I have seriously managed to completely avoid any exposure to it til now, it has not been easy. I have been waiting to beat it til I did some stuff IRL first and got some MP done. So.

there's no indication the Citadel was ever actually attacked - just closed up and carried off. We're given no sign that Reaper ground forces have stormed the Citadel

I can't think of a good reason for the reapers to not have been making as many corpses as possible on the citadel, because every person they kill is a new troop

So many things there make sense but were not shown at all in the game.
Maybe that's why BioWare didn't realize the end sucked so hard, because they knew about the things that got cut and so could piece together the nonsense in a way people who came to it cold could never do.
The fact that taky spending ten minutes explaining things provides more coherent narrative closure than a fucking ten hour third act ever did is pretty damning.
That said, there's an awful lot of hand waving. Just assume everyone's OK. Yeah, I'll get right on that, thanks.

Exactly. If everyone is actually not dead, then that big explosion was just for effect. It was the shallowest kind of spectacle, with zero emotional weight. An excuse to show off some nice particle effects. That makes it worse.
It's absolutely a retcon. I mean, aside from Mac Walters literally saying 'nah, everyone's dead' on twitter like a day after launch, there's no way they intended that to be the case.
The sad part is I'm sure that at some point the intention was to have some kind of cutscene or something to acknowledge you Citadel Defenestration's Force or whatever
But then they ran out of time and had to ship the game before the end of he fiscal year or whatever and instead of trying they just went "yeah all those people died offscreen or in a big explosion at the end"
I'll always wonder what ME3 would have been like if they had gotten another year

Friend of mine loves Mass Effect but only has a PS3 and a poor Internet connection
He had to play through ME2 the first time with he shitty choices because he couldn't download the free motion comic thing, and he never meets Conrad in either game
So I've been pretty much buying only Spectre packs since the beginning, but I was thinking about it and think I've been making a mistake and should be going for Recruit packs instead. The big reason being weapon mods - almost every recruit pack has one, they're all Common. While Spectre packs...also have just one. So I could get 1 from Spectre or 12 from Recruit. You also get a ton more expendables that way.
I mean, at some point I'll have to go back to level up my rare weapons, but I think I'm just getting tired of saving up for some shitty 'rare' shotgun or 100k XP for a class I already have at 20. Anyone else been buying cheap?

spent a ton on recruit packs, and now i'm very happy that i did.
got me enough consumables to last me a while and also got me the Avenger X and Mantis X.

my primary problem with it wasn't so much that it was a badly written SHAMALYAN (which it remains as such)
but that it basically had poured concrete on a franchise i really liked!
Patrick's answers assuage me on that somewhat, and makes me look forward to their "Extended Cut" DLC that will explain that shit
