So the marks from issue 6: is it worth doing the quests again to get a Signet of the Kingdom for my new shiny headger? seems like a super easy way to buff my hit for starting Nightmare.
Thinis has its uses (I use it for my leech build), and Trenches is okay for tanks. But 120 hit is nothing- a single Hit glyph on your head talisman will get you 202- and that's immediately, all the time (don't need to hit something for it to begin), at 10.0 with no upgrades.
In contrast, you need to hit 20 times max before Kingdom gets you that 120 hit (for 4 seconds!), and if you're already having problems hitting stuff, well, Kingdom's not gonna proc at the rate you need.
I really need to go and do the last mission of each issue more regularly, or, you know, step foot in tokyo. it seems like all I do now is log in twice a week for the raid.

Questing is the best part of this MMO, personally. Unless it involves a train.
Another thing to keep in mind, if you're planning to DPS, is that you don't necessarily need hit rating I you're doing a force crit rotation. Forced crits can't glance, and a significant portion of your damage will come from that. The meta of 650 hit in nightmares comes less from glance damage reduction and more from being able to keep Subway Tokens and Lethality from resetting.

Maybe so, but if the only thing that's hitting is your Elemental Force'd consumer, your DPS is gonna suck. And doesn't HE punish you if you glance? Not even going to go into the whole "what if EF gets nerfed" scenario, but in that case your entire build's screwed.
@Lanrutcon : You can only upgrade glyphs that were created via Nightwatch Glyph toolkits, and the only place those drop is in Nightmare dungeons.
Once you have such a glyph in a talisman, the type of talisman determines how you upgrade it:
If it is a talisman bought via Black Bullion (currency from NM dungeons), then you need Black Bullion to purchase the glyph upgrade kits (each glyph can be upgraded four steps to 10.4).
If it is a talisman bought via Black Marks (currency from PvP), then you need Black Marks to purchase the similar glyph upgrade kits (also four steps to 10.4).
Currently, only items bought via Black Bullion can be upgraded- with a special item- one step further, to 10.5. This has been a bit of a sticking point to PvPers who clamor for a PvP method of doing the same thing (another point being that the special items you need to get to 10.5 drop from PvE encounters- specifically, the raids).

Depending on the exact build and rotation, your EF skill can account for up to 2/3 of your damage. Facility is the dungeon that punishes glancing. You're probably not going to want to go in there until you can muster up at least 650 hit anyway. The main point is that I'd focus on your hit rating for DPS after you take care of Penetration.
Hell Eternal punishes you for purging buffs from enemies.
Edit: I've also got a pistol/ele build that can keep good uptime on the hit chance (not rating) buff.
Yeah fax isn't worth doing more than once, for the costume. That computer room fight is like 10x harder than the raids. And then the last two are just so annoying
First, they need some actual challenging content, rather than just nerfing shit.
Second, they nerfed my favourite AoE deck 3 times in one update already: nerfing suppressing fire, criticality, and arterial pulse. Plus, the multihit nerf affects all AoE attacks. Now they're doing more?
I don't know of any other game where the developers seem to misunderstand their own combat system so badly. The multihit nerf and their mishandling of Elemental Force (which thankfully never made it to live), and most of their other changes since launch, all make me think that the brains behind the systems are long gone.
Most of the folks who designed the combat system don't work there anymore.

It's relaxing wandering out the countryside shooting vampires. Don't even care about endgame, just want to go explore. Kinda sad I missed this game during it's peak.

Well I don't blame you. It's not your fault that they launched a game with virtually no advertising.
Ok, I'm almost done with Transylvania. I'm primarily rifle/pistol atm, but I'm planning to swap pistol for elementalism for the Gatekeeper. That'll hopefully lead me on the road to sweet, sweet purples.
But there's some confusion regarding the rest of the content:
1. What are scenarios? when's a good time to go attempt them? Is issue 8 worth buying just for scenarios?
2. Can I augment my skills without owning issue 8? I got some augment items in a bag (a blue unattuned damage thingy), just no idea what to do with it. 3. Google is giving me conflicting answers about how to get into Tokyo. Can I just spend 1 million monies somewhere or...? I own issues 6,7 and 9 atm.
Edit: nevermind on #3, finally found a solid explanation of how to get into Tokyo.
Scenarios are a bunch of grindy BS that's not really worth it. You can do the basic level of the hotel one for free, but I wouldn't bother beyond the cert.
Luckily you can buy all the stuff for it from the AH.
A. Augments cost a ton of Pax on the AH, so I hope you like grinding anyway.
B. Latest TL notes indicate that the price for the token you need to progress from Venice to Tokyo is being reduced to 1 Aureus.
A. Augments cost a ton of Pax on the AH, so I hope you like grinding anyway.
B. Latest TL notes indicate that the price for the token you need to progress from Venice to Tokyo is being reduced to 1 Aureus.
I think 80 was way too many, but that's kind of... too much a reversal? Like, make it 20, maybe? Even doing novice solo that's only like three or four average scenarios, max.
They're aiming to smooth out the learning curve/storyline for new players. The plan is to have everyone be able to get to Kaidan, so the storyline progresses naturally. But they will still have less access than those who actually bought the issues for it.
A. Augments cost a ton of Pax on the AH, so I hope you like grinding anyway.
B. Latest TL notes indicate that the price for the token you need to progress from Venice to Tokyo is being reduced to 1 Aureus.
A. You assume I (or whoever you were responding to) play secret world for it's end game, I personally found most other mmo's to have better and easier to get into end games. And even if I did You'd have to work pretty hard to convince me pax was hard to come by.
B. I brought certification ages ago, the price of entry even if you brought the tokyo issue was utter garbage and shouldn't have been a thing at all. It was truly pointless grinding that didn't teach you anything you needed to know to do Tokyo.
Neither response was aimed at you, @EnclaveofGnomes, or at anyone in particular. It began as a response to @Spoit's comment about augments being available on the AH. And Pax isn't too hard to come by, if you like grinding anyway. Which was my point.
I, for one, appreciate how TSW goes into Nightmares, and I even like the raid, but I can't do the latter regularly because of my play times.
And I do agree with you to an extent about the Council certification. It was grindy, yes- very much so, especially if you didn't buy Issue 8 to get the other scenario maps/difficulties. But I disagree when you say it didn't teach you anything that you needed to know about Tokyo- a lot of builds meant for Tokyo came about because they were originally scenario builds.
The TL notes also indicate that a lot of the NM areas in-game (not dungeons, but the actual "zones" on the maps, such as that section of the airport in Kingsmouth) are being downgraded (their NM-ness is being removed, essentially). Many missions are also losing this, such as the fan-favorite Cost of Magic. Again, for new players.
So I finish the goddamn mission to buy the fake thing for half my goddamn hard-earned monies to get 'certified' by the useless vendor clan and then there's a mandatory mission with insta-death tripwires and stupid turrets and rocket jerks that was even more annoying than the crap I had to go for to unlock it BUT WAIT so I get thrust into the filthy japanese sewer subway filled with dead otaku and IT'S AN ESCORT MISSION so sure yes my escort not only has the AI of a potato oh no she's also fucking essential to deal with the all new mechanic no-one asked for or wanted: AEGIS which is probably a fancy acronym that some developer just looooooved AND SHE JUST STANDS THERE whenever combat is initiated resulting in me dying no less than 7 times to get through that fucking tutorial because my guns MY BLACK PHAROAH KILLING, ANGEL SLAYING, MINI-CTHULU REAPING MOTHERFUCKING GUNS can't damage John McFilthysubwayuser and his dead family. Plus the city drops my framerate by about 12 frames regardless of graphic detail. But that's probably nitpicking.
But really: devolving combat to a color matching game minigame? I know people say combat is the game's weakest aspect but it's not that bad! The AEGIS thing in no way makes it better or deeper or more fun. Who woke up one day, went to their job and said 'Shit guys, you know what would enhance this series of complex mechanical systems we use to represent violent conflict in our game? MAGIC COLOR SHIELDS!'. I'd facepalm but I like my walls the color they are.
On the flip side, Nightmare dungeons are fucking sweet and I'm packing enough purple now to casually wipe out a small Egyptian cult or two.
It's the only way they could make mobs tougher to kill for all those folks in NM-level gear or better, without creating a whole new level of gear.
Yes, it's artificial. But I prefer it over "ZOMG, it took me months to get this gear to 10.4. Now I have to get them to 10.7?!" (Which we kinda got anyway with the AEGIS systems.)
Storywise, you also have to realize that the mobs in Kaidan have had two years to evolve over the mobs that we first see in-game. I agree, it's not for everyone.
Also, that young lady is very capable in combat. Not sure if you were experiencing a bug, because in all the times I ran that mission (it's repeatable now) she has always initiated combat first, as soon as something was in range. The only thing I can suggest (if you still have issues with it) is to run it with someone.
Tokyo has some fun missions but Aegis is just garbage. It's one of those things that proves the system designers who understood the game have all left. It adds no depth to combat at all, it's just something that needs you to match colours every couple of minutes, and the addition of Aegis shields in the latest issue is similarly worthless.
And I disagree with most of what's been said about Scenarios. Yes, Augments drop too rarely. Yes, if you want certification and to fill out your Augment wheel you will have to spend far too much time in Scenarios having absolutely no fun. But this is all caused by the devs wanting Scenarios to be something you grind for X hours, creating content that is fun for Y hours, and not realising just how different those two numbers are.
I had a lot of fun starting Scenarios, because the combat is much faster and more exciting than anywhere else in the game. I had fun working out newer, better builds. When I first tried NM difficulty I couldn't kill monsters fast enough, AND they killed me too fast. Improving my build, then tuning it for just the right level of damage vs survivability, meant I could get platinum ratings on all the NM Scenarios, and going through that process of slowly mastering them was great fun, the best time I've had in TSW in a long time.
The problem is that now I've had enough, I've seen everything the current Scenarios have to offer, I've learnt all I can from them, but if I want to keep progressing I have to do so many more, and it's utterly boring. There need to be more types, in fact there needed to be more types at launch, with more added since then.
And the developers need to have a very hard look at the content they create, ask themselves "how long will this be fun?", and set the time players are expected to grind it proportionally. I am bored to death of NMs, but I need hundreds more BB. I'm bored of the Raid, but I need dozens of crits and fuses. I'm bored of Scenarios, but my Aug wheel is at about 70%, and at a rough guess I need 3 billion pax for the 200 purple and gold augs to finish it. I am so, so far past bored of the missions in Tokyo, but I only just got my weapon controllers to 1.9, gee I'm looking forward to levelling up the shields...
I disagree that scenarios prepared anyone for tokyo. The mobs don't behave the same, they aren't effected in the same way in combat...It's nothing like Tokyo.
They were closed in arena's with hordes of samey mobs. If you'd played the game up until the scenarios you'd already learned all it was supposedly teaching you. It certainly didn't mention the aegis system or that tokyo mobs would hit harder and be more durable then the ones you were fighting.
Maybe...just maybe it taught you that you might need some self healing in tokyo, but that's it and not for any reason specific to tokyo just because you needed it to win the war of attrition VS the horde.
Jesus no. Every single fucking Tokyo quest is full of insta death mini game bullshit. There's no way I'm buying episode 10 or beyond if this is the norm.
Edit: This would be the fourth parking garage I've had to do. And yup, lights go out, spooky car alarms, have to fight my way out. I'm like, surely they realize the exact same scenario has been used 4 times in the game? I'm going to call parking garages the Secret World's troll dungeons, courtesy of WoW.
I'm thinking through the Tokyo missions. There's nothing fun in the story missions. The tank guy's missions are pretty boring. The origami mission's awful. The Last Pagan is awful. The Bank Heist is awful. The Korinto Kai is awful.
I don't really remember the issue 10 missions well. There's a terrible one that's a lot like Spiral, there's some good in the middle of the story missions, then a terrible one, and it ends with something interesting that's unfortunately utter arse to actually play.

Never mention the bank heist. I actually had a shiver run up my spine when I read that.
The cult building was pretty cool, the end mission of the latest issue was good imo...not to play, your drunk the whole time but it was really thematic and all the other buzz words devs love.
I've backed out of Tokyo for now. I still have the Carpathian Fangs to finish up, plus I'd rather re-do quests there and earn my SP/AP that way. I'm not putting more points into AEGIS crap until I've worked on the augment bits.
I'm kind of interested to try group scenarios. Solo seems boring.
The vender clan in the Tokyo park don't want to sell me purple occult talismans: is that an issue 10 thing?
Yes. Just like the three issues before it, finishing the issue 9 storyline will net you a purple 10.1 finger(ring) talisman that can be upgraded like custom ones.
And I hear y'all. I'm not a fan of the grind either (I actually stopped playing for a while because everything I needed to do required a grind) but I recently found a group that does scenarios regularly and it's been fun doing it with new friends. That's what keeps me playing.
Yes, the parking lot sucks bigtime. It doesn't suck as much when you're running it with friends and watching them fall prey to- well, spoilers.
And I guess we'll have to agree to disagree regarding scenarios and preparation for Tokyo. That was my experience and I understand that not everyone will see it that way.
I suppose I'm in the minority when I say I enjoy Tokyo. Oh I don't enjoy every single aspect of it- that car park for one- but overall I'm quite happy with it.
