The baby duiker is barely eating and has become very shaky. I predict it won't last more than another day or two.

This has been a trying few days.

Applications for the job I want closed 5 days ago.

My wife ensures me that it's 100% normal for me to have not heard anything yet and it could be a few weeks before they call people for interviews. Especially because the department the job is in is notoriously disorganized. She's not able to check on the progression of it because last time she checked the system for an application of mine she got in trouble. She can't even check if there were any internal applications which would get preference.

I'm gonna wait another few days and then call the department's office manager to check if they're interviewing yet so at least I'll know to stop hoping for a call...

I know this is the way of nature, and all you can do is try your best and let what will happen happen, but it still really sucks.

I saw one of these guys in front of SCC on my way to work. Or maybe he moved south later because of the woman screaming at him on the sidewalk as my bus passed.

In humans, diarrhea usually kills via dehydration. A simple, effective treatment is oral rehydration therapy, which is basically just administering a solution of sugar + salt + water (6 teaspoons, 1/2 teaspoon, 5 cups). Could be totally useless in this case, but I guess if the duiker is already going to die, couldn't hurt.

    Today's job tally.

2nd follow-up call to a company I interviewed for. Interview was good and they said they would get back to me but never did. Time to put a lid on this one.

1st interview for another position, but wouldn't really work out. Mutual parting of the ways during the interview.

Surprise 1st interview for a really good job! Hope to hear back from this one soon.

So, I have a potential promotion to a management position (about 2-3 steps down from the head of an office depending on its size), but there's a few problems. I'd have to apply for it, but the reason It's a potential promotion is that It's unlikely anyone else wants the job because of the situation they'd be going into.

The promotion itself would involve skipping an intermediate position that would normally have to happen, but in this case only it doesn't apply. It's in an office not too far away from where I live now, but It's a huge city and I'd have to live in a neighborhood out in the boonies because of the cost of rent.

The biggest problem is pretty solid grape-vine info that this office is in probably the most challenging period of its existence, and there might be people there currently representing the dog sitting in a room on fire saying "This is fine." I have a suspicion that there might be existing distrust between various parties there that needs repair, and I would need to boost a lot of morale. Chances are that some things that need fixing might be in the hands of another person, and I have no idea if they would cooperate given that I have no idea who they would be. I would probably not have much help from inside the office.

At first I would make less money per hour because I'd go from being overtime qualified to salaried/non-union, but given the credentials it would give me if this is as bad as I think it is, it would be a big step to six figs, influence in an org that I think I can change for the better, and maybe even one day my own parking space.

I don't have any worries about being able to manage other people generally-- but it would still be my first management position and I'm very wary of the situations described to me. The chance that I'd end up jobless if I failed is near zero-- they'd just move me back to the non management position I already do well in, although that would probably shut the door to upward advancement forever.

In other words, It's a poisoned chalice but only half poisoned, extremely shiny, and I have been given small doses of it to build up my immunity.

It's not a bad problem to have by any stretch of the imagination, but I don't really know what I'm going to do.

A magician gives you a ring that, when worn, will let you see the world as it truly is.
However, the ring will never leave your finger, and you will be unable to ever describe to another living person what you see.

If you do go for it, make sure you have solid mentoring available, or at least someone you trust. I walked into a challenging management position a few years ago, and it didn't really settle until I had a solid superior who had my back. If that support is not there, there won't be anything you can do to help fix the situation, especially as you learn how to manage people.

Moving three fridges the length of heavy pickup trucks or 1.5 prius was a mistake in a tiny garage at 10 in the morning when people were arriving.

    I improvised traffic control.

If I didn't have an IT support background, my store would be down one of three regular checkstands and a full half of our self-lanes tomorrow, but nope everything works now. Seems at some point a "customer" saw an easily moved access panel to a control station and started yanking cables out, and nobody else at work would have sifted through yards of dusty cables to figure out the configuration, or realized that our serial devices will only initialize during a boot load.

So yeah I just plugged everything back in and rebooted but anyone else would have left it for a tech dispatch.

I have only heard of one lawyer ever being chosen for jury duty ever. It never happens and even suggesting that you might be one, or that you know one, is usually enough for you to get DQ'd.

Have you had to deal with any of the online apps where you have to upload your resume/cv, then they take you to a web form where you have to fill out all the info from your resume/cv? Those are the worst
