggs
Right? They are always the first thing gone when we have get togethers.

I always make deviled eggs for family gatherings and yes they are gone almost immediately upon serving them
As I have said my brother forcefully has taken cookie dough from me and baked it
In his words you can do that when you live by yourself
If the dutch baby is early you have to say "Aw its a premie" like Linda Belcher

In other news: Oh Fuck Black Friday Is Next Week
Good. More for me. Less assholery
maybe I can coerce somebody else into being responsible for waifs and strays.
Personally, I'm a big fan of Field Roast's cranberry roast:
The flaky crust and cranberry filling are both delish. But the old standby, Tofurky, is good too:
Actually I like basically every fake prepackaged turkey brand that I've tried. You can't go too far wrong here.
It's important to note that a lot of these turkeys benefit from basting, but the cranberry roast doesn't! (It makes the crust soggy.)
One year we tried making Serious Eats's very complex "Vegetables Wellington" recipe. It didn't turn out well, but also my brother screwed up the mushrooms (you're supposed to pulse the mushrooms a few times in the processor to get them chopped, but he just left the processor run which made mushroom paste. Mushroom paste is, as it turns out, gross!)
I've also made Isa Chandra's "Sweet & Smoky Glazed Tofu Ham" several times, which is kinda weird but also pretty and delicious. Recommended!
no brine?
god this looks good though.
