I've ad blocked the thing, which doesn't solve my only real complaint about it...which is the pop up.
Someone said script block? Would that make it stop? How the hell do I even do that?
I really don't mind looking at it or having it there, but when it pops up all the time it makes things tough to read... especially when it doesn't go away all that quickly.
i don't see how anyone could possibly be annoyed by this
it takes up literally no additional space
The feature is great. The placement is pretty terrible. It blocks links when you mouse over it, being more annoying than it has to be.
Maybe if it was directly underneath the paging widget? There isn't really anything over on that side of the page to get blocked by the pop-up (only the "hide Quick Reply" button) unless it gets bigger somehow.

The only links it blocks are the "Previous Thread" (partially) and "Next Thread" buttons above the quick reply. Unless you have it scrolled up enough to mouse over over the post. I think people just need to not orient their mouse movement on the middle of the screen.

I find it always pops up above the button, rather than below, which blocks the bottom post that's displayed. As for orienting your mouse movement away from the middle of the screen, if you use panning the cursor will always snap to the middle of the screen, which is why I find it so awkward.
No, I'm calling on my experience with layout design to create an opinion. That putting a mouseover popup in a location people frequently move the mouse past to get to a navigation feature is poor design.
And I am posting it on the internet, so it can be discussed. But I suppose measuring my mood could be entertaining too.

I agree, having it centered is not only a terrible location for people who keep their pointers midscreen, but it is aesthetically out of place currently. It's a white box just hanging out in space saying "Sup." It would be fair better served either below the post reply button or under the page summary on the right side.
That being said, I've all ready adblocked the garish little bugger.
Yeah, Tube it is in a pretty annoying place. I normally hit it when I've scrolled down to the bottom of a thread and then want to use the bread crumbs to get back to the forum index. Not sure exactly where it'd be better placed though. You need it somewhere obvious because it is, presumably, a feature you want people to use and be aware of, but at the same time you don't want it somewhere that is an inconvenience on every single page.
If it didn't pop up it would be much less of an issue. Is that a required feature? A more sensible position and function might be to simply have the whole box positioned to the right, underneath the page numbers, rather than a small banner that pops-up into the full box. It would make the distance between the last post and the Quick Reply box slightly larger but I think the extra distance would be negligible. Maybe it could be reformatted into three columns rather than two so it takes up less vertical space?
I mean, adblock is the obvious solution, but what about people who want to use it but don't want it interfering with their browsing on every single page? Presumably they are the target market for such a device?
How about on the right side of the page, still under the page numbers, but on the same lines as the breadcrumbs and previous/next thread links? Or just above the Forum Jump box? Of course, that's a bit out of the way and hard to notice.
To me, the obvious place to put it would be under Thread Tools, right next to E-mail this Page, but it really wouldn't fit in.

The site provides no option to change it from an onmouseover to an onclick. I would be willing to use some creativity to override its default behavior, though.
The chunk of javascript code that I place on the page to make the button appear must create an object in the DOM with appropriate onmouseover/onmouseout events. We should be able to fire some javascript after that which finds this DOM object, and swaps the mouseover binding for an onclick binding.
If you want to wait for me to get around to it, I do intend to look at the code and use firebug to figure out the javascript code I need to add to the page.
If you don't want to wait for me to get around to it, you can do it yourself and post the code here.

I should apologize here. I made a stupid mistake and confused this widget with some other code and then skipped right past the part where I have direct control over the mouseover attributes, and believed that I needed to write javascript code to modify their javascript injected code.
Props to bowen for setting me straight.

For anyone interested, here's a sampling of what has been saved/shared so far. Sorry about the "...", that is how the software reports them to me and I'm not gonna go look up all the full titles.

So it's not often, but every now and again the box pops up on a page. It stops once I navigate out and go back, but is there any particular reason for it to do that?

Shouldn't be. It's all Javascript based. Try clearing your cache and see what happens.

And I've found another recording studio that might be OK.

I use middle click panning, so I was repeatedly inadvertently mousing over it, which made it pop up.
That said, it was simple enough just to block it.

Suggesting people relearn how to move their mouse to get around a design flaw is just silly.

Technically all we need to get rid of is the onmousover which opens up the mini-quickreference addthis.
Couldn't you just change it to:
For clicking and bringing up the mini menu:
For clicking bringing up the full menu:
I don't do Javascripting much so I could be way the fuck off in my assumptions but I think that should work.
Stuck over the reply
Only from the mouseover, but I'm not sure if changing it to "click" would fix it? Arguably, I don't need to see my own quick reply.
I did. Twice, no less.
I think this means they don't care.
