My main playlist in YouTube music won't play inside android auto anymore and I can't figure out why.

It says this can't be played in the background?

That doesn't make sense. Is it trying to force me to use their stupid auto radio things instead of my playlists? Because those work but my playlists don't.

I'm not sure if it's a difference between my old phone and my new, or just between my old music app (Samsung Music) and PowerAmp, but I can't browse my library from the car's touchscreen. Still works if I start playback from my phone, but it's kind of annoying. Especially since it no longer auto resumes when I turn the car on.
Not Android Auto, just whatever basic phone sync thing is built into the car

I don't have a touch screen in my car. I have a phone mount that fits in my CD slot and when my phone connects to my car via b toot it turns on Android auto for me

From there I normally I would just yell hey Google play X playlist but lately it just comes up with an error saying it can't be played from the background

    It sucks.

If I tell it individual songs and let it auto play more (yuck) or click the screen to play one it works but not it it's a playlist I made.

Poweramp has a separate setting for resuming music on bluetooth device connecting afaik. You may also need to change what the default actions for moving forward/back on tracks probably (at least I had to do that to make it properly go up and down tracks rather than skip around, which it does by default or at least used to, I can't find the exact settings in the app atm). Don't think it's ever supported browsing library through android auto though.

Your car just thinks your playlist is rad and you should stop and listen, not just have it play as background.

well, i thank apple for this affirmation that the notch is nothing more than a stupid marketing ploy to get people to talk about their products

remember how we were all told we were stupid for not understanding the genius of the shitty keyboard, or the shitty touchscreen f-key row...

i really hope my current macbook pro can outlive my career because i really dont want to have to buy a new one

the notch on phones is annoying and stupid but tolerable

I’ve never once heard anyone asking for thinner bezels on a recent model macbook, so this seems silly and pointless.

That said, it is in an area of the screen that is literally almost always blank, and if you use a dark menu bar like a sane person, you’ll never really notice it.

Then why bother putting screen there? Why engineer some bullshit that cuts a piece of the screen out instead of just making a whole piece? They still don't want a touchscreen for whatever stupid reason, but the touch bar up top.

    It's just a maddening decision.

1: they want the screen to extend to the edge of the laptop
2: they want a front facing camera

These are not compatible unless they cut the screen for the camera.

I think a lead engineer at Apple had a bad breakup with the heir to the Post-its fortune, and all this bezel erasure has been a long drawn-out revenge scheme.

Not sure what you’re asking for here. It WAS screen because screens are historically rectangles, but on MacOS, the center chunk of the top half inch of the screen is unused 99% of the time, so putting a camera notch there is better than putting a camera in the lower bezel.

Now, the desire to have a near-bezel-free display on a laptop is another issue all together, and I don’t know why Apple thinks people are dying for THAT, but the fact that they think people are is what necessitated this notch.

you've already got a bezel, just make it slightly taller and put the camera in there

My initial thought was that it would be annoying during movies and tv, but if these are still 16:10 displays, it’ll also be invisible there.

Which leaves games. Where Apple is famously smart and successful.

MacBook Pro displays have always been 16:10, since the jump from 4:3, if I’m not mistaken. At least through the current 16” models.

    Speaking of Screens....

What would be a good ultrawide 1440p for gaming? I'll be running on an AMD Graphics card for a while, so Freesync would be required.

Amazon has this Dell on sale for $270, no idea if it's a good deal or not though, I'm way out of the monitor game.

Introduce our new preprint—Delphi: Towards Machine Ethics and Norms

✨Delphi is a commonsense moral model with a robust performance of language-based moral reasoning on complicated everyday situations.

    FIVE SECONDS LATER:

via 🔒, this is a shocking piece of AI research that furthers the (false) notion that we can or should give AI the responsibility to make ethical judgements. It’s not even a question of this system being bad or unfinished - there’s no possible “working” version of this. https://t.co/Fc1VY0bogw

    14" - 3024-by-1964
    16" - 3456-by-2234

If you subtract 74 pxiels from the vertical height of both of those, you get a perfect 16:10 ratio. It's just extra space for the menu bar basically.

Well, first of all, Delphi was a source of prophesies.

Second of all, Delphi was a mouthpiece for Apollo, and you can't expect solid morals from that guy or his family.

Yeah that top notch could be useful, if when in full screen you hover into that black space and the apple dock or something of the users choice comes into play.

Here's what I want to know about the notch: What happens when I try to run the cursor into it? Does it bounce off, just go behind it, or teleports to the other side instantly?

  • minor incidentminor incident expert in a dying field ---Registered User, Transition Team regular
I feel like from a usability standpoint the worst option would be bouncing off. Sliding the cursor from the top left to the top right would be impossible. Teleporting to the other side would mess with my head too. I hope it’s just treated like empty space.

Your cursor explodes like the ship in Asteroids and then you go buy a new mouse.

Delphi reminds me of that one AI someone made to "resolve" the trolley problem once and for all.

It worked, mainly by always picking the cat to survive. How many cats vs humans? Didn't matter, one cat outweighed infinite humans. A mere presence of a cat doomed everyone else before the AI even chose.

Notches aside, the new macbook pros really seem to have hit every checklist item people have wanted for the last few years.

The M1 benchmarks are already very good, so I'm excited to see how these do.

I just wish the 14" was maybe 1600-1800 rather than 2000 to start with, but honestly the value might be there for these machines. Plus the Air is there at the 1k price point and more machine than the average person needs.

you've gotta imagine that someone is working day and night to make a screen that can have a camera behind it, right? like, a screen that is also a camera but also able to project a screen, think of all the notches we could save

I think Delphi has done the best it could. You couldnt get two people to totally agree on morals. And AI, basing its morality on us, is going to end up taking on the majority's prejudices.
