Sarah Palin: She could have been your freaking VP

DarkCrawlerDarkCrawler Registered User regular
edited November 2008 in Debate and/or Discourse
Now that the election is over, some (if it is even possible) disturbing things about Sarah Palin are coming out.

For example, she didn't know that Africa was a continent. Yeah, that is right. There are more there.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWZHTJsR4Bc

Among other things, she also didn't know what countries make up North America and NAFTA...or that South Africa was a country.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtxDs3Rk_vE

There are apparently reports that she was a complete bitch as well, reducing campaign staff into tears after doing horribly in interviews (the Couric one as well).

I figure we should have some post-election thread where we all can express our happiness for the fact that this woman did not become the Vice President of the United States.

Asked Wednesday whether she still believed that Mr. Stevens should resign, Ms. Palin was circumspect, saying only that the people of Alaska "just spoke" on the issue at the ballot box and that "they want him as their senator." She said Mr. Stevens should decide "what happens next." (Mr. Stevens could still be forced to step down, and Ms. Palin is widely viewed as a potential candidate for his seat if he does.)
She is so much of a maverick she can't tell a convicted person to go to resign.

I can't actually believe she thought Africa was a country. Everyone goes to elementary school. Notice that the guy doesn't attribute any source to the comment--I'm guessing some staffer who hated her just pretended to let that slip now that the campaign is over and the rumors are flying.

Do we know where she went to school? I'm not asking in a "what don't we know about Sarah Palin" sense, but in a "if she went to a religious school, Africa isn't mentioned by name in the bible and AK appears to have lax education standards" sense.

I can easily see her being the worst kind of American, so convinced they are right about everything that they don't bother to learn anything.

    Actually worst kind of human

Her being a bitch, forgone conclusion imho

Also, I bet that Levi guy is relived, they can't still want to shotgun marry them surely?

I also love how O'Reilly is trying to defend her. "Yeah, she was a total retarded fuckstick...BUT WE COULD HAVE TAUGHT HER NOT TO BE!"

And she lived in Wasilla, so I think she went to school here. The Africa part is hard to believe though...but seeing from the rest of her performance, the rest of the stuff isn't.

But seriously, she was some sort of a beauty queen. We all know that even when they have gotten through elementary school, their geography knowledge isn't the strongest.

I also wonder if Sarah Palin can name all the fifty states...

Lots of people think Africa is just a country and that Kenya is a town or a state or whatever. That's why people refer to starving people being in Africa rather than any specific country where famine is a problem..

But those people shouldn't be VP.

Are you saying it's okay for a VP candidate to not know that Africa is a continent, so long as she's a hockey/soccer mom?

That we shouldn't be surprised by the fact that she's a vapid blowhard with no knowledge of other countries, given that she self-identified as a member of a demographic that's a bunch of vapid blowhards with no knowledge of other countries.

"Sarah Palin is functionally retarded, and should not have been VP!"

"Sarah Palin couldn't have been quite that dumb, but still should not have been VP!"

His fits the former. He's basically defending the reports that she was functionally retarded, by saying that he's met functionally retarded hockey/soccer-moms before. He did not, anywhere in that post, imply that she should be VP.

Oh okay, I see what he's saying now. I was confused by the bolded part. I took it the opposite way.

Again, it's not like t here's an official vetting process and especially in smaller, local elections (Alaska has less people than many/most major cities) it's not like the vetting by the voting public is all that intense. This is just one risk you take in a democratic system.

I don't buy that as an excuse. You can't just shrug and say "Welp, democracy at work!" when a systemic breakdown of basic governance like what's happened in Alaska comes along. If the vetting process for their gubernatorial candidates is that shoddy, then there is something basically wrong with politics in that state. You can throw up your hands and say that "Alaskans are getting the governance they deserve!", but at some point you have to recognize that it bears little resemblance to the Platonic ideal of a democracy.

Functionally-retarded is part of the soccer/hockey-mom archetype. As is fucking people over for your own purposes or convenience. And being an absolute prick to everyone who doesn't hold a high enough social position to warrant sucking up to. Just not in public, of course, because what would people say? But yeah, they will totally flip out at people for "making them look stupid" when in fact their stupidity is what makes them look stupid.

People in Alaska are just batshit retarded. They're only 600,000 strong and they live in fucking nowhere, so nobody gives a shit about them. They clearly have absolutely zero ethics.

    Case in point:
Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin has returned to her home state of Alaska, where she was greeted by dozens of supporters encouraging her to run for president in four years.

The crowd chanted "2012! 2012!" as Palin disembarked her airplane at the Anchorage airport. Asked by reporters if she might run for president, Palin said, "We'll see what happens then."
