There was another note from Boy Housemate about lights being left on overnight when I came downstairs this morning. Chatted with Useless Housemate and we're fine as usual, which is fab! Discussed we'll have a chat all of us on Sunday.
Well I went downstairs a minute ago Useless Housemate has removed Boy Housemate's note and replaced it with a huge whiteboard note about not leaving notes because its immature and results in hostility and next time we should have a meeting rather than leaving notes.
This is, counter productive I think? Boy Housemate has not been able to talk to us which is why he's left notes. He's started his placement at 9am, finished at 5pm and started his bar staff job at 5:30pm and finished it at 1-2am. Thats why he's not been able to speak to us.
I am staying WELL out of this now, I am backing out before the shit truly hits the fan.
Yeah. It seems like he has a legitimate reason why he's forced to use notes. But she's getting really passive aggressive really quickly. I'd just try to stay out of the way until the next meeting.
Definitely. I will be doing exactly that, you are right!
Oh lordy, this is getting silly.
If you were feeling like a sassy interventionist you could erase UH's passive aggressive note and just replace it with a reminder about the meeting
Though is erasing a passive aggressive note more or less passive aggressive than the original note? Adding or responding to one obviously is but dry erase boards bring an element of nuance
Guys I have had those serious adult discussions with her and explained those things, I went so far as to remind her that when she agreed to live here she signed an agreement to keep the communal spaces clean and that she's not doing that.
As Psykoma says, it doesn't do anything and I have tried. Other housemates have also discussed with her. Hence the change of tactic.
See section two where she gets kicked out.
Kick her the fuck out, Liiya. Don't put up with her shit.
have you tried angry sex?
the angry sex would be so good that it would just encourage me to do the dishes even less
Right?
I mean, threaten me with bad sex and I'll be motivated to do the dishes. Or at the least promise me good sex for completing chores.
"If that sink is empty there are some orgasms in your future."
The only problem here is if you can't actually follow up on it. Then it'll only work once.
my outside water tap thing on the side of my house has a moderate leak (let's say, about a cup of water every 15 minutes)
What can I do to stop it?
I tried getting a little shutoff valve from Lowe's to add on to the end of it, but that did fuck all (not a great seal on the tap)
So I just put a hose directly on it with a sprayer attachment and that worked better, but it's still leaking slightly, and also I just have to leave a hose there forever in plain sight
what is the final ultimate truth way to stop this leak
also, my garage IR receiver range is somewhere around "only works if you are parked inside of the garage", which is not optimal
Is there a cheap fix to give me another 5-10 feet?

which part of it is leaking? can you reduce the pressure going to the spigot by partially closing a valve inside the house or something

Find the dinky antenna wire coming off of the receiver on the opener. Skin the end of the wire to bare the metal.
Get another length of wire, about a foot long, can be almost any wire you want. Skin the end of that wire to bare the metal. Twist the metal on those two wires together, and see if that helps.
All this really does is give you a longer antenna, but sometimes that's exactly what you need.
If it doesn't have a dinky antenna wire (most do) then not a whole lot you can do.

does the antenna wire carry a charge? do i need to shut the breaker off before hand?
i am not *exactly* sure which is the right wire. I have a black box bolted to the ceiling with a few wires on it, unmarked, unlabelled, guess that's the receiver?

The receiver is almost always the same as the garage-door opening motor/mechanism itself. If there's another box, I don't know what that would be.
The antenna wire itself has no charge. It would be a single-ended wire just hanging off the unit, not connected to anything else. Here's a picture I yanked off the internet (with my personal arrow added.)
However, as always, when you're screwing around with electricity, if you're not certain, don't do it. You can futz with a lots of other things, but don't take chances with electricity. If there's no obvious thin wire, don't connect up to other wires because who knows if they're carrying current.
Edit: Huh, in a short google image search, it looks like there are receivers out there now that do not have external antennas. If so, not much that can be done there

there's a shutoff valve that cuts water flow to the spigot, unfortunately it also cuts off water to the entire house
I don't think there's an interior valve for it
at least I didn't notice one
You need a shifting spanner that will fit on to the flats milled on the base of the bit that the tap handle itself sticks out of, and a new one of these:
My college apartment was in a building that had been built around WWI, or maybe the twenties, so living there was an education in fixing shit.

anyone have experience in networked home audio stuff?
i basically want to hook up a few large speakers in each room of the house that are connected to the network (preferably wirelessly) So i can play music from my computer in the office out to the living room, dining room, kitchen, etc.
Not sure where to start, anyone have any recommendations or maybe a website/forum they can point me to?

If it were me, I'd start at the Geekzone forums, probably in home theater section. They're NZ by location, so this comes with the proviso that it might be less useful to your situation, but they're still one of the best sites I've found for collating information for the DIY home handyman geek, and if don't have what need can usually point you in the direction of specialist websites that do.

I know BOSE do stuff like that, but they charge Rolls Royce prices for Volkswagen spec gear.

seems like the one company that has made a name off of wireless modular audio home systems is Sonos.
somewhat pricey, but if it does what they say it does, it would be worth it.

My parents did that in their house in Beijing. I can find out how but I am 99% sure they used a mix of wireless Bose speakers and cheaper wireless local Chinese brand speakers to dilute costs.
Can I get a third party opinion in a fight me and my roommate are having?
We got our first power bill and it is pretty substantial, we agreed on 50/50 on all bills when we moved in. She wants to pay 60/40 on it because I accidentally leave some lights on and use the AC. She is naturally cold and has a fan in her room while I do not, but when I do use the AC it is only till it is cooled off and only to around 75. I do leave lights on sometimes but not for anymore than an hour or two at max and I apologized and said I will do better. I am sticking by our 50/50 agreement as A) setting a precedent for her paying less would be bad and the difference would be 20 bucks and no way I used 20 dollars worth of lights.
You might have used 20 dollars worth of AC if she doesn't use it at all, that adds up fast. Maybe it's not completely unreasonable for her to ask you to pay more if you actually definitely use more?
We're getting our possession letter this week so we'll actually know when we're moving! Which I am hoping is mid November because that is 100x more convenient.

Our current lease ends at the end of November. So if we have a half month at the end to move everything over and clean the old place, that would be swell.
Now to decide which 70" TV I want to put in our bonus room.

She also uses AC occasionally, not as often, but more importantly she has a fan installed in her room and I have nothing. I don't think I should have to pay extra because I got the room with no fan.

Sassy as I am I think you're right, its an endless spiral of passive aggressiveness!
Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better

I meant set the girl on fire.
Whatever the word for that is.

You can replace this yourself (consult YouTube) or you can bring in a plumber.
I'd say try and do it yourself first. If you fuck it up, you probably won't damage anything.
