Somehow this visually seems to evoke the 90's Era of the anime, but I'm not certain how. Is it the colors or something?
Also I was wondering what the boys on the railroad tracks had to do with anything, but apparently it's a reference to the first game where the player character's TV features four boys walking down railroad tracks, which is itself a reference to the Stephen King/Rob Reiner movie stand by me.
PS, are the main boy and girl in the video new characters? I've never seen them before.

Everything has a sort of fuzzy tinge around it that gives it a "recorded on VHS" feeling to me. Maybe that's it?
My favorite musical instrument is the air-raid siren.
I watched the first episode of The Saga of Tanya the Evil, and while I’ll wait until the 3rd episode to pass judgment I’ve already got a lot of complaints. Firstly nothing in the animation or choreography really struck me; it was about what I’ve come to expect from a Light Novel adaptation, and I guess it was Studio NUT’s first work? I have a feeling Tanya herself wouldn’t be impressed. I don’t think a cold open does it any favors... at least the Manga’s version is short and gives us some insight into the character and a cliffhanger, providing a hook before getting into the exposition. Which, you know, is the proper use of a cold open. But the complaint that drove me to the forums to bitch is something very specific.
Certainly bad writing is in every culture, but I find there’s a specific way that it manifests in Japanese culture that’s particularly irksome. The Japanese love to setup some key information, and then proceed to completely ignore it in the resulting action. This happens twice back-to-back in Tanya’s fight with the Observer-Hunters. First she observes that they’ve just used a massive amount of magic power, depleting their resources to a point that they would not be able to fight in 3-to-1 odds. Said squad then proceeds to open up on Tanya with limitless reserves of ammunition. Next, as they engage in aerial combat, the Observer-Hunters are daunted by Tanya’s ability to outclimb them as she rises to a significantly higher than they can. Earlier the audience is told that climbing to a higher altitude is a defensive tactic, so naturally we expect that out climbing the enemy will impart some sort of defensive advantage. The Observer-Hunters then open fire on Tanya, seemingly negating her altitude advantage by simply aiming up. Storytelling is all about setup and payoff. If you set up that our hero recognizes the enemy is low on ammo, then you need to pay it off by having that come into play. If you setup that climbing to a higher altitude is an advantage, then you have to pay it off by showing how. I find that military stories are particularly bad at this. This isn’t indicative of the whole of the series or all of Anime. Nor are the Japanese the only ones to make this particular form of bad writing. But damn if it isn’t common.
I think Game of Thrones is the exemplar of kind of forgetting about critical world logic, but I think that anime falls victim to this as Japanese stories can be super technical and detail oriented in general, like Jules Verne on methamphetamines, which increases the risk of not being able to keep up as the saga goes on

Recently watched the series again after this video from MB. Such a damn good show if you haven't seen it and it's available for free on Youtube. Both the dub and sub are top notch and it brings back so many good memories of early anime watching but with a good storyline and animation to boot.

Re:Zero felt weird today.
The witches tea party didn't feel significant. Or at least I don't feel like much was revealed. Satella gave some info but it just created more questions. Kind of figured Echidna would punish Subaru in some way. Otto continues to seem like more than he appears to be. I'm also feeling pretty confident that Roswaal is somehow Subaru.

Captain Tylor is one of two anime characters that I ever seriously considered cosplaying (the other was Vash the Stampede). I never ended up cosplaying either, though did obtain a Vash jacket.
It also weirded me out how in the English dub of Captain Tylor, the girl who looks just like Lina Inverse is actually voiced by Lina Inverse's English voice actor.

Re Zero
I fucking KNEW IT
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.
The best joke in Captain Tyler is that he spends like half the series accumulating a harem of various swooning ladies
And then in a single episode he accidentally turns them all down while he's distractedly trying to play a VR game
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

To this day, one scene I can always watch again and again and again is near the end of the series where
Tyler gets the crew back together and gets the Soyokaze out of mothball storage for decommissioning and literally busts through the launch ceremony of another battleship, knocking it from it's launch-dock in the process. Once Azalyn of the Raalgon empire hears this from Captain Dom, she goes
"PACO-PACO DID WHAT!?"
Followed by her command to make Dom bring him back before again whereupon he also breaks character and completely goes
"WHAT!?"
himself. Just perfect comedic timing and exaggerated character model animation for that scene.
Space Dandy has a very good dub that is worth giving a try.

You fucking called it! Roswaal sending assassins to the mansion to kill everyone. JFC. And so Subaru MUST choose between Rem or Emilia? Sadistic as hell.
The stuff with the witches was wild. Teaching Subaru it's okay to love himself? Series continues to require Natsuki Subaru to grow to be a better person to continue on and escape the loops. I'm still unsure if Satella is literally Emilia, possessing her, or what that exact deal is.
I really like the writer of this series.
Three month gap until next episode. It's going to be a LONG time until 2021.

Roswaal was acting super suspicious in general, and the "I had faith you would do the right thing" coupled with the fact that Subaru only succeeded through literally dying and failing repeatedly was a lot.
But having the evisceration queen say that Subaru got their earlier than she thought he would meant someone had to be feeding her information and the only person that made sense that we were aware of was Roswaal.

I'm seeing more instances of that pop up now that I'm getting further in. I think they're rare enough that they both stand out and feel weird, but are somehow balanced by how 'serious' it is otherwise. Like you expect it to be happening every five seconds, so when it's only once every episode or two, it's extra strange.
I think the experience is improved by watching the dub, since you get to actually hear them say all the ridiculous stuff. And can more easily appreciate the delivery.

So that Lupin movie is the best a CGI anime has ever looked, right? I'm very curious to know if there's anything else that has looked this good.
I've heard that the trailer has about 10x higher quality art and animation than the rest of the movie... (this is only what I've heard though)
Nah,t he quality is crazy high throughout.
yeah, that was someone's early twitter take that got blown out of proportion (that they later walked back as a "well, in my opinion....."
Yeah i'm watching it currently (hooray, dvd relases) and the quality of it's animation is RIDICLOUS. Not just the animation, the lkighting, texutring everything is fucking fanastic - and they're def playing to the strengths of CG.
It really helps they've used a hyper-realism look for the characters too - all extended jawlines etc. It's fantastic.
i have not kept up with anime at all the past few months but i just finished deca-dence and that was a fun little show, i’d like more shows like that please

speculation:
if Roswaal is future (or alt-dimension future?) Subaru, then maybe Satella is future Emilia. It would be somewhat consistent with the insane crazy-eye Emilia we saw a couple of episodes ago.
edit: Roswall seems to understand Echidna awfully well. maybe he's Future Subaru where Subaru accepts Echidna's offer?
On a lighter note:
Subaru with dat animal magnetism. I think this makes it a love-pentagon now?

But yeah it's a mediocre light novel adaptation, another one for the pile.

I have one realization after this cour:
she loves him after all, after seeing what she is like during those episodes, I find it hard to belive that she would willingly torture him
The dub is amazing.
