Scott Carson: Manchester City’s 37-year-old third choice goalkeeper is on the bench tonight and should City prevail, will win his second Champions League medal. He won his first as an unused Liverpool substitute in the same stadium 18 years ago.
If I was Scott Carson I’d be absolutely insufferable about this
Last night was a prime example of an official needing to toss a quicker yellow for goonery early on, did not do that, lost control completely, then tossed random reds around so it'd feel fair.
Mexico and fans completely lost composure last night after goal 2.

McKennie got surrounded by I think 6 Mexico field players plus the bench, shoved one while having his shirt ripped, and caught a red. Peak CONCACAF.
i'm seeing a lot of "he's throwing away his career" which seems harsh. He's a good player but he probably wasn't going to join a real/barca/city/liverpool type team and he'll make more in the next two years than he'd make for the rest of his career in a mid-table PL team
sucks that the saudi league is built on slave labour and murder but from a professional point of view, i can't blame him for securing that bag
Usually players head to those leagues at the end of their career, rather than at their prime, as Neves is. Also I totally get the money motivation in a career where you retire in your thirties but I am unconvinced by someone already earning a couple of million a year saying they needed a bigger paycheck for their bills.

You have to do a little searching to find out who was doing the homophobic chants. Turns out that Mexico has a bit of history there.
Shut up, Mr. Burton! You were not brought upon this world to get it!

Seems rather odd because this was a club that got spanked at the start of the season and was widely predicted to go straight back down.
And yet Gary Neil kept them up with games to spare. In fact, many were saying he should have gotten a mention with regards to manager of the season for keeping Bournemouth up.
Very interested to know who they have lined up to replace him.
Well there was all sorts of noise that he might be going to PSG, but rumours were that how he conducted himself after that final with Roma (and probably how Roma played) led to PSG thinking twice.
Sort of backed up by Luis Enrique now looking to get the job.
Also, looks like Bournemouth have got Andoni Iraola, who they tried to get last season when they sacked Parker.

the irish manager has been doing... quite poorly and there's a lot of talk around sacking him and this talk always brings out how either unrealistic or just plain stupid some football fans are
people saying we should go for the likes of
de zerbi - why would he leave a brighton team he just got into europe
graham potter - wildly unaffordable and enjoying a nice paid vacation on boehly's dime
john herdman - he's got a great job with canada and has some genuinely great players to work with at the moment
chris houghton - just took a job with a much better team who actually have a chance of qualifying for tournaments
brendan rodgers - literally just took the celtic job
anthony barry - is assistant manager at BAYERN MUNICH, why in the sweet fuck would he give that up for this poisoned chalice
grande samuel - just got paid more for 5 games at leeds than the FAI could pay him annually
roy keane - hasn't worked as a manager in over a decade
robbie keane - has managed a grand total of three (3) games in the indian premier league
just an absolute barrage of "here's a name i've heard before, why not"
the only name that seems realistic is lee carsley who seems to be doing a good job with the england u21s but you'd think someone in that role would have higher aspirations
they're utterly unaffordable but i'd love if the fai looked a bit further afield and brought in someone like quique sanchez flores or marcelo gallardo instead of just invariably trying to get steve bruce over

We'll just go for Big Sam yet... but to be fair, the lad has 100% record at international level.

The incident occurred in the 40th minute. Yousuf Abdurisag made a comment to Boxall which angered the All Whites and led to a melee after Qatar won a free-kick.
All Whites captain Joe Bell remonstrated with referee Manuel Schuttengruber and shook his head when no action was taken.
apparently the same thing happened in the ireland u21 match
glad to see both ireland and nz taking a stand here

The Football Association of Ireland have entered a war of words with the Kuwait football association following an accusation of racism against a Kuwaiti player during an Under-21 friendly in Austria on Monday.
The match was abandoned on 60 minutes with the Republic of Ireland leading 3-0, when an Irish substitute and his team-mates heard the alleged comment.
Branding the FAI statement as “false,” the Kuwaiti FA strenuously deny that their player made a racist remark while Jarrah Al-Ateeqi, the director of the Kuwait Olympic football team, made a counteraccusation of “excessive roughness and tension between the players” that he claims led to the game being called off to “protect the players.”
hmmmm in a game with no yellow cards, i'm not sure who to believe here
"It is a lot more chilled," Bale told BT Sport. "If you lose at Real Madrid, it is like the world has ended. You are crucified. You feel down. You go home and you're not happy.
"They accept losing a bit more [in MLS]. There is no consequence. You can't get relegated over there. When you lose a game you go on to the next one. They accept losing a lot better over there.
"They know how to lose but they celebrate every win like you have won the championship. He will definitely enjoy it."
I guess the Haiti/Qatar Gold Cup game is in a 72,000 seat stadium because the next game in two hours is Mexico/Honduras. But man, it looks about like only 30 people bothered to show up.

I would have been mad at Liverpool winning the quadruple last year but that’s because they’re cunts, not because they’re built on slave labour
here I just feel a bit hollow and out of love with the game

Zero service, but drew the first red on a good bit of tracking back. Honestly felt like a good introduction to the crap that happens over here.
You don’t say.
