I live in New Mexico, it's not that bad. Everyone who likes to talk shit about how awful it is usually grew up in the burbs anyway and have no idea what they are talking about.
I definitely don't live in the shitty part of town (I am surrounded by Hispanic Catholics, it's pretty tame), but spending 6+ hours huddled under a desk 4 or 5 times a school year is pretty shitty.
Ok, now I gotta know which high school you go to, because this reeks of over-exaggeration.
Santa Fe High School. So far, we've had 3 "lockdowns", one due to a bomb, two due to...gang fights, I think been turned away from school once because of a bomb. Yes, I exaggerated: I said 4 or 5, we've actually had 3. Every single such event is "lights off, blinds down, sit on the floor, go to the bathroom in the corner in a bucket".
Bomb threats in high school is par for the course, and in Santa Fe you are probably ten times more likely to die of aids due to surprise rape than gang violence.
I went to University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Not a great school by any standard (unless you're taking business or hotel admin), but it got the job done well enough and it's damn cheap (especially if you qualify for the Millennium Scholarship)

I am finishing my Junior year in high school and I just got my act's back, I got a 31. I got a 6/12 on the writing because I spent way too much time just thinking about other shit and wasting time and only wrote like 3 paragraphs. And I got a 27 on math, so I'm taking it again in the fall. Really it's for no other reason than to 1-up myself, because I plan on going to an art school anyway.

Yeah, if I went east coast it would be Emerson, NYU or Bard, and Bard kinda creeped me out when I toured there, Emerson is two buildings on the Boston Commons and NYU is in New York, which I don't know if a San-Diego-born Yokel like me could handle.

I'm so sick of how "rad" (as you kids are saying) it is to hate on anything that doesn't railroad you into a career until retirement. If you are in a pre-prop school, doing something you love, more power to ya, I envy the fuck out of you. However, there's a lot of anti-liberal arts sentiment going around, which strikes me as silly.
