Vow, not sure if I'm misunderstanding you, but the Inauguration Station is up on Steam (and PS3 on Aug 13th). If it's gold-exclusive that's just about the 360. Also we should be user theme besties.
Incredibly late to the party, but I just finished SR3's story and am taken aback at how lazy and awful BOTH end routes are gameplay wise and how especially bad the story is for one path. I felt like they got bored or ran up against deadline there.
There's also a giant issue with combat in that they give you regenerating health in a game where you pretty much always exposed. Yeah, I know there's trick to regen your health, but it just makes shit a burden until you roid up Boss with damage immunities. It's a fun game, but only because it stays easy if you stay ahead of the difficulty curve by doing lots of side stuff to rank up. There's no challenge to the game that doesn't feel like poor or outright lazy design. Good example
Final mission prior to the Killbane choice where Luchadore and Stag trucks are literally spawning a few feet in front of you and just doing hard left turns to block as much road as possible. To be clear: I'm not even referring to the road blocks. All the Bonnie Tyler music in the world cannot save the last portion of that mission.
I'm hoping that, with the engine and city in place, they can really tighten up the gameplay because goddamn the gunplay does feel fun when it's not feeling cheesy as hell.
The Either/Or ending didn't make any sense. "Hey, we've got a whole gang right here. Let's split up!"
I'm sure the financial troubles at THQ had a lot to do with what was wrong with SR3.

That's not cheating! It's a sandbox game and you're rewarded for being creative.
We've discussed strategies before, here are a few things that worked for me.
Trafficking: Bring a bear. It is super effective.
Snatch: Screw the bear; bring a fully upgraded infuego. Don't slaughter all the enemies and don't blow up their vehicles. It's much easier if you don't ramp up the notoriety by killing a ton of gangsters.
Escort: Use city takeover to claim the airport zone and never do hard escort again. Fuck the hard escort.
Heli Assault: Never had a problem with it myself, but have seen reports of people who did. With the Kinzie heli assault you want to avoid using missiles, they are pretty worthless. With Pierce's heli assault you want to make use of missiles on everything while they are still distant from Pierce's car (these are tracking missiles). A miss with a missile will cause it to track to wherever your crosshairs are, so don't train your crosshairs over Pierce.
Do all the vehicle thefts available before STAG. Do the ones that become available after STAG before the bridges go up. Do all the assassinations early, before you take over the city.
Grab a Ho and He'll Show: Hos only appear in this area at night. If it's day time you have to save and reload your game or enter and exit activities until it changes to night. Day/night is random on loading, not timed. You cannot just wait for day to end, it never will.
The Big Time, Baby: Can be problematic if not done prior to city takeover. The fastest way to do this is to go to Espina and kill a bunch of hos. Duck into an owned store to drop police notoriety. Then go pick a fight with Morningstar. The fastest way to do this is to go to a Gang Op (fist icon on the map) and defeat it. This pushes you to 3 stars immediately, and will have more Morningstar en route. At 4 stars your notoriety is self-sustaining. Head back to Espina and take a pot shot at Morningstar tailing you to maintain notoriety. As soon as you hit Espina the target should pop.
Echo Target Destination - Challenger: Can be as hard or as easy as you want it to be. The easiest way is to walk as far along the bridge into the Natl. Guard base as you can without triggering the notoriety. Position yourself and you can just barely aim at the target tank with the remote control gun. Drive it out of the base and along the bridge away from you. Break control. Hop up onto the tank but don't get in. Control the tank again and drive it toward the airport. eventually you'll get jostled off the tank. That's fine, keep driving it away from you because the button that breaks remote control is overriden by the omni button feature and will make you board the tank, triggering 5 star notoriety. Run back to the tank, jump up on it, and control it again. Rinse and repeat for as long as you like, up to and including remoting it all the way to the airport.
There is a serious lack of monstrosities from the character creator released yesterday. I am disappointed guys.

I started playing SR2 again last night, in anticipation of IV. It's a bitch to get working on Win7 but man, being back in Stillwater is like comin' home.
Before I knew it, it was 4 am. Oops.

Steve Jaros told our own @Idolninja a lot of the problems with SR3 are the result of THQ meddling with the game. That doesn't fix the story at all, but it seems some of the problems, such as Shaundi's lack of character growth and being stuck in the ANGRY part of the grief cycle, will be addressed with SR4. I'm wondering if some of the other shortcomings will be addressed. Killbane was intended to be a much more visible antagonist, for example, but I don't know if his VA was listed in that leaked list.
I still haven't found a satisfactory shirt or jacket to pair with the skinny jeans.
My favorite top piece in SR3 is one of the modern males-- it is basically a leather jacket and a button up shirt. It isn't in the IS. Maybe it will be in the full game.

One of the endings does have one thing going for it:
Racing to save your friends as Holding Out For A Hero blasts is pretty damn fantastic.
Also, as a PSA, the current humble indie bundle is for Deep Silver and is a very cheap way to get SR 2 + 3 along with other games. If you pay like five bucks you the full package for SR3 which is all three DLC packs and like thirty dollars worth of stupid dress-up time packs.
Does anyone have a link to the Super Mod to Make Saint's Row 2 Work?
The mission is annoying because Pierce dies real fast if you don't upgrade Homie HP, and then you have like 30 seconds to revive him (again, if you're like me and didn't invest in homie/gang upgrades). The most likely situation is that you have 15% HP remaining and Pierce dies, so you either get lucky and regen real fast or just lose because you either die reviving Pierce or he dies while you try to regen HP in an area with almost no cover. Oleg rarely goes down, so he's not much of a problem. There are ways to cheese it, like letting a Brute grab you because your health goes to full if you manage the generous quick time event. The real key is to kill a Luchadore specialist and use his grenade launcher to deal with the tanks/Brutes. The tanks are the real bastard since they do constant damage and just fucking lock onto you.
The other issue is saving Shaundi, which means a van from Stag or the Luchadores spawning in front of you every five seconds. It's cheesy, lazy, and not much fun. Honestly it's not hard, but it's tranparent about where the difficulty comes from that it sucks all enjoyment from it. Then you have the stupid "boss fight" which is throwing a Fart in a Jar and quickly killing Kia. I know SR is all about the wackiness, but it comes out of left field and makes not a lick of sense in even SR's weird world.
Compare this to chasing Killbane, which is easier (Angel does the driving so it's just a mild shooting gallery) and has a someone better end (okay, it's quick time events, but at least it makes sense). Then you get an EXTRA mission that is significantly more satisfying as an end game mission AND the story ending makes more sense. I feel legitimately pissed off because the game encourages you to save your crew but the experience from it feels like it was done during someone's lunch break. I dunno what the "canon" ending for SR3 is, but I hope it's the one where you kill Cyrus and destroy the Daedalus. Based on that ending, it would make sense for SR4 to pick up from there since Boss mentions public office.
I'm hoping that they re-jigger the way that co-op mission progress applies to your character. I played pretty much all of SR3 with a friend and had an awesome time with it, but I guess the progress we made together didn't apply to his character, only to mine? Didn't really impact me but I think it put him off playing solo. It would be nice to be able to start two characters from scratch together, and have each character's story jump to match the co-op partners.
Is SR2's story enjoyable enough on its own? I enjoyed taking over the city more than most story missions in SR3, but I don't know if I'll have enough time to really dick around in SR2 before IV is out.

I've mostly been focused on story missions with only a few activities that provided bonuses I really, really wanted in my play through and have generally enjoyed it. A difference is that taking over the city is a gateway to wrapping up each of the four story arcs though so even not dicking around will make you go through a lot of missions that are less polished. We're not talking about a 15 hour playthrough here. I'm guessing I'll be between 35-40 hours when I finish up the story missions.

You really need to play the Brotherhood and Ronin missions. Ignore everything else if you must, but play those missions.

The extra mission in the bad ending is cooler. But the good ending is canon. My advice for fighting the luchadores on foot is to make sure you're using grenades and your rocket launcher if you start to get overwhelmed. But be in a vehicle as much as possible. When you are driving and a enemy vehicle spawns in front of you, ram them and keep going. If you vehicle starts to break down, the next one that spawns in front of you get out and take that vehicle. Then keep going.
All of this is, of course, trivial at 50 when you are all but immune to damage and have unlimited ammo. But even without being 50 it should be doable. You can also set it to casual difficulty, there is no penalty at all for doing that.
I've already beat both choices in the final missions, dude. It's definitely doable but just really annoying and sucked all of the enjoyment out of the game. At least I ended the game on the superior final mission, which helped a little.
The story is leagues better in SR2, and there are a lot more story missions (and activities are their own separate thing that don't pretend to be story missions like they do in SR3).
However, Respect works entirely different in SR2. Instead of being XP to level up with like in SR3, there is no leveling up (your various perks are earned by completing different tasks) and Respect is instead a currency used to unlock the next mission. So you'll need to play around in the city some to earn respect to unlock the next mission.
Since you'll have IdolNinja's mod though, if you don't want to deal with that you can just turn on the feature he added that gives you buckets of respect for driving in the opposite lane until you have enough to do whatever you want.
from what i've seen of SR4 from the footage released, the health regen mechanic has been completely rejiggered. the more you kill, the more health you get, and salvation through slaughter is the name of the game

It's a cross between Snatch and Smoking Aces stylistically, with some Robocop for the plot. The story definitely stands on its own. And the cutscenes are all awesome.
Saints Row 2 had some disturbing shit in it. It was really good, I admit. But i prefer the more lighthearted tone of SR3.
Saints Row 2 did a better job of characterizing your enemies. The cut scenes involving Vogel interacting with various gang leaders have been a particular highlight.
Saints Row The Third did a better job of characterizing your crew. Without having played SR2 before SRTT, when Cyrus described the incident with the monster truck and Jenny I could tell it was referring to something you had done as part of SR2 based on how much of a sociopath the Boss still came across as despite the more lighthearted tone.

So the Initiation Station is exclusive to the worst platform for the game
What in the world
Especially with the new Whoah taunt in the SR4 creator, which made me laugh out loud.
I was like "what the fuck"
...that is unless I can make Deadpool the president. BACK TO THE STATION!!!
I'm just assuming, based on The Third
The Third on 360 had a really weak framerate, was relatively smooth on PS3, and was obviously best on PC
I'd expect the software to function offline, though, so I guess they're trying to sell more subscriptions or something?

Yes, that's what I mean. I'm referring to Saints Row 2 when the Boss pulls a gun to win a sword fight. :P
If you're having difficulty with the combat, odds are you've overlooked something simple to help you out.

Reason I ask is I've never had problems with that mission, but I've always been level 50 when I did it. Level 50 = invincibility.
It occurs to me I have no idea how difficult that mission actually is, because nothing is at all difficult at level 50.
