The witches tea party didn't feel significant. Or at least I don't feel like much was revealed. Satella gave some info but it just created more questions. Kind of figured Echidna would punish Subaru in some way. Otto continues to seem like more than he appears to be. I'm also feeling pretty confident that Roswaal is somehow Subaru.
speculation:
if Roswaal is future (or alt-dimension future?) Subaru, then maybe Satella is future Emilia. It would be somewhat consistent with the insane crazy-eye Emilia we saw a couple of episodes ago.
edit: Roswall seems to understand Echidna awfully well. maybe he's Future Subaru where Subaru accepts Echidna's offer?
On a lighter note:
Subaru with dat animal magnetism. I think this makes it a love-pentagon now?
Roswaal can't be future Subaru since he doesn't know the mechanics of Return By Death though, can he?
Satella being future Emilia makes a lot of sense, we already know she screws with time. Possible that Satella is also past-Emilia though given her amnesia. Worst case? Satella/Emilia is a stable time-loop. Like a grand-scale Return by Death?

Roswaal isn't future Subaru because he isn't aware how Subaru is using Return by Death (or authority of Envy or whatever), specifically that Subaru has to die in order to do a loop over again.
Emilia isn't future Satella because Satella killed Emilia when Subaru was about to explain his return by death ability.
The real question is if Satella is locked up with all the other witches, how was she able to go on a rampage in that one loop? And how is she able to keep tabs on everything that happens with Subaru? Is she split into multiple parts? Are there more than one Satellas out there? Can she possess people a la Petelgeuse? What's the deal!
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

That's a good point on Satella that just raises even more questions. If they were the same person, it would neatly explain Satella's statements about Subaru saving her and asking Subaru to kill her though. There's definitely a connection between them.
guhhhh I've been traveling all day and keeping an eye on twitter, reactions to the new higurashi premiere seem pretty positive but it's still gonna be several hours before i can watch it

It’s a light novel you’re thinkin too hard. RE: Zero theory craftin
Emilia has died in like, 13 million timelines. If we’re taking Emelia=Satella than it’s not too weird that her witch form can kill her past self. Witches are super not playing by “normal” time travel rules.
Hell all the witches are DEAD but they can have a tea party with knowledge of current events thanks to Greed essentially sidestepping death.
As far as the “Satella” rampage, it was Emilia after failing the trial. We’re even showed The form directly BEFORE she goes full witch with the creepy eyes broken state Subaru runs into after escaping the rabbits the second time, even explicitly running down her broken thought process, “I give up, but Subaru loves me and that’s the only thing that matters now.”
I mean the nail in the coffin is Subaru literally tells “Satella” that he’s going to save her, and it revealing that she looks “exactly like Emilia.” Even the “Satella” during the witches party EXPLICITLY KNOWS HIM AND WHAT HE’S LIKE.
As far as Subaru is concerned, he thinks Satella is Emilia too.
Since Witches can get to a point of bypassing time and space, the Emilia who cast Return by Death on Subaru could easily be from a future failed timeline, or she could even be the Emilia from the very first timeline.
I still think there WAS a Satella, and Emilia was that person, and something happened before Puck met her again that caused her to essentially wipe her own mind(Puck finds her again in that frozen whatever the hell that was after all.)
But the “Satella” that grabbed Subaru is 100% his Emilia, at least in my, and Subaru’s mind.
Oh, also! Re:Zero and how a certain character gets somewhere
”Satella” isn’t trapped with them. Satella broke in, Echidna remarks on how she was able to get in despite all the wards she put up to protect that place.
Oh, and I might as well give a reason for a certain scene.
This is just speculation, but if we’re operating on Satella=Emilia, she would totally kill any version of herself to spare her watching Subaru die in front of her if given the choice. Plus isn’t it weird Return by Death’s curse was able to even KILL her specifically?

Burn the Witch anime premiered tonight!
Tons of premieres this weekend. Check the live chart for fall 2020 anime, as the season is upon us.
Shout out to TONIKAWA: OVER THE MOON FOR YOU, a fluffy rom com by Hayate the Combat Butler's mangaka about a married couple that looks suspiciously like Hayate and Hinagiku, but are completely different characters.
so I've been watching etc etc Teen Romantic Comedy etc etc and man, the title is really deceptive. that being said, it is really good, even tho it takes a long run up before you start feeling good about the characters

Regarding the last thing...
If Satella has knowledge of all of Subaru's attempts (past, future, alt-dimension?), maybe she knows that revealing Return by Death always results in a failure state.
Satella says she loves Subaru, so it makes sense that she'd want to protect him. I'd have to go back and watch it again to be sure, but IIRC the time the curse kills Emilia is the first/only time Subaru decides that he is definitely going to spill the beans, even if it kills him. Satella isn't willing to go through with killing him herself, but is willing to kill Emilia/herself to set up a Return.

The thing about Castle of Cagliostro is that it is not representative of a typical Lupin adventure.

I would agree if not for Rubinsky, I hate that guy.
(But he does play the game well, gotta give him that.)
What new stuff will folks be watching this season?
I checked out the season opener of new Higurashi. So far it was... like exactly the same? Based on the marketing, is there anything in particular they've been hyping? Much better animation quality or something? Honestly, out of the Deen shows I've seen, Higurashi was EASILY the most competent one, so I dunno if that's a huge selling point.

I'm wondering why they redid Higurashi too. Didn't the original adaptation cover both the Question and Answer arcs, unlike Umineko? (Though Umineko's source material is arguably a mess too, since Ryukishi07's collaborator passed in between Question and Answer.)

Between the three seasons of (Old? if we're calling it that) Higurashi, I'd be surprised if they missed much. I don't begrudge anyone seeing this for the first time, I think it's an interesting story, but I do wish they'd only spend money on remakes to shows that were fundamentally flawed or went off course in some way. For something that would be good, I'd say do the last manga arc of Kenshin... but the author's real life actions ruined my ability to be enthusiastic about wanting that. Oh... Claymore Sisterhood, there's a workable idea.

So far I've watched the first ep of Higurashi, which was a weird clash of menacing and childhood antics (I never saw the original and know nothing about it). I'll give it a few eps.
Don't know where else to put this, but I got really into Siivagunner's high-quality rips, and the amount of references to Love Live! on the channel led me to sitting down and watching that series, and I really liked it! Are there any recommendations for stuff in a similar vein (mostly the fun breezy slice of life stuff).

K-On if you haven't seen it is extremely pleasant and slice of life.
Jujutsu Kaisen might be worth checking out for some folks.
If Black Clover is the successor to half the aspects of Bleach, Jujutsu Kaisen is the successor to the other half (namely the style). The manga is just really fucking busy to the point where it feels like there's....a third to a half of a chapter in between each chapter which isn't shown, which makes following week-to-week a pain in the ass. I'm mildly intrigued by the anime if only because it should be easier to keep track of things.

as someone who specifically passed on the anime the first time around and fell in love with the VN years later, the studio deen adaptation leaves a lot to be desired
besides the animation quality there were big swathes either glossed over or cut entirely, i'm not expecting the new anime to cover everything but i do hope it does its characters justice. ryukishi reportedly has more direct involvement this time around so I'm hopeful
also, the 2020 version
may possibly not be a straight remake? it's still too early to tell but there is some completely new stuff in there, if they do wind up going the Eva Rebuild route i would be... curious about that, i mean i did enjoy FF7 a lot
