I've been meaning to pick up snow crash for forever due to constantly hearing great things about it, but never got around to it, and after hearing everyone in this thread raving about watchmen i'm sure it will be awesome too. + any kind pocky is always win. Also no, the dog/rat thing wasn't included in the package
After seeing reactions of everyone after posting the one she did for me, I thought it would be something that pretty much any decent human being would like to have. At first I didn't really have any idea what to get for Tycho when I saw his name in the PM, I knew that pretty much any game I got him he might already have. My mum has been off work a fair bit recently because of health related problems (she has ME), and had been going kind of crazy at home with nothing to do, and so doing this was something productive she could do with her time without being physically strenuous. I suggested me comissioning another painting off her for my Secret Santa, and she jumped at the idea (and it's actually a fair bit better than the one she did for me), so I bought some more paints and canvas for her, and she did a fantastic job.
International shipping was a bitch, but it was worth it, we were really worried that it might not arrive in tact, I assume it arrived fine?
My mum will be thrilled to hear that he wants to hang it in the office.

Excellent! I was paranoid it wasn't going to make it in prior to New Year's, but yay for that.
Watchmen + Snow Crash are some of the best pieces of geek lit ever, and I figured nobody can go wrong with Pocky. Glad you like 'em!

It's a shame that is such a bad photo, I took it on my camera phone.
That is actually the one my mum made for me about 6 months ago, and it's hung up in my front room above my telly at uni, right next to a painting of the Kid A artwork she did for me.
The one I sent to Tycho is a fair bit better than that one, the detail around the windmill is better.
Inside: A lot of Candy - So much good stuff and I have to constrain myself to not go binge eating. I got Twix, A huge KitKat Chunky (is that really the size they give you on your side of the ocean, holy shit that thing is huge) and Coffee Crisps, something I have never sampled before (but soon will). Last but not least, some kind of nintendo candy that I previously only knew in ghostbusters and turtles form (and have seen the last time around 17 years ago) - I am not even sure if I should just look at it or eat it.
Also, a Kratos figure in Ares Armor with the Blade of Olympus and the Blades of Athena and the ability to choke children under three years - awesome! That one will look great on my desk!

also apparently whenever barclay needed help or got stuck he actually went and talked with gemmell in person about it, so i guess they were friends and what not in real life. Pretty neat.
Oh my god, that's awesome. I'll try and find this cable because I want you to appreciate just how huge these books are. I've had about 10 books for Christmas, I think you could fit the other 8 into these two.

If you're looking for gift ideas, here's what would be awesome:
--I've been reading "Making Comics" by Scott McCloud and have been blown away. Any other volumes by him would be great, especially Reinventing Comics
--In keeping with the Comic Book theme, Planetwide Media's Comic Book Creator 2.
--Any kind of digitizing tablet would also be a boon.
--Any PS3 or PC game would be fine. I already have Rock Band, Orange Box, and Quake Wars. I'd be interested in trying out UTIII or Warhawk on the PS3, but you be the judge of what game is the best.
--Video game related artwork is always nice.
I kinda wish there was some form of punishment for deadbeat santees not posting their haul, however a ban seems harsh in that department. Maybe a public shaming.
I really enjoyed participating, the stalking and the sending and then seeing your Santee posting pics of their haul just filled me with Christmas Cheer when I wasn't really enjoying Christmas.
Weren't we throwing around the idea of a sort of community donation for people who didn't get anything? I'm sure if people pitched in a couple bucks we could give those with deadbeat santas some easily giftable items like Wii Points or something.

Yeah, intervention is pretty key. I didn't get my Santa's gift until mid-to-late January last year, but it seemed to be a Customs issue (I'm a Canuck, eh), as my Santa sent my thang but never made it my way by the deadline. A small bit of communication got it cleared up quick enough, though...situations arise, and it's good to be aware that exceptions can be made within reason, but it does require some discussion between Santa/Santee.
