So, not sure how certain this is to be true, but it might be:
Well, what do you know. On the very day Sony denied a redesigned PS3 was in the pipeline, images have surfaced on a Chinese gaming messageboard purporting to be leaked factory images of just that: A new PS3 "Slim" that appears well into production. Much more after the break.
If US retail boxes are already being printed and assembled, we have to imagine this new, rebranded "PS3" -- no sign of Spider-Man font anywhere -- is coming very soon, perhaps post-E3.
Will there be an accompanying price drop? Or is this simply a very, very well done fake? We'll know soon enough. For now, peep the vaguely illicit-looking cell phone cam images and speculate.

If for some reason it turns out to be true (haha), if that's all they can manage after the PSone and PS2 Slim then I despair for Sony's future console designs

It's part of the same initiative as the PSP Go! to move to a completely digital setup.
Notice the 120 gigs of storage. You need that for all your downloaded games and digital content, all integrated with Home.
if you're being funny it's going over my head. You can already get whatever storage you want for your PS3.
But Sony aren't overcharging you for them.
