Piss over our reputation overseas by putting the DfID inside the FCO, but hey here's a brightly coloured toy.
The most frustrating element to this is how many people are supportive of it. Like, of course the PM should spend this money on it. But school meals? *furious rage*
The prospect of moving to an independent, member of the EU Scotland is mightily tempting (if not many many years away).
We’ve earmarked RoI for our next, post-Brexit-fallout move (back nearer to family once the baby is older, reacquire an EU passport). But an independent, EU member Scotland would be the first choice.
The Government's list of countries from which new arrivals need to quarantine themselves includes the likes of East Germany, Southern Rhodesia, Yugoslavia, Zaire and the USSR. Just in case you didn't already think they were stuck in the past...

After Hopkins got kicked off Twitter it seems a slew of rightwing shitlords have moved to something called Parler in protest at Twitter being too leftwing or something equally horseshit. A couple of the nuttier MPs, the usual rightwing gobshites for hire, etc.
I guess sometimes the trash really does take itself out.

I feel like we've been here a couple of times before. It generally lasts until the far right realise, again, that the important part is not writing/saying things, but having people read/hear them
And the owners of the platform realise that there isn't much money in selling a circle-jerk to advertisers
Also hard to sell major advertisers on places where virulent racial, misogynistic, homo/transphobic and religious bigotry are the standard fare.
As we've seen with Tucker Carlson's advertising, big name companies don't want to be publicly associated with that shit. Not because most of them care specifically, but what it does to complaints.
Twitter was Hopkins' last major public platform that would give her a voice. With that gone, hopefully this is the beginning of the end of whatever relevance she still had.

I thought all rightwing shitlords that get kicked off Twitter always moved on to Gab. I've never even heard of Parler, and I'm pretty terminally online.

I saw a thread about how terrible it is a couple of days ago but I can't for the life of me remember where
Basically sounds like almost all lockdown restrictions are being lifted from the 4th of July. 1 metre plus for distancing, pubs, restaurants and cinemas reopening, members of two households at a time freely able to meet up.

We're still at a rolling average of 103 deaths a week, and 1204 confirmed cases per week (FT figures).

Wh... what?
That's it, I'm staying in my house until there's a vaccine
My employer keeps sending emails with contingency plans in case of a second wave which I first thought paranoid, but now...
Good thing with all this - had 0 encounters and "fun discussions" with Brexiteers since the lockdown started, thanks COVID
They've looked at the situation, decided they are happy with the risk and decided to roll the dice on getting the economy moving again.
Got to be honest, I don't have much enthusiasm for easing back into "normal" life any time soon. Definitely not going into a pub/restaurant/cinema for the foreseeable future.
Yes, I may get to eat some food I've not had to cook, or wash up afterwards but then also, I'm not exposing others to a heightened chance of.. well - death.
You'd have thought things that relate to health would be important. Much as I love going to the pub, is it really more important than keeping people's health?
I doubt that this will result in my office opening up, so I'm going to be able to watch the inevitable spike in cases with a kind of horrified detachment as all the people I know who have more opportunities to socialise open themselves up to the risk

Maybe it's because people are still paying gym subscriptions but pubs can't rely on the subscription model

Guess I'll be going out to a bunch of restaurants and pubs in a few weeks time then!
I work for a Council, and have been patrolling the shopping areas last week and this week, asking people to maintain distance, adhere to a one way walking system and talking to shops who are doing aren't managing things properly (like their queues outside). Yes, I am incredibly popular. Yes, I have heard lots of CONIV-19 conspiracies. Yes, people have come up and just tried to start arguments because I have council ID on.

Alternative theory: Johnson doesn't go to the gym, but he does go to restaurants and pubs
LOL now you gave me a mental image of Boris trying to fit in one of my yoga classes
Seriously though, aren't gyms even harder to keep disinfected and safe(ish) than pubs?
Not sorry they're still closed no matter how much I miss my gym mates...

I think the other issue is that if you're gym-ing properly you're breathing pretty heavily. Pubbing probably isn't great either with all the talking.
The Chancellor of the Exchequer is a bit hazy on what a pub actually is. Here he is tweeting about pubs, alongside a picture of him giving two thumbs up to an electrical shop.
Sturgeon has said that schools can now plan for full reopening in Summer as cases have continued to fall. The SCons have now demanded to know why councils were having to plan for socially distanced reopening.
I don't have any energy left to even say anything amusing about this.
My mum's failing health has taken a turn for the worse and so we've had more people come into our house in the last couple of days than the last not just three, but probably four or five months combined. All in full PPE, naturally, but good hell does it feel weird. But even in the circumstances the brief company feels nice.
I took a couple of hours off my duties last night to have a socially-distanced cuppa with a couple of friends who have also been shielding (so in theory super low risk), in their back garden. First time since long before lockdown. It felt like a major expedition just to do something that was so innocuous in the Before Times. Not gonna lie, it felt good.
But am I going to be hitting up a pub or cinema any time soon? Hahaha nope. Couldn't pay me enough.
You can see pubs re-opening is seen as a populist agenda item ticked off for the Tories.
"Those plebs only care about the pubs! Get 'em open, talk about nothing else and we're on to a winner, chaps!"
Remember when Cameron was making a big deal about reducing tax to make a pint of beer 1p cheaper? Also bingo too so that was female plebs covered as well!
Drink a pint of beer every single day and by the end of the year you'll have enough saved to buy one extra pint, conveniently timed for new year, if you find an incredibly cheap pub.

I can't imagine a worse place for transmission to be honest.
