It was pretty annoying to invest all your scarce upgrade points into a dude just to have him cut scene killed a minute later.
I don't disagree with that
But to me it's not so different from XCOM or similar
Or better, honestly, I'd rather lose a character to a choice I've actually made than to an enemy getting a lucky crit
ah see you're playing xcom the wrong way
the way a REAL gamer plays xcom is to
save scum constantly
Just keep reloading until you've removed every possible negative outcome from the game. Nobody is ever injured or killed, everyone always makes every shot, and you win every mission and your good guys beat their bad guys in a morally unanmbiguous fashion and the council tells you what a good boy you are and you're the hero you did it everyone loves you commander! We've unlocked even more cosmetic items for you to play dress up with your squad, your precious precious boys and girls. They're safe forever now.
You cheated not only the game, but yourself.
You didn't grow.
You didn't improve.
You took a shortcut and gained nothing.
You experienced a hollow victory.
Nothing was risked and nothing was gained.
It's sad that you don't know the difference.
To the contrary I think you'll find I gained this sweet plasma sniper rifle.
I really just need to crank the difficulty all the way down so I can plow through the terrible combat and enjoy me some sad cartoon giants. One of these days.
Wait, is this about banner saga? Pistols at dawn good sir.
(It has a unique combat system that takes getting used to but I love it.)
I love it so much! I really appreciate a system that acknowledges that the gigantic bruiser enemy may not be very effective 10 rounds and a bunch of hits into the fight. It's neat to be able to think "I know that is a very dangerous enemy, but right now it literally can't do anything to the troops it's near, so I should focus on the much less intimidating one that can actually still hurt people".
FUEL for FIENDS would be an excellent tag line for pretty much anything
Gonna start calling my jizz that

In order of likelihood
1)It's stuck in development hell forever and never comes out
2)It eventually comes out like a decade from now in some form after getting passed between studios and showrunners
2a) when it does come out the resulting decades between the original game coming out and the show whose plot is based on the first game just mean that show has a completely different tone, and the people who are writing the tv show feel like they have to capture jokes and moments from the games, but these don't translate to tv at all. The result is something that is both alienating to longtime fans and also not good TV.
3) it comes out and it's actually ok
Is there like a plausible analog of your videogame death translated to reality or does your head just explode in a green plasma fireball for no apparent reason

I assume it's a mind-over-matter thing
you check the XCOM LP and see that you got merked by a Sectoid and you're just like "not like this" and collapse.

If it's like bad teenage creepypastas you get drawn into the game world and take the place of your character
I am OK with having a barrel full of bad options but sometimes it's like fuckin Adventure Game logic when determining outcome.
"You told the girls to go find food. Now you have lost all your supplies."
Oh god, this reminds me of one of the most frustrating parts of Mechanicus, a game I really love for the most part. During missions you will come across narrative choices you have to make, but similarly often times the choices are rather divorced from what sort of outcome you get. Like, they explain it, but there's no way to figure out reasonably what the outcome would be when you select it. The only semi-consistent thing I can say is that it usually rewards you for being a huge coward. Except when it decides to say fuck you for being a coward. Thankfully it's not like... a huge issue with the game.
- more Cataclysm vibes; we. will not. be bound.
- - failed to convince the worldmind to stick around. I don't think you can, like the other 'choices', but still.
- - they did mention Adam Warlock, but nobody's picked up on that yet
- paid the fine
- - didn't seem to do anything, but at least Peter is a good galactic citizen
- creepy dream
- - you're right, past Peter, why am I running from this thing?
- oh, joy, Drax has been converted. I figured it was coming.
- "hi guys!"
- - Mantis is the best. Her unstuck-in-time vibe is perfect, and I'm annoyed that I can't place the specific reference I have in mind.

The one that came to mind for me was the character in men in black 3, but I swear there must be another one I’m thinking of
Also that world mind decision, did you get “you managed to get the worldmind to consider your words” or something like that? Cos that’s the best option, and no you can’t get it to stay no matter what

If this was said about something I wrote, and it was true, reading it would make me explode into flaming dust like a vampire in church
I kind of miss the old text + screens method and the way it allowed people to write their own narratives on top of the gameplay more easily.
Yea that LP, the San Adreas one and of course Boatmurdered are probably my favorite SSLPs ever, though there are a lot that were still really good.

Oh, is that what they use in a two-stroke engine?

Reading this made me go back and look at my XCOM LP. Losing people in that was interesting, but I guess it helps when it's forumers.
So many people who don't post any more as well. Makes me feel old.
We don't need to give Fishman any more power here
you check the XCOM LP and see that you got merked by a Sectoid and you're just like "not like this" and collapse.

what
It’s going to get crucified.

This had better be a gun that shoots trains otherwise my disappointment will be of a magnitude incomprehensible by man
I'm adding everyone who agreed with this post to a list.
You're never going to put the time into another LP so it's fine.
Listen, I got to the final mission in your Terror From the Deep Lets Play. Do your worst.

Aquatic Branch wasn't Fishman though
You're going on a special list.
