The Warrens? Yeah, that could be fun. I'm down with that. What's everyone else think?

And I still can't post on their forums, but here's a couple of the Blackburrow trains from tonight I managed to capture in action.

Our group was the first to make it to Blackburrow, and this was about the point we realized it wasn't going to be as smooth sailing as it had been.
    bbtrain2iz5.jpg

I died taking this one, but it was well worth. At this point it was just my group and some other random monk in the lower levels. Totally not our fuck up.
    bbtrain1oh9.jpg

How do you make a CR more interesting? Clearly watching another massive train from as far away as possible.

Warrens is ok but it's kind of a deathtrap due to tons of roamers.

The standard newbie dungeons these days are Kurn's Tower and Paludal Caverns. Both have excessively large exp modifiers and easy mobs so you level fast. PC is a Luclin zone, though.

I felt rich with my 165 plat from farming staves in the tutorial, but going to the Bazaar was a humbling experience. They didn't even have my old standby for newbie gear, the Orc Fang Earring :(

Is it bad for roamers? The only time I've been through there was on my 60 sk to go to the mountains for cat skin farming. Honestly though, if we've got the newbie armor we'll be pretty overpowered, especially with the group we've got. It might not be too much to handle. I don't know about the other classes, but the warrior sword is a 10/29 ratio which was unheard of until 40+. At level 10 we'll be pulling groups of yellows with ease.

And personally I'd rather avoid PC. For me this isn't about leveling as fast as possible which is what that area is good for. It was genuinely fun to group in Blackburrow at level 4 tonight with those guys. Equipped with nothing more than rusty swords and eventually some 2 ac gnoll chain boots we held up pretty well and leveled at a decent rate. Our group will level much, much quicker with just the newbie gear, not even taking into consideration anything we may purchase.

The Warrens, Befallen, Unrest, Kurn's Tower, Upper Guk, Najena. We've got lots of options.

And no Orc Fang Earrings? What did you end up buying, anything? Is everything basically new and inflated past what we can afford, or what's the deal?

I didn't get anything. Best piece I could have afforded was a 10ac bracer with some stats for 100 plat. Even Electrum Fire Wedding Rings (+35hp) were over 250 plat, way more than I remember them being. Very little newbie gear was available based on the searches I did. Thinking I might just raise smithing and make some banded, or something.

Warrens has an "interesting" design choice in that mobs roam all over, and you'll get lowbie mobs in the upper level ends of the zone. The last time I tried grouping there as a newbie it was a rather frustrating experience, but we didn't have an optimal group, either. Finding a good spot out of the train tracks is a must.

I'm pretty sure that was our train, and it was due to some odd pathing that drove one gnoll to turn around (before we started wailing on him) and draw like 10 others onto us. Fortunately they were after our bard (turns out he's the FoH guy who organized the whole thing) and didn't get anyone else in our group. :D

Also, I can't post on their forums either and I'd like to to be able to let them know how much fun I had. Oh well, I'm sure they'll eventually let me.

I remember selling forest loops for 300p .... I somehow doubt they'd still sell for that hehe

Man, I tried farming the hell out of those over in the Frontier Mountains, but I only ended up with 2 (I wanted 2 for my druid and the rest for selling). However, I had a lot of fun camping those giants and made some good friends. Ahhh, good times.

Ouch, that sucks. I wonder how bad it would be to raise smithing up to banded level these days. What is that, 135?

What about low level farmed items? Do spiderling silks sell for something ridiculous like, 10pp each?

@Xaquin - Since we've got more than 1 group interested (I wasn't sure how many would want to do this with me) we might as well start up a guild. I would say everyone who is interested show up tomorrow night. We'll take whoever shows up an break off into groups as even as possible (if you're able to get newbie armor by then, groups of 3 even will be pretty damn safe). And then like the FoH guys are doing, we'll just set level caps after each session. If you miss one you can try to catch up whenever you can, however you can (So I won't care if you buy twink gear to catch up, but don't go twinking during group play as we'll move quickly enough as it is). And I'll update the OP with this now.

Making banded shouldn't be too tough.

I haven't checked but spider/spiderling silks are probably a good low level moneymaker.

Setting up a guild would be a good idea if we get 10 people to join up. That would let us access a guild hall which has some nice benefits.

I saw your planned game time and thought I should mention that all of Sony's games are going to be down for 12-24 hours (yes, possibly the whole day!) tomorrow (Tues, Sept 25), so you may need to meet at a different time.

I admire what you're doing - it was lots of fun back in the day!

If it runs long, we'll all be around online anyway so we can just update the post. Let's plan on it anyway (yes, I know how awful those time estimates always are, but I shall remain optimistic!) If it doesn't work, do we want to push one night to Wednesday, or push a week and give everyone more time to knock out newbie quests and be ready to go the first time?

Edit - err, wait, Wednesdays aren't ideal for me. I can possibly shuffle things around, but otherwise Tuesday / Thursdays are my free weeknights. (This Thursday being the exception as it's FoH night #2)

i may join up with you guys for the second FoH night, what's the cap at?

and did it seem like you guys were lacking any certain class?

I'm hoping we don't have to push it back to us starting next Tuesday, but if this maintenance runs too long then I guess we'll have to do that

The level cap for the FoH group is 8. You can run the tutorial to catch up really quickly, but you'll be asked to unequip any gear you acquired through it. No skull charm, no gloom cloth armor, nothing. To give you an idea of where we are gear wise (for a tank anyway) I think I may be one of the better geared tanks and I'm wearing Ruined Gnoll chain on my chest, head, hands, legs, and feet and I'm swinging a 2 handed rusty sword or a 1 handed rusty battle axe. I may see if I can afford to buy a shield after I get my spells though (I earned like, 4 plat, woo!). We were gearing from rusty weapon drops and gnoll chain / leather. I don't know that any cloth even dropped so most of our casters are pretty naked.

Class wise I'm not sure what we they're lacking really. Maybe healers? We had about 3 groups or so running around and seemed to be doing well. I think I was the only shadowknight (at least at first) - oh, they were talking about a surprising lack of rogues so that might not be a bad choice either. Avoid the mage though as it's horribly overpowered in the early game and that pretty heavily skews group success when melees are running around with rusty weapons.

And the next FoH meeting is this Thursday at 7 pm est in Crushbone. I'll be late to that so I'll have to catch up a bit. I'm almost considering soloing to 9 or 10 maybe wednesday night so I'll be on par with everyone else by time I can log in. Assuming I have time anyway.

wow, 8...alright..at least it's not for a few days so i have time to get up there..haha....i've never played a rogue before so i may do that....especially because i may or may not switch my SK into our other group later on to see how well we do with him tanking, so it'd be nice if i wasn't an SK in both groups

edit: i just checked the site and they said "I don't have accurate numbers for what we had, but good choices (based on last night) would be: monk, rogue, enchanter, beastlord, paladin, shadowknight, ranger, wizard and druid. I think all of those either had 0 or 1 classes represented there."

so hmmm....maybe i'll make a monk, always wanted to try that out

the warrens was just an idea, I was all about seeing all the dungeans and doing all the stuff even if i was out of the proper level range. I think most of the armor there is cold iron or something like that, some bamboo type armor etc. nothing better or worse then whats roling in blackburrow or crushbone.

Yeah, I'm at level 7 so I think I may solo some tonight to 8 or 9 and work on my skill progression so I won't fizzle as much when trying to heal. :)

Also, to give an example of what I have, I'm a cleric and I have 4 pieces of ruined gnoll leather, a parrying dagger I found on a skeleton (lol shield), and a rusty mace. Whoo me!

Enh....I don't want to spook anyone....but I don't think I'm able to make tonight either. I spoke with my manager yesterday and I'll be moving into a position that requires a minimum of 6 day 58 hour weeks from here until some time in November. I couldn't track down my supervisor last night, but I may be starting all of this today. For the east coasters that means I'm out until almost midnight your time, although I can try to shift my schedule an hour so I work 8am-7pm pst instead of 9am-8pm. There's no guarantees something won't come up though that would require me to stay later anyway.

That basically leaves saturday nights and sundays (until we go on 7 day weeks) for me, but I understand that's football, family, significant other, party time for a lot of people including myself, so I don't know how well that'd work.

I'm interested in trying to work something out, but I have a hunch I'm sidelined for a couple months. Worst case you guys can get started and I can keep the OP updated. Just pm me with plans and your current levels if that's the case.

Ugh, I'll let you guys know more as I find out. I'm sorry about the timing of all of this.

Ouch, losing people left and right.

Maybe we should just stick to the FoH thing. Personally I disagree with trying to recreate original EQ, but I can roll with it. If we have enough people to split off on our own maybe we can do that later if interest keeps up.

Might try an enchanter since that was one of the under-represented classes. Surprised bard wasn't on that list.

Enchanters are surprisingly powerful in the early levels. They get their second pet at level 2, which is odd considering the first task of the tutorial gets you to level 2. Pet owns those newbie mobs.
